Hook...my kids love that movie. I could be wrong but he says that, or something very close to that.
Anyway, back on topic, Life isn't fair, if you haven't already figured that out by now. Either way, keep subbing, don't sub, or get an LTS.
No one made you Sub but you.
Both sides have a point here. Life-timers shelled out a hell of lot of money way back in the day, so they should have been rewarded with some kind of in-game special compensation. That's called creating customer loyalty, and it?s a very basic and important concept in business. If none of you in the forums recognize this, then you don't understand business.
On the other hand, looking at this situation from the point of view of my end as somebody who paid for 400 subscription days before buying an LTS, I really like the idea of my hard earned and paid for days stacking up towards the vet awards I will get after buying an LTS. A lot of LTS'ers bought a life-time account, played a few months after launch and haven't touched the game again. Should the time that they spend not playing be rewarded more than the money and time I had to spend into get up to my 400 days on the gold subscription? So, I can perfectly understand resentment towards lazy lifers because they didn't have to be online for every one of those days that accumulated towards vet rewards.
That being said; the devs are treading down a very dangerous path. They're cheapening awards that lifers thought were unique to them in order to attract gold?s and f2p'ers. That means they're willing to sacrifice some of the loyalty of pre F2P lifers in order to earn an extra buck. That looks a lot to me like a desperate move. If you don't have enough special content that you can't even please long-time life-timers, that means there is something fundamentally wrong with your content production schedule.
This decision also brings you further down the path of monetizing everything in the game and cheapening any sort of special incentive for having bought an LTS long ago. Hey, don't get me wrong; I don't condone lazy LTS'ers sitting on their butts, but a lot of LTS'ers do continue to make purchases in the game through the c-store. So, a balance is needed here. C-store purchases are necessary, but the items within the c-store shouldn't break the balance of the game in areas like PVP. Fleets are necessary, but one shouldn't have to join one to have to enjoy the special content in the game. Veteran awards are necessary to attract gold players, but there should also be special awards for people who have been with Cryptic since day one and long ago.
In sum, this is a bad business and PR move by Cryptic. Poorly executed through and through. Don't offer vet rewards to F2p'ers through a LTS without ensuring that the rewards for long-time LTS holders remain special, thus ensuring customer loyalty with that crowd. In other words, if you don't have enough special content to be able to create special rewards for long-time layers and new LTS members, then you shouldn't be doing these promotions at all. It looks like you're so desperate for money that you're willing to sell the very soul of STO for a few extra bucks.
I've played since release. Always paid subscription, still do today, when I have played STO.
I have 536 days. I've obviously taken breaks from the game.
That first year all I ever heard from lifetime members was how they paid the money so they should count more than other subscribers.
2 and a half years later those same people are complaining about those who are paying money, saying they aren't as special simply because of when they paid their money. Weird.
At 536 days I've paid as much as most lifetime folks. With 464 days until 1000 days, I can buy a $200 lifetime today and get the rewards, or pay around $240 for the next 16 months to get those rewards.
My point is, Cryptic is doing this for me, not you, and will be paid $200 today for it.
You get a bruised ego and are no longer any more special than other lifetime members.
As it should be.
Keep your tears to yourself.
All of you guys need to stop the finger pointing, insults, and childish comments. I'm not even a moderator, and this thread has gotten out of hand. Don't tell him to keep his tears to himself because it seems like you're massaging your ego in the process of belittling him. Show some maturity.

The truth is not always compatible with everyone's sensibilities. Nothing of what I say is inaccurate.
There is a false premise by some that length of time played is the primary measurement to be used in relative comparisons specific to a players commitment to STO. This premise includes a working assumption of entitlement for those who were around in the beginning.
It's a fallacy, and always was. Now the game no longer provides a basis for that artificial belief some had that made them special. They feel slighted their ivory tower is crumbling around them.
I have no sympathy. It was always a fallacy, their realization it was a fallacy does not make the issue a community problem. The only damage here are to the egos of those who have discovered they are not any more special than other lifetime members, an ego bruise everyone impacted by will recover from just fine.
There is a false premise by some that length of time played is the primary measurement to be used in relative comparisons specific to a players commitment to STO. This premise includes a working assumption of entitlement for those who were around in the beginning.
And it's a false premise you're popularising and attributing incorrectly to the 1000-day vets.
I'm not ticked 'cause people can spend the same money I did and get the same (largely irrelevant shinies).
Back when the game launched, we didn't even know there'd be a veteran rewards program.
All the LTS guaranteed you was to be able to play, for as long as the game was running. None of us knew how long that would be.
It was a gamble - one that did and didn't pay off. Yes, the game's still alive but it's a perversion of what it was originally intended to be. Honestly, those of you that are buying LTS' now, I have to ask 'why?'. Even with the ship, you're not getting that much that you can get through Dilithium.
I'm ticked because 1000 days ago, I gave a not inconsiderable sum of money for the only benefit of not having to pay-to-play. In those 1000 days, the game has broadened in scope but become far removed from what it could have been. And there's no going back now.
To those like me that stuck around, this was Cryptic's final chance to say 'thanks for believing in us and the game' - instead, all they've shown is that their longest-standing supporters are of no consequence to them.

