my current main has flown ships all named after Babylon 5 ships, right now he is on the U.S.S. Black Star and will eventually switch to the U.S.S. White Star if he gets a T5 Akira or the U.S.S. Excalibur on a Sovereign Refit.

My current ship is called the Judgement, it's the beautiful vessel of destructions seen below in my sig. It's a heavy escort carrier for those who don't know.

My other ship, a defiant, was called Penance.

    The reasons are obvious.

    U.S.S. INTEGRA
    Tactical Escort Retrofit
    NCC-94913-A
Same name as the model of my car (2001 Acura Integra GS-R). The last four digits of the ship's registry number are the same numbers used on my license plate.

    U.S.S SONEO SHIDAE
    Fleet Patrol Escort
    NCC-98507
I'm a big SNSD fan. "Soneo Shidae" is group's full Korean name. The last four digits of the registry number is the date that the group debuted (August 5, 2007).

    U.S.S. VALEFOR
    Heavy Escort Carrier
    NCC-96858
I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series. I took the name from the same Heavy Escort ship of the Archadian Fleet in Final Fantasy XII. In the game, the ship's official designation is "CB58." In "pager-code" back in the day, "CB58" is "6858." And that's what I used for the ship's registry number.

    U.S.S. ZANTETSUKEN
    Assault Cruiser
    NCC-91007
"Zantetsuken" is Odin's special attack in all of the Final Fantasy series. The registry number doesn't allow any numbers below 91000, so "9ODIN" = "91ODN" = "91007."

    U.S.S SHIVA
    Mirror Assault Cruiser
    NCC-95118
Shiva is one of the summons in Final Fantasy. And is known for having an affinity to ice. So I decorated the ship with light-blue patterns and equipped her with the Breen Supercooled set. The registry number, 95118 is "9-SVA" = "95118."

    U.S.S BAHAMUT
    Odyssey Star Cruiser
    NCC-99999
The biggest, baddest, dragon in all of video games. If anyone's played any Final Fantasy, they know who Bahamut is. He has a special attack that deals "9999" damage. It seemed like an appropriate registry number for it's namesake.

My first ship is called USS Yamato my Light Frigate or Miranada class. I named it not just for the japanese battleship but for the tv series space battleship Yamato called Star Blazers here in the USA

My constitution or Light Cruiser USS Imperial Terran which is basically Terran Empire my favorite from Star Trek TOS and Star Trek Enterprise which is sort of the theme for all my ships

My Cruiser which looks like Enterprise-A the constitution refit is called USS Imperator which in star trek mirror universe novel was the flagship of the terran empire before the USS Defiant was found. It is latin for emperor or warlord.

My Excelsior heavy cruiser was USS Potemkin but that was the name of a ship Commander Riker served on. So I renamed it USS Impero. Impero is italian for Empire and was the name of an italian battleship during word war ii it was later sunk by Germans when italy joined the Allies. The germans did not want the allies.

My Galaxy class ship is the USS Hyperion named after the Titan who was super strong also a villian and super hero in Marvel Comics.

USS Banshee my Defiant class ship named after the Banshee of irish myths. When you heard the scream or song it would usually mean danger and death.

USS Boston my defiant retrofit and best ship with borg modifications and armed with phaser cannons. Boston is in my home state and major battles of the American Revolution were fought there.

USS Tyre is my Ferengi D'akora Maruader Tyre was the capital city of Phoencians one of the first civilizations that traveled far and traded with many cultures

USS Omerta is my Sovergin ship and Assault Cruiser Omerta is a sicillian code of silence basically it goes "if you kill me i forgive you but if i live i will kill you" in the mirror universe i figure it would be a code they live by

USS Revenger is my Mirror Universe Assault Cruiser it looks like the Star Cruiser of course. I have this ship equipped with anti proton cannons

USS Ruthless my Mirror Universe Star Cruiser (soverign class) I need to tweak it. The names of both mirror universe ships come from Star Trek Shattered Universe which was a video game with Captain Sulu and the Excelsior trapped in the Mirror Universe.

