So your solution is for Cryptic to blow hundreds of thousands of dollars to appease less than 20% of the playerbase?
Ah,there we have it.... 'less than 20% of the playerbase'. This TRIBBLE is really pissing me off, every single time Cryptic pulls a stunt like that it always effects a minority. Now we can add monthly subscribers to the expanding list of minorities Cryptic steps on and disregards.
Think about this for a sec......in one way or another we are all part of a minority, sooner or later you are part of a minority they step on.

Excellent post ^
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] EXPLORE.
Dec '07 Account I EARNED 1000 days...I didn't BUY it! New LTS=Death to Vet.System: 10/10/12 Never Forget Something should be done for those who cared enough to have a 1000+ day sub.
When it comes down to it, I paid 250 dollars three years ago for my LTS subscription. Someone who paid yesterday has paid the same amount of money as I did three years ago.
Should I feel entitled to more rewards than them (a bunch of petty titles that I do not even use) just because I invested in the game/was foolish enough to spend the money before they did?
At the end of the day you all sound like a bunch of children playing "exclusive club" over toys that barely matter. If someone supports the game with a 300 dollar investment, they have put in the EXACT same amount of effort that you did even if you did it sooner.
They have in one swoop bought and paid for nearly three years of game time, aren't they entitled to the same amount of rewards as someone who has subbed for that amount of time? The only thing they have not invested is paying that out over 36 months.
The primary reason that Cryptic has done this is because the LTS for everyone has paid for itself.
What are you getting for 1000 days worth of paying your subscription?
1. Sorry if this sounds sarcastic, but for a complete list of what you are getting, either look at your veteran rewards accolades in-game or refer to the Veteran rewards list. There you will find a complete list of what paid subscribers get after 100, 200, 300, 1000 days paid subscription. Apart from any (not really worth singing about) specific LTS items, you are getting the same as what all the LTS people are getting, it's just staggered because you kept paying a subscription instead of saving up for a LTS - which I did for the simple reason that it makes me Gold, but 'free' to play and not for any "I want special stuff" reasons. F2P players don't get anything from this special offer (which ends Nov 12th anyway), so no-one is getting anything for nothing - everyone who is getting this stuff HAS PAID SOMETHING in order to get it. Instead of complaining about how 'unfair' this special offer is, try mounting a campaign for a special offer for all 'real' 1000 day vets to be made Lifers. That seems fair to me, which brings me to the second thing you are getting for your money.
2. The game. Outside of those who pay for keys to play the Lock Box game, Gold members are where the Dev's food money comes from. If everyone bought lifetime, the game would (financially) have to rely on new players. Gold (and their equivalent before the switch to F2P) players, and whether we like it or not, lock boxes, are the reason we still have a game.
As a related aside, I personally feel that giving 1000 days to every lifer past, present and for the moment future is not the best thing they could have done. If an offer like this had to come up, I would have said perhaps 1000 for existing lifers and Gold switching to LTS, and 500 days for F2P buying the LTS during the offer. Or maybe just a gift of 100 days worth of veteran reward, whatever, but something a little less extreme. The ship is ugly as hell anyway and being happy with my one science character, I won't be using it. The point of this offer is to give incentive to new and existing F2P players to 'buy' the game. I like this idea in principle and in the end, it can only be good for the actual playing experience, because (with no disrespect whatever intended to F2Pers) quite simply, if you have invested money in the game, you are less likely to leave/more likely to come back. That can only be good.
I agree that those who have been with the game since launch should get something, but LTS has been available for a very very long time too. The choice has been there. Some took it and some didn't, and like I said, I chose it for purely economic reasons. If you can afford to keep paying the sub, good luck to you. I can't so I saved up to buy LTS in order to remove an expense and it's not my and people like me's fault that they have given us all this stuff.

Well, look... I get that you see this as a matter of principle but you can have cheap methods of addressing matters of principle and you can have expensive ones.
I've worked in restaurants where customers were treated badly by some misguided employee.
Now, every conscientious manager I knew was going to try to start small fixing things. You know. Free dessert. Free appetizer. If they have to, maybe a hundred dollars in gift cards.
But if you want $10,000, whether you deserve that or not, you're going to have to get a lawyer. Because what you're asking for would cause them to lose money, the margin is that tight.
It is important to address slights, real or perceived, because perceived slights are real to the customer.
But they're not going to spend an additional $300 per customer to make it right without a lawsuit.
So if you have something of reasonable cost that would make you happy, GREAT.
A veteran BO and a lockbox key for every 100 days subscribed, applied retroactively? Great. That's in line with past things they have done to make people happy.
1000 Cryptic points for everyone who has been subscribed since launch as a thank you? Maybe.
Another $300 worth of vet vet rewards? You're going to have to go to court because what you're asking for would mean shutting the game down to make you happy.
yeah, this old hippie isn't going anywhere
and you'll be happy to know that after you more or less shamed me for buying that Wells at 9000 ec, I realized that such a thing has happened to me in the past (Selling for a mistakenly typed low price). So, I decided to go ahead and support the game as you did, and have been buying keys when I can. Even dropped some real money on it. Probably not as much as you, but I am after all a poor, old hippie.
If there was some way of verifying who had put the ship up originally, I'd drop 50 Million on them.
I havent been actually playing very much recently. I have been absorbed by the Foundry monster. I spend almost all my in game time , doing stuff in the Foundry and for the first time in months, I am not bored with the game