I'd hate to work for them.
I don't get why you have such sentimental attachment to this point.
Did you want to leave? If so, you could have left... and come back... or done whatever you wanted to do.
If you were here, you got nanopulse weapons, the Next Generation title, ship trophies, fire extinguishers, etc.
All the lifetime was about was the option to come back. It was never an investment in the game. Heck, I don't know if Cryptic ever saw a dime from Lifetime sales even though they have to budget for them now.

It was a $300 gamble - pure and simple. What existed wasn't deserving of that kind of money (and arguably, what exists now still isn't). The difference being that back then we didn't know if we'd still be playing the game in six months time or not - much less whether we'd get any neat perks (besides the Liberated Borg Captain) for the money.
Now LTS's have it pretty simple: Is the package of goodies worth $300 to me? You know exactly what you're going to get and you get it immediately - no risk, no waiting.
Back then, Cryptics life-blood was the box-sales and the subscriptions and yes - the LTS. The only stuff in the C-Store was the (promised) cosmetic, micro-transaction stuff - no $25 ships (in fact, no ships in the C-Store at all). LTS sales dumped a big chunk of cash Cryptics way early on in the life of this game that they'd have otherwise ha to wait around 20 months to accrue.
Maybe you see it as stupidity. Maybe you see it as just being cavalier with money. I prefer to see it as having faith in a developer and paying up front as a sign of that faith. It's pretty obvious though that to Cryptic I'm just another sucker with more money than sense.
Here's how I look at it, there are two different things at work here.
One is the Lifetimer promotion.
Once you're a lifetime subscriber that's it, you're it for life. Doesn't matter when you bought it, the fact that you bought it makes you one. And all lifetimers should be treated the same, whether they bought it today or two years ago. If one Lifetimer gets a new perk, they should all get them. You pays your money, you gets your stuff, simple as that.
This is Cryptic's top-dollar item, why shouldn't they continue to incentivise it?
And then there's the entirely separate issue of Gold Subs.
If you've been a gold for 1,000 days you get the ships, period, end of story.
I don't see anything wrong with any of it. I've been here since open beta. I've taken breaks and gone silver, so I have about 830 days, but I've really played far more than that. This promotion has made me think about getting a lifetime. Not sure where I'll end up.
Back when the game launched, we didn't even know there'd be a veteran rewards program.
All the LTS guaranteed you was to be able to play, for as long as the game was running. None of us knew how long that would be.
That is not even close to true. We knew STO would have veteran rewards at launch. CO had them for months before STO launched and the developers were clear that STO would have them as well. We did not know what they would be until the 100-day reward grew close, but we did know they would be coming in 100-day increments.
Honestly, those of you that are buying LTS' now, I have to ask 'why?'. Even with the ship, you're not getting that much that you can get through Dilithium.

We simply see it differently. The game is very good right now, and is constantly getting better in my opinion. I'm excited about the changes I have seen in Seasons 5 and 6, and I'm excited about Season 7.
The month before Season 6 went to Tribble SWTOR was released and STO was dead, nobody was playing STO and there was no evidence the game was healthy. Since Season 6 lauched the active, in game community is very active, and there is no question PWE had a huge payday with the Temporal lock box and has a steady revenue model for the game in place.
By every metric we can evaluate, the game is thriving and the future is bright. So unlike the risk early lifetime members took investing in their lifetime sub, today all signs suggest such an investment is low risk, because the games future today is much brighter than it was back then.

Speak for yourself (as, presumably a Champions player) - I was unfamiliar with Champions and Cryptic prior to getting into the STO closed beta. No veteran rewards were promised at that time - only 'expected' and nothing official was published about what they'd be and when (even if) we'd get them (although there was much speculation).
*Edit* the game was launched in February 2010, the vet rewards scheme was announced in April 2010.