USS DEATHWEB is my Tholian Orb Weaver it is a very interesting ship i named it after a group of super villians that have spider powers and of course battled Spiderman and the Avengers

In game I've seen hundreds if not thosends of ship names and most of them are unique. This made me curious to see if these names were chosen for a reason or just because it sounded cool.

My current ship is called U.S.S. SHIRLY WALLIS.
It's named after my mother inlaw who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Before that it was called the U.S.S. BECKS-VIER
    after my favourite beer. Lol

    What's yours called and why?

It's with a heavy heart that I inform my STO community and friends that my ships namesake Shirley Wallis lost her battle with cancer last night.

i have used many names and sometimes changes them. there is only one which i have used for 10 years in other trek games which started as a joke but stuck by my side. its the only name for which i was forced by sto to change or get banned. i have seen much worse many times over but they just had to pick on mine. it was...

    USS SPOCKS LEFT N*T

i am leaving out the full name so not to offend but it gets a lot of attention usually asking why spocks left n*t? because in my old game spocks right n*t would not fit.

people asking me which is the more logical n*t

just trying to gave a few players a quick lol.

other memorable names i have used

    SIR TRIBBLE A LOT
    BIRD DROP SOUP
    NOOB GOD
    U.S.S S.S
    CLUE THE SLOTH

i have also noticed they particularly dont like any ship with the name MONITOR in it which has been my core gaming name forever before coming over to sto.

Odyssey Tact - U.S.S. Nimitz, named after the Nimitz Class aircraft carrier, the current largest warship in the world.

Assault Refit - U.S.S. Independence, one of the Flag Ships of my fleet, just because there is something proud sounding when you say "The Independence is coming!". Or it could just be me.

Shuttle - U.S.S. Puddlejumper, lets face it, shuttles ain't ships.

TOS Connie - U.S.S. Chicago - why not? (DA BEARS!)

Tact Escort (defiant) - U.S.S. Tomahawk, Because like the Missile, you don't wanna be on the wrong side of it.

Dreadnought - U.S.S. Blackhawk - After the famous military helicopters, the workhorses of military aviation. They make sure they bring our soldiers home.

My names are pretty basic and no thought goes into them beyond what type it is because I want to be able to find and use the one I want hassle-free. So my Delta Flyer is the USS Delta Flyer and so on.

My exceptions are the Excellence as all my Defiant ships, as that is my RPG ship name, and the Jean Ralphio as my Mobius. Oh, and the Avalanche is my Tuffli, because that way it stacks alphabetically at the top of the list and is easiest to get to as fleet crafter.

    Alright here she goes....

    FED Main

    Mobius: I.S.S. Echo > Mirror vessel, and can "echo"/"Clone" itself-ish (past/future variants)

Wells: U.S.S. Avalon > Like the name (Just got this one the other day, random gen came up with that - haven't decided on a custom name yet)

    Galor: USS Koranak II: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Koranak

D'Kora: USS Entreprenuer > Reason not required

Na'Far: USS Tek's Treasure > (Characters name is Fibertek)

Delta Flyer: USS Pillbug > Looks like a bug!

Recluse: USS Araneae > Name of spiders proper

Widow: USS Widow > Yea I know, it's original

Weaver: USS Araneidae > Name of spider weaver proper

Lt. Cmdr Connie: USS Shatner's Toupee > It represents age, as his as well when he got it XD

Escort Retrofit (Ushaan > T5 non-fleet variant) - USS Waverider - Looks kinda like a bodyboard

Fleet Defiant (F-Tac-Retro): USS Fair Haven: One of my fav. VOY episodes.

HEC: USS Judgement > No reason in particular, the name goes well with the Thunderchild skin (Judgement : Thor : God of Thunder I suppose)

Fleet Patrol Escort: USS Independence > Actually completely off the game on that one, just stole the name from the Mon Calamari flagship in X-Wing.

Class F Shuttle (Retired): USS Sixties > 'Nuff said.