Good to see you still around too, Levi.
So Glad to hear that hippie. Reflection is good for the soul. Not much you can do about the other person who made the mistake - I have done it once with the tuffli - sold it for 7 millon instead of 70 million - not as bad but still. The seller gets a ticket and I tried to contact the buyer but they put me on ignore. The seller gets a ticket but I don't know if there is a way as the buyer if you can find out. I tell you for a little while that day I felt like quiting. I was only asking for half back as I made the mistake, but they ignored me and Cryptic said they could do nothing.
Anyways the best part is the impact that it has had on your point of view, just desiring to make the gesture is great for your karma. Good on you.
When somebody else gets something nice, that's them getting a reward, not you getting a penalty.
Not a penalty! Never said that... It is slapping in the face of your long term customers. Besides its 2 slaps for me. First getting rid of vet rewards shows that cryptic feels that paying long term subs ain't worth the time to create a belt, a shirt. Second slap is what they did to long term vets that earned the reward by giving it to "joe" with a cash and no wait for him. Turning vet rewards into a $199 on sale cstore item. C meaning cash now.
You know LTS was intended to be a one time only game launch sale, but they later brought it back and have been using it from time to time as money grab sales.
If I knew then what I know now, I'd have never bought the LTS at launch.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online!
You think it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain vet rewards? I mean this light hearted... You sir are on crack
Not really. I think it honestly costs that.
I would venture that the 1000 day vet ship ALONE cost at least $30,000 to make. And probably cost them three times that in revenue by not selling it instead.
You know LTS was intended to be a one time only game launch sale, but they later brought it back and have been using it from time to time as money grab sales.

That shirt and belt probably would have cost them $5,000 to make and hook up.
Let's say profit (after connection expenses and stuff included in the game) on an LTS is $100. Not unreasonable since I've heard profit on $15 a month subs is around $6. Now let's say Jupiter vet costumes cost of production is around $7k, ship is $30k for Fed and $12k for the Klingon version, hull is $3k, Mugato is $7k, Captain's Table is $8k, Klingon add on stuff is $3k. Let's not even look at lost revenue from services offered.
That's $70k in expenses. Add in another $5k for the shirt and belt you propose.
You'd need 750 people to appreciate it or it's a waste. And it's maybe 6% of the value of lifetime subs at $100 profit a piece. So let's say it's worth $6 for every lifer. Let's say there are 15k lifers. That shirt and belt is worth $60,000 if every lifer bought the package because of the value of all of the items equally. But I'll betcha you see maybe more like 1k extra subs sold or $6000 return on a $5000 belt. And the belt takes an extra $1000 if the artist making it and the guy doing hook ups get sick for a combined total of 4 days.
Meanwhile, looking back at lost revenues from not having people develop items for sale... That costume maybe could have generated $40,000.
So you're out $40,000 because a guy on the forums wanted a shirt and belt. Now you have to lay somebody off because you can't make salary.

Where? What?? How did you get thoses numbers??? Oh never mind you must be a young go getter! Lots of ideas in that head! All I have left for you is ooooook;)
Well since the first post seemed to close to the rest that is was moved or absorbed I'll try a different topic. What do I get? Since lifers no matter what day they joined get the ship. Since F2p and new people can get the ship & title Wednesday as long as they pay life. What do I get?? I have been on since a week before launch. I have paid 6 month sub since the launch. What do I get Wednesday? Because I don?t get the ship for like 10 days or so. What do I and people like me that has paid more than life and been on for almost 3 years get on Wednesday? If this is flaming then Im sorry.. You want to toss this then so be it ill create another way to ask. Boot me from the forums so be it. People know me on this game. People know im a nice guy but this is wrong! A slap to long term gold members. A slap to day one life members. But this is about gold. Not the ship. I want something. I cant be the only Gold member still playing/paying since launch.
Know what I want? I want to quit paying 6 month sub... Well I plan to do that:) but for Gold people that has paid & played for 1000 days I want my 400 points a month but I no longer want to pay my sub to get it. So I want life!!! I know lifers wont like it but I think fair is out of the window. I have paid/played for almost 1000 days and I think anyone who has paid for 1000 days should get that "reward" What about 1000 day lifers? Give them a new badge. What I am trying to say is give SOMETHING to who have been here for a 1000days of paying. Something fraking that shows you all still give a TRIBBLE about us.
wel.. i say you should have done so from the start. but i bet you toucht oo thats to expancive and i dont guess i still play than..
wel.. if you cant handel it that you cant get it becours you did not get lts from the start you should have /facepalm your self
Where? What?? How did you get thoses numbers??? Oh never mind you must be a young go getter! Lots of ideas in that head! All I have left for you is ooooook;)
They're wild guesses. That's the entire point of what forums are for!
But average salary for a game designer in the bay area is around $80k. This is an area where $50k is the equivalent of poverty anywhere else in the country.
Factor in benefits and sick days and payroll tax. Each employee costs Cryptic around $95,000 a year on average. 50 hours a week. That's $35 an hour, per head, for involvement in anything.
Five guys in an hour long meeting discussing which ship to do next is $175 out the door. More if it's senior guys.
Likewise, one guy spending six weeks on a ship is around $9500, even allowing time spent on touch-ups elsewhere. Three guys spending six weeks on a ship and a fourth guy hooking it up is approaching $30,000.
Cryptic can show their appreciation (if they have any) for monthly subscribers by making the playable Liberated Borg Captain part of the 1000 day veterans reward.
The PWE/Cryptic sweatshop...not where the game is made, but where the game is played!