You don't even know if Cryptic got any of that. Given their bonus structure with Atari, my guess is they didn't but would get bonuses as long as Atari was happy with what they looted from the treasure chest.
The month before Season 6 went to Tribble SWTOR was released and STO was dead, nobody was playing STO and there was no evidence the game was healthy.
Your timeline is a little off. Measuring from the release of Starbases for testing, season 6 stuff began going up on Tribble in June of 2012. SWTOR was released in December of 2011.
"rewards based on time subscribed, this was called "Veteran" rewards" Now anyone with some money paid can have it all now now!
So I was just saying I want it all now now! They already threw vets under the bus by letting people new to the game pay and get all the rewards now. So I was just taking it one more step.. Just give me the rewards now as well. Let me hit 1000 and make me a lifer.. No? I did not gamble like you all did? Well yea you are correct I did not. But ill tell you what;) Ill pay.... $75 more dollars cryptic.. No Ill pay $100 more and you give me life. But the $199 is the price! Yes that is true.. But money talks now in this game. Starbases I could see in Cstore before its over with. Amount of time you spend means nothing compared to $$$ you spend. So give me life... Give others Maco Stlyes in Cstore and t5 bases. Not so crazy if you compare what they did with giving all new lifers all the vet rewars no matter how long in game. MONEY TALKS!
I say this not because I want the ship lol. I got like 15 days left and still not sure ill use it. I fly the fleet retro defiant. I still cant see if the pros of the new one beats the loss of console. Plus no new bridge. Im a freak when it comes to stlye and things pretty and Im not sure I like the over sized deflector. "for me at least" I love seeing all typs of ships flying around. Just me flying it.. Im not sure
Well, if you plan to be a subscriber in years to come, there is a cost-efficient way to do that. That shouldn't be news to you?
I think you missed the point I was making. The LTS was originally something that was sold late Beta and into like the first week or two of game release. That is where LTS should have ended and actually did for some time.
I have no issues with people buying the LTS. My issue has to do with Gold members that didn't have the LTS that were loyally paying their $15 a month who earn their vet rewards.
Yes I, as a game launch LTS didn't have to play 2.5 years straight and honestly didn't. Out of my 993 days, I'd say maybe 300 of those are me actually playing the game. So I could care less about new LTS players gaining the rewards that I get now. It's about the systematic nerf of those poor loyal Gold members.
Moving on to something I touched earlier. Being that the game is F2P, those F2P gamers should be earning days towards vet rewards, but they are not. Even if they only gain a day for every day they actually log into the game, they should be earning time served, but they don't..
Gold accounts at this point should just be removed. There isn't enough bonus for staying Gold now that LTS members automatically receive 1000 days.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online!
Gold accounts at this point should just be removed. There isn't enough bonus for staying Gold now that LTS members automatically receive 1000 days.
With all due respect, nobody who has ever played a F2P account would ever say something so obviously ignorant. The value for Gold still exists, that's a fact.

His point is that LTS is now the heavy favorite over gold subs. If you consider the value over time, you have to sub for three years before the investment pays back, whereas the rewards you instantly receive for becoming LTS repay your investment immediately. It would be silly to say that gold subs have an advantage over LTSers now.

I have been paying a subscription for 674 Days, because I cannot afford to pay a one time LTS.
I must say I feel quite disappointed. I feel like I am paying for something I am not getting.
I think what they should do is give gold subbers everything after the 400 or 500 day mark, at that point you've spent around the same as someone who purchased a lifetime sub.
With all due respect, nobody who has ever played a F2P account would ever say something so obviously ignorant. The value for Gold still exists, that's a fact.
There is 0 value to gold members now in almost all cases. When the game went f2p the only real value was vet rewards. If that has ended at 1000 then no value is left.. I pay 70 some dollars every 6 months. Do you have a clue how much zen I can get with my $77.94 6 month sub??
Well lets find out shall we!
Over 7700 zen!!
But wait as gold I get the "benfit" of 400 a month! Well lets times that by 6! 2400 zen!
Hmm... it seems I would get more zen for my money "just a little;)" if I dropped too F2P
But but I wont get the large back slots and toon slots! I think for the 7700 zen I can have now that I am saving that sub money will handle the cstore purchases.
I knew all of this when it went F2P I stuck around for only one reason. One kinda stupid reason. The vet rewards. The one thing that I can say I have but F2p and people that just started dont have. Something to show people that I am a vet that has stuck around.
I challenge you to tell me one thing beyond creating foundary missions that gold give me.. Dont tell me TRIBBLE better logins over free. This game has plenty of login space. Most of my large fleet is ftp with no one in the last year telling me they had to wait for login. Get you head out of the sand. There is no reason anyone like me with the days I have should go life after 1000 or stay paid after 1000 days. Dare you to give me one other reason than to better the game. If they wanted me to stay paid or gave a damn about the old lifers. Then they would not have got rid of vet and gave us a reason to stay payed
They should turn any Gold sub that has recieved it's 1000 day vet reward into a Life Time Sub.
I am not sure about this but wouldn't fight against it haha.
Cryptic really jsut needs to give Gold 100 day "players" some respect. This just shows you are either F2P or LTS... and Gold can just go and rot.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] EXPLORE.
Dec '07 Account I EARNED 1000 days...I didn't BUY it! New LTS=Death to Vet.System: 10/10/12 Never Forget Something should be done for those who cared enough to have a 1000+ day sub.

I read it different i guess. To me it sounded like he was saying there is no value in gold membership at all. That's flat out false, gold holds huge value over silver.
Obviously the relationship between gold and lts is going to be relative to each individual. For me it was a no brainer, i bought my lts today having been a gold subscriber off and on from day 1 for a 536 days in my account.

Your timeline is a little off. Measuring from the release of Starbases for testing, season 6 stuff began going up on Tribble in June of 2012. SWTOR was released in December of 2011.
Your point may still be valid though.
Im not sure
I must say I feel quite disappointed. I feel like I am paying for something I am not getting.

I am not sure about this but wouldn't fight against it haha.
Cryptic really jsut needs to give Gold 100 day "players" some respect. This just shows you are either F2P or LTS... and Gold can just go and rot.

I EARNED 1000 days...I didn't BUY it! New LTS=Death to Vet.System: 10/10/12 Never Forget
Something should be done for those who cared enough to have a 1000+ day sub.