Odyssey Star Cruiser (2yr Freebie): U.S.S. Iced Raktajino > Never fly it, so decked it with Aegis and the TOS phasers from the T1 Connie > blue/icey lookin whale now.

There's a few I missed, I'll edit them in later as the server is kaput right now.

I have a KDF captain based on Sansha Kuvakei.

All his ships are named after the NPC ship types that Sansha's Nation fly, depending on the rank he received them at, and also the ship's size.

He can usually be found flying either the Centus Overlord (Orb Weaver) or the Centatis Wraith (Scourge Retrofit)

My main, and only toon is a engineer.

My ship name is that u.s.s Zuikaku, named after one of the Japanese carriers that hit pearl harbour, and a ship that went through many battles for many years before getting damaged, then sunk later.

So far I haven't seen a ship with the same name as mine, but have seen a lot of U.S.S. Yamotos and yorktowns

Mine just got called U.S.S Problem due to the captain being an idiot and not knowing how to fly the thing. (Yes, I still don't know how to control it right. xD) But I'd most likely want to call my next ship Titanic as I'm more than likely to crash it.

All of that toon's ships are named after Metallica songs. I think Damage, Inc. was the LC cruiser. I can't remember all of them, but there was also a U.S.S. Motorbreath, Leper Messiah, and Metal Militia.

I have so many... lets go by toon:

Vice Admiral Ross: USS Lexington (Oddy Tac) named after the TOS Constitution class cruiser (there have also been Excelsior and Nebula class ships of this name). USS Falchion (Escort Retrofit) the Canon escort (and Retro) version is the Saber class so it made sense to name it after a sword.

Vice Admiral Sulok: USS T'Kumbra (Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit) named after the Nebula class ship once commanded by Captain Solok in the DS9 show.

Rear Admiral Upper Half S'Narl: USS Worchestershire (Advanced Escort) named after a county in the West Midlands of England... and a delightful sauce :)

Rear Admiral Dex: ISS Luna (Mirror Deep Space Science Vessel) named after the USS Luna, supposed to be the Mirror version of the first ship of the class.

Captain Sarish Ren: USS Orb Of Peace (Exploration Cruiser)... he is a highly religious Bajorn.

Lieutenant Commander Andol Andok: USS Eagle (Cruiser Refit) named after the Constitution Refit (movie style) ship that supposedly had an all Andorian crew.

Lieutenant General Do'tagh son of Mor'ach: AKS Waff'le I'ron (Mirror Vor'cha) do I even need to explain?

I have four other KDF toons, but the names of their ships are mainly just Klingon sounding... one (cannot remember which) has a shuttle name G'nat!
    Vice Admiral Ross
and others too numerous to name...

My Ferengi Captain flies a D'kora named U.S.S. Latinum Star. It was originally called "Heart of Gold" (as a reference to The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy). One day, while running the Tour of the Galaxy, I came across another D'kora named Latinum Princess, and I though it was the best name ever for a Ferengi ship. Later I came up with latinum star as a close enough homage.

Many of my ships are named after grandkids... all of my TOS Connies are named Intrepid with one exception. That's because back when I was an avid scale modeler all of my TOS Connie models were Intrepids. I love the name and the history of the that ship's name... especially the WWII carrier. The one exception was one I built for my wife... the USS Paladin. And, indeed, one of my characters has a TOS Connie called USS Paladin. It's the ship he uses for the Tour the Galaxy as it has been fitted with Borg engine.

Another character, patterned after my late father, has ships all named after WWII fighters and bombers including the USS Mustang, the USS Bearcat, the USS Flying Fortress and the USS Superfortress (both the fortresses were Excelsior's heheheh).

One Klingon character has a ship called the IKS Q'uv Bat'Leth. It means Honor Blade.

And I once leveled and retired a character based on John Wayne's movie character, Rockwell Torrey, whose ships were all named after John Wayne movies and facts from his life... such as the USS Alamo, the USS Arizona and the USS Searcher. All of his BO's were based on John Wayne movie character as well... :D
*STO* It’s mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!
