You know it's going to be a bad STF when someone destroys one of the generators too early, so you have to single handedly stop the nanite ships getting closer to the transformers by using evasive manoeuvres and eject warp plasma - and attracting all the aggro from said ships and the gate in the process.

You are about to start the attack run on the gate (at the correct time)
and someone types "oh hell got to feed the baby back in five mins"

You know it will be a bad stf run when on Cure ground your group is having trouble with the second set of transformers.

When two of your team in Khitomer run into the wall and stay there and the other two have 10 injuries each and claim to be from Germany and do not understand English...and then when you speak to them in German they suddenly forget how to type.

Nothing against German people! I love them!
No, I am not who you think I am. I am someone different. I am instead a banana.

    that's an annoyance

its bad when you pull out all stops to delay the spheres, then when you got "Boom" you pan your camera back to see the other 4 haven't touched the transformer and are focues on the two spheres that warp in

You just know it's going to be a bad STF when :

Space: dude shows up in, no lie, a damned Tuffi freighter, with all weapons filled with mines and a harpeng.

Ground: two of the people playing are equipped with the Wells phaser rifles and won't remodulate, the klingon carries TWO melee weapons (bat'leth and a tholian lightsaber) who talks in klingon, and the last person is in an evening dress speaking Italian.

Best line ever: "A tuffi? REALLY? Reported for stupid."

When you're running Infected Space, you take out the first three ships, then someone anounces "I got right."

You know it's going to be bad when one of the escorts starts puking Skittles.

I've never seen multi-energy type cannons before.

Ah, god, this made me crack up. I've seen that before, and it's never like two, it's every color you can think of.

Well, if you look in the FNN forum, we're getting an update to the forums in the near future. Bran has requested that STO specifically be placed last in the update rotation to prevent a repeat of the Great Forum Flustercluck of 2012.

IIRC, there's a "preview signature" button, too.

Sadly, I used to be one of those rainbow shooters. Then I wised up. (Sorry for the double post....)

You know it's going to be bad when somebody shows up in ISE in a runabout and does nothing*.

I have a feeling they'd only be marginally less useless if they did anything in that runabout. That's just something for the Borg to test their targeting sensors on...

I wish incompetence was a reportable offense on an elite level mission.

Did not swap bridge officers between guarding/secondary dps on gate in Khitomer and attacking Donatra to maximize your dps against a single shielded target. /report, 24 hour ban.

Ahh but no, they call me obsessive and say things like its only a game; and how many keyboards have you broken this week. Slackers

At least they have a good excuse. Once we got a person whose reason for leaving was "Not in the mood for an STF".

I am totally gonna try that.

Not in an STF, of course...

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

I've deliberately gone in with an escort using the weakest skittle setup I could, just for laughs. And I opened by saying, "Skittle boat to the rescue!". Then halfway through I'd switch to my serious setup and totally rock the rest of the run. Typically made optional too.

Sometimes it starts OK, but by the time your chasing the Schmitar 1 guy has bailed and another carrier noob has his pets bouncing off the schmitars hull just as you get his shields down.

rinse and repeat for an hour

... course in that hour we DID figure out how to kill it with a fed cruiser, raptor, and carrier.

That's when I break off combat and equip my 4 Transphasic Torpedo Launchers. It's gonna be a LONG fight with Donatra.

Assuming you use the proper tac consoles (the +cannons), a skittle setup won't actually do significantly less damage than a single energy oriented setup. You can still push a skittle escort above 7-8k DPS, maybe more; which is more than 99% of people in pugs do. Not that I would recommend it, but it might be something that's fun to troll people with. In fact... (goes off to buy skittle setup)

I didn't do that, I just used the lowest Mk of each energy type I could find in a dual cannon setup. Was fun watching my ship puke skittles everywhere when I hit scatter volley.

you know its going to be a bad stf when:

Someone on infected ground falls into the plasma pool

When the entire team (except one person) defends the kang on cure space

When either someone is kiling probes on ka and leaves to do something there not suposed to or no one gets the probes

When you have to go through the force feild sequence more than once on cure ground

When it takes more than 3 tries to kill any ground boss

When someone goes into the room to divert power in ka ground before clearing the room out

When someone quits just cause your team failed the optional

when the bug only spawns less than 5 people on any stf

WHEN PEOPLE START PLAYING ON ELITE BEFORE THEY START PLAYING ON NORMAL!!!

This happened to me that day :(

You know its going to be a bad STF when... one of your fleet mates is bragging about his new MKXII Purple Tetryon console and want to give it a try... and when the STF begins you realize he is using phasers (yeah, he was thinking "If I use a tetryon console my phaser becomes tetryon")

You know it's a bad STF when you cover left side on Khitomer space as a sci/sci only to have a tacscort come over and shoo you away, then see the same tacscort ignore the next wave of Probes and go back to the right side, and ignore the Probes there too.

You know it's a bad STF when the first thing you see is a rainbow beamboat MVAE.

I built an Oddy that way. Hargh fore, Tric aft, and the best beam arrays of each of the six energy damage types that I could afford. Oh and the consoles for boosting beam arrays. It is actually a decent ship. Not necessarily "the best" but more than good enough to win in PvE.
