I disagree. I think it is every bit as capable and even more versitile than an escort. The uni slots give it flexibility. Is it superior? Maybe not but it's an excellent utility player. Can a fleet escort switch out a boff and give a team a sci capability like gravity well?

Its is not worth the LTS to get the ship or any ship i think for that amount of money. I bought the LTS the last time it was on sale because it was a good deal and I knew I would be playing this game for a very long time!
The ship however is not the best looking but I took it on some STFs and it was tanky, maneverable and put out the fire power in both modes. I would fly it again.
The ship is really meant for LTS players who typically will have a large cadre of characters and cannot afford to buy a C-Store, lockbox or fleet ship for each and every character. For instance, three of my freshly minted VAs use the Chimera since it is better than the retrofit VA ships.
Is this ship worth all the hype? I mean it looks like a fun ship but is it worth buying a 200 dollar life time sub just to get it? If so, please explain why its worth it.
I am using it and it feels good for me i have my usaul set of borg weapons mk xii on it and when i go in STF its fine, if you put the right brigde officer abbility's you should be good. But some other players say that its look abit horibble looks but hey its your opinion and my opinion.
I'm a lifer since the game launched, so I got mine and tricked it out into an ESTF BEAST!
My weapon loadout is basically like an escort in the front (i.e. all dual cannons) and a cruiser in back (beam arrays and a tricobalt torpedo) - all anti-Borg antiproton except for the torpedo, natch. For other equipment, I went the full Borg (shields, deflector, engine and universal Assimilated Module), along with Subspace Field Mod, three Mk XI AP mag regs and a Mk XII tricobalt console. I save the phaser lance (and usually the torpedo) for transformers, gateways, and the "boss" ships at the end (the tactical cube in "Infected", the carrier in "Cure" and Donatra's Scimitar in "Khitomer").
I personally like the ship design overall, with the only thing I don't like being the huge "om nom nom" deflector dish.
I also like the fact that I can play it as a half-way ship, being between the capabilities of a cruiser and an escort. I can also throw a science officer in the LCDR universal slot and throw some decent science powers around.
I got the gold/lifetime when STO first came out...but that's because I love the game and the genre. That being said when the Chimera came out (and it IS a destroyer...A class between escort and cruiser) I picked it up only to be happily surprised.
Its a good ship if you build it right. Tough in a fight. Good DPS.
I've been running all the basic Borg gear and so far I haven't died or had to run for it yet.
Mind you, I haven't taken her out in any PVP action but for everything else its a great little ship.
Is it worth getting a gold membership?.... no ship is worth that but gold does have its bonuses like the free ZEN every month. Consider how much people spend on keys for lock boxes to try and get the timeship..... now that is crazy in my opinion
Personally, I'm a cruiser guy and not much of a fan of escorts aside from the Defiant. I love that I can switch between being more tanky or offensive, and the cannons are wonderful either way. As much as I loved the Galaxy-X, it just doesn't match up to this, mostly due to the turn rate difference.
My current equipment build is:
Fore: 2x Dual Heavy Phaser Cannons, Quad Phaser Cannon, Quantum Torpedo (though may switch to another Cannon)
Aft: 3x Phaser Turret
Deflector: Breen
Engine: Breen
Shield: Jemhadar
Eng Consoles: Included Tactical Console, 2x Neutronium Alloy (may switch one to the Assimilated Console)
Science Consoles: 2x Field Emitters
Tactical Consoles: 4x Phaser Relays
My EPS is 12 per second, so the loadout works pretty well. Defense hasn't been an issue, sometimes a shield may go down, but the turn rate, EPtS, and my Engineer class skills has made it a non-issue, which is why I'm considering less hull plating.
I love my Chimera, and it's sister destroyer on the KDF side.
I think the secret gem behind this ship isn't its superiority in any particular instance, but rather, it's flexibility during the same mission.
Generic stations, swapping BOFFs on the fly, on-demand transformation from damage to survivability, and you have a lovely little ship full of all sorts of complexity. More survivable than the escort, but way more maneuverable than the cruiser.
For me, it's a perfect ship for PVE queues that you can adjust when you get a feel for what the rest of the group is bringing.
As a reward for a Lifetime subscription (bought mine immediately before the game went live) it's solid. As a reason for buying a Lifetime? I think you will be disappointed. To me, it sounds like a "I want to fly the best", which this ship isn't. Again, in specific roles, there are better options. To me, this is for those that like complex gameplay and hot-seat decision-making as opposed to min-maxing and theorycrafting.

and thats my two cents. lol
It is rather ugly and I will not fly it anymore until we get skin options!
but i don't think its worth tht mutch money
What setups have you used? I was thinking the breen or jem hadar sets
