The one thing Gecko always says is: Nothing is written in stone yet. All is subject to change.
So still: Proof or it didn't happen.
The reason why I openedup this thread was to maybe get the Devs a last minute idea of what the playerbase would like to have concerning the Vesta class.
Like I said before. I hope to see her as a cruiser.
There really are enough cruisers in this game as it stands. Not that I can blame Cryptic for that, the better part of ships in Star Trek most readily fit in the cruiser category.
I still say the best course of action is Science vessel with Tac lean but with Cruiser hull/shields/turn rate. It's the only way I can think of to make it anything like what I've seen it described as in the books (a mary-sue capable of basically everything) without actually making it capable of everything.
So it would be a Cruiser that turns like an Escort that comes with the free Beam Target powers?
I think a lot of people might complain about that.
Or everyone will be flying a Vesta.....
Almost correct... it'll be a science vessel that has an acceptable turn rate (not quite at an escort level), with all the science benefits (sensors + free target powers). Cannons can be equipped, perhaps even dual heavies
OP? Maybe...we'll see... only thing confirmed up till now is it's a science vessel
That's kinda why I was gunning for a cruiser turn rate. Not Odyssey abysmal, maybe, but that BOff layout plus dual heavies and sensor analysis would be ridiculously overpowered on anything that turns faster than an Intrepid-R.
EDIT: That's also why I said at first it should be limited to Dual Cannons, not Dual Heavies. DPS remains more or less the same but it castrates the ship of spike damage, meaning it doesn't push Escorts out of their place nearly as hard. END EDIT
I'm thinking Excelsior-style turn rate at best, honestly. Fast enough to not make the DHC's useless like they are on the Gal-X, but too slow to make it a first choice.
I'm hoping it will be a cruiser. It may have had a lot of prototype stuff going on but it's still a cruiser. What the game has too much or not enough of isn't really relevant. I hope one of hte conditions to Cryptic/PWE using the ship in-game is to make it what it is. A cruiser!

Strictly speaking, outside of the Defiant, every Starfleet ship is a quote-unquote "Science" vessel.
Not sure why scientists in the 24th century need a dozen phaser arrays and hundreds of photon torpedoes. Perhaps they are experimenting various ways of blowing other people up.
And sorry, but if the Nebula is a science vessel then the argument that 'oh it's big, therefore cruiser' goes out the window. The Nebula is only 'slightly' smaller than a Galaxy after all.
not to mention the deep space science vessel , thats not exactly tiny escort sized either
i know escorts = small usually works , but whos to say science vessels have to fit into a certain size?

Yes, the Nebula is a science vessel. It has interchangeable mission pods for specific scientific research.
in game, it has subsystem targeting and 6 weapon slots, and top boff is science, making it a science vessel. The Atrox even fits that description.
This game takes place during wartime. New ships have to not only be able to defend themselves, like during TNG era, but also be able to take offensive action against enemies.

Where the Bellerophon is more like a dolphin, the Vesta looks more like a shark.
Amen on that!
