But what is being done here is not exactly "comparing", it is more like advertising the other game(s). With even outright wrong statements about STO.

    • You don't need a lockbox ship. Sure it helps, but you don't need it. You also don't strictly "need" a fleet ship. It is helpful, not more.

its like saying you do not need one Bishop in Chess. Sure, it helps, but you don't need it.

Okay, then take some newbie and see him prevail against one of your skill. You won't. ;)

I'm just above average at best. But you just view extremes. Take average player in a bug, with RSP and AMS and I'm history, simply because I do not use RSP.

How is that contest of skill ?

I don't really understand your beef with RSP to be honest (and sure as hell not compared to AMS), it has a lot of counters and on its own it's not that great unless you use it properly and know what you're doing.

    1. It depends. If you are fighting premade vs premade of about equal skill lvl you need the same quality of ships. But I would agree you can have a lot of fun with a c store or a free ship. And some randoms are so bad you could kill them in a shuttle.

    2. Depends on your definition of working. If you use CPB it does dmg shields but the effect is so small that its useless. Having skills that do something but are not worth using is... well it happens in games. But the amount of useless skills in STO is too high and the devs don't seem to care that much.
Also things like the new TBR, I would not call it working, I would say it is broken.

    3. Well it does happen yes. And I admit it can be still fun.

    4. It really depends on the faction and probably also your timezone. Further if you want only arena or cnh oder both. Also there are times when you simply get matched against the same premade over and over due to the lack of players.

    5. That is ture. And I do have to contradict dalnar here. A really unskilled player can't prevail because of RSP. It might buy him a few sec but it won't help.
There are some very annoying consoles out there but people who can't distribute their shields will always fall.

When STO launched everyone was a noob by definition. Also there was VM which stunned you for ages and I think photonic fleet actually summoned a group of real ships.
RSP is can be a really nice skill and if you hate it that much I would recommend queueing with a sci friend or simply play a sci captain.

I never questioned the difference between unskilled and skilled player. Just when two roughly equally skilled people meet the P2W and crutches decide the outcome.

But that is how a F2P game works. They must have money to run the servers and pay the devs, so they give you something worth investing money in. No MMO-like F2P game can deviate all that much from that pattern.

But by that logic, he was right. As in MWO (a F2P title) skills matters..and not what you buy.

I understand that in Free To Play games you have options to buy unique cosmetic stuff, unique classes, races and all that. But not when a lockbox ship outclasses the regular ship. What's worse if a lockbox ship outlcasses regular ship offeret from huge team effort / time sink / dilithium sink like fleet starbases.

In a real twist, a gold player, that PAYS monthly for the game and plays for STAR TREK - STARFLEET ships is outclassed by some disgusting ships like bug :P How does that come into your F2P equation.

Btw. dont take me about RSP so seriously. I'm usually joking about that, but i HATE that skill with all my heart as well :o

Despite usually being very optimistic judging on the history of pvp i will wait until its here before getting too excited.

but i cant help but get a little excited as this sounds like a great idea and something i look forward to seeing.

But I think that is only true for the Bugship, and only when compared to the fleet ships players have been able to actually use so far, right? I would expect fleet ships that are available at higher starbase tiers to be more useful vs a JHAS.

    Really ??

Jem = better than fed escorts
Galor/D'Kora = better than fed cruisers
Tholian Orb = better than nebula, some science ships
time ships = better than science ships

Show me one lockbox ship, that is NOT superior to a fleet ship of same class ? Maybe I missed any...

I question the value of fleet starbases. It's not like you get fleet ships for free. 2000 zen is still 2000 zen.

JHAS is still king, unless there's something we've yet to learn about coming with the Tier 5 base. Fleet Saber is next best 'scort in my opinion, I call it the poor man's bug.

    It's kinda sad.

The people that are comparing and advertising (yes they are doing both) are like those people that say, " I'm going to leave! Watch me! I'm going to do it! Walking out the door right now! You watching?"

    Just GO!

PS seen ME all your unbound doffs and rare items and EC so I can put them to good use because Kirk knows EC won't buy you that new gun you want so bad

I don't want to distract anyone from the point with "advertisements" but I would like to point out that although I am still here, I am very dissatisfied with the state of the game. Furthermore, while I haven't fully abandoned hope, I'm not entirely comforted by the prospect of any substantial improvement or additions any time soon. The will just doesn't seem to be there.

They tacked fleet mark rewards on the foundry mission, turned them off, then on again and left them. PvP on the other hand somehow requires serious, lengthy internal discussions. Forgive me for finding it unlikely that we'll see our own PvP specific progression. Maybe we can cross our fingers for a copy and paste job in a few seasons.

For what it's worth, I'd rather they spent some time working on mechanics and balancing before they draw in a metric ****ton of afkers, farmers, and more of those special folks who can't wait to try on the latest and greatest coding mistake. But whatever. Who wants quality game play? Grinding is the bee's knees.

May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.

    my escort ranking

    1 bug

    2 temporal destroyer

    3 vet ship*

    4 fleet MVAM

    5 fleet defiant

    6 fleet somraw

    7 fleet escort

    8 fleet patrol

imo. don't bother using anything below this, you will be completely uncompetitive unfortunately.

*this is not a dueling scort, but an incredible team ship for the escort damage it deals, and its ability to do high end eng or sci stuff.

I haven't been too impressed with the Temporal Destroyer, I know it looks fantastic on paper but its huge Megatron-toe profile just presents a bigger target to me.

Well that is a good thing because I've done the patrols and new romulus.. all I have left are the tiered romulan missions when I hit the appropriate reputation rank. So technically I've finished all season 7 (season 6.5) has to offer.
