I have everything now in your cruiser build and I love it. I read that phasers were the best for PvP, but not the best for PvE. I plan to stick with my cruiser, beam arrays and PvE for a bit. Is there a beam type that is the best for PvE?
The differences between different energy types in PVE are tiny. So there is absolutely no need to spend a significant amount of resources on a new set of weapons. But if you really want to optimise at all costs, you could look at disruptors. Their proc is probably the most useful from a pve perspective.
(I haven't tested Polarons, are they strong enough to drain all the shield energy from an STF cube?)
And obviously the PvEscort would be stronger in PVE than even an optimised cruiser.

Haven't seen polarons fully drain shields from a STF cube, but they do very noticeably slow down stuff like the raptors/negh'vars in cure when they proc. This was with the flow caps skill maxed, but no additional consoles.

I have seen Cubes's shield go down simply by 2 Polaron procs stacked, 1 Polaron proc + Aceton assimilators, Target shield subsystems + Polaron proc.
I havent seen a cube's shield go down with just one polaron proc though which would probably indicate the cubes powerlevel (perhaps all npc's powerlevels) are between 40-50 powerlevel. Cant be sure on this, ofcourse.
Nice Guide- really good, however im now switching from a patrol escort to a tactical escort retrofit. any idea how these boffs might fit into the pvp build at all?
Also can someone direct me to an HEC build?
In game addy @thesaxlad invites for STF's and PUG PvP's welcome

As sad as it sounds, I'd recommend to copy the patrol escort layout regarding the tactical slots and leave the third tac ensign either unused or filled with a useless TT. If you really don't like that, you could try one DBB in the front and a target subsystem abilty in one or two of the tac ensign slots. For engineering go with EPtS1+2, science remains as it is.
and the somraw and scourge retrofit. you should post a thread on this guide in the shipyard section, they need it. in that wonder-a-escort thread, hey were salivating for any decent build from a pvp'er
I would like to say thank you for a simple approach for us. I have followed your set and it is great for me. However, could you please update guide the for all the season seven updates. I am confused on the amount of gear out there in the Fleet system. I am not sure how the conversion rate is going to work either... Live long and prosper, Mac.
Obviously there is more than one way to build a healer. But think the reason that one uses an engineer as main healer and not a sci or tac is because of the superior self-defense of the engineer. And armor consoles increase the defensive strength of the ship.
A little bit more healing here and there can help occasionally, but a dead main healer will certainly get the team in trouble, so it is paramount that he stays alive.
First off Thank you for this guide. I plan on following it as best as I can. Which leads me to the one complaint I have with it.
Like every other guide I have found on the forums, it is layed out for max level cap, purple geared don't M.A.C.O. me slap you with a fish player.
What gear would a PVE grinding F2P user like myself use? I am an Engineer who can't seem to break away from his cruiser, although when I hit captain I am tossing around the idea of getting an escort with my promotion.

It's tough to understand what you're asking here. Do you mean what should you do while levelling? (In all honesty, the non-facetious, dead serious answer is, "Whatever you want").
If you mean what should you do once you hit 50, the million-dollar question is really just whether you intend to PvP or not. If you do, stick to your snoozer and she'll serve you well. If not, an escort'll always get you the best bang for your buck in PvE.

In the latest update to the guide I have significantly reduced the dilithium cost for gear. Most of the suggested weapons are now available through PVE missions. I also included suggestions for an alternate deflector/engine/shield for the time before you can acquire the borg deflector/engine and maco shield.
For an engineer, a cruiser is a good choice for pvp.
For levelling (if you simply want to level fast) I suggest an escort with Dual (Heavy) Cannons, turrets and Cannon Scatter Volley. It really doesn't matter much what gear you have during levelling. White gear of the highest level you can equip is perfectly fine for PVE.
Just wanted to say that I'd never really tried to use the spacebar bind, until I found a build on the forums that called for it. Your website was where I got the bind file, and it works awesomely!

That looks nice. The thing is, I do Ground PvP, and mostly PvE in space, so clicking on heals for my team / self is working pretty well for now. I do like the switch of the F buttons - much more intuitive!
I noticed that your builds use the Borg Engines. Have you accounted for the fact that the Borg console no longer counts towards the 2-set bonus?
I don't want to speak on the OP's behalf, but I'd imagine he's using them because the Deflector + Engines are the better of the possible two-piece combos. Plus the Borg console is just great to run on its own.

The builds use borg engine+deflector to get the 2-part bonus.
It is true that the difference between the 2-part borg set and other combinations has decreased with the borg set changes, but I think that it is still the easiest combination to fly for beginners because of the built-in heal. (And you can get the borg engine+deflector a bit earlier in the rep system than other set items.)
Sorry, I meant the 3-set bonus in the above post. I just got the impression from some players that since you can no longer get the 3-set whilst not having to use the Borg shield, that its better to aim for a Maco/Omega/Aegis 3-set bonus, and keep the Borg engine handy for sector space. Is this the wrong approach?

I don't myself think 3 piece maco or omega is all that great for pvp. There good don't get me wrong there just not uber PvP sets. Omega 2 piece is nice but hardly game changing. The maco shield everyone agrees is fantastic the 2 piece bonus however is junk... and the 3 piece isn't much better.
Aegis is more usable then many give it credit for yes... however it is still far from the best shield option.
Right now for a new player coming in I would suggest the following low cost setups...
1) Borg 2 piece + GOOD resistant shield. The Tier 4 fleet shield would be killer... the lower tier fleet shield is also great... and worst case a good MK XII shield is not a bad option either to be honest, they are inexpensive and you can grab one with mods that work for your build.
2) Aegis 2 Piece + GOOD resistant shield. "Ditto" You gain +10 defense... if you have a maco shield aegis 2 + maco is a great option. Its also an option that gives you a Hyper Impulse engine which used to be the gold standard of Escort players for a reason.
3) 3 Piece Aegis... best if your build is heavy on shield heals... as being a Cov shield you can't really rely on regen to fill it ... the 3 piece bonus can be a good extra bit of defense.
4) Forget completely about set bonuses... and get a good Positron deflector (this will boost shield systems and emitters... as well as Structural integrity SIF) Plenty of good ones on the exchange for low cost.... Get a good Engine... Hyper Impulse on that escort, something with SPD and TURN. Then again find yourself a good resistant shield... and your good.
New players place way to much importance on the sets imo... frankly If 95% of people that are new to Pvp would take there silly STF sets off and set themselves up ala option 4... they would do far far better.
There are definitely some great non-set deflectors out there. I think my Engie has a Positron with Shield Systems/Emitters (it's kinda cray that you can directly boost Systems and Emitters works wonders too). For certain roles I'd say it outperforms some of the set equipment
At this time, you may only post replies to threads that have already been created. After a certain amount of time has passed since your registration date, you will be able to create new threads in forums that allow it.
Well... whatever...
I am back with my actual account since PWE is threatening to lock us old Cryptic users out in the near future. And I think I should be able to finally claim my Steamrunner now.
