Just read the "State of the game" report and read the Vesta class is on its way. Is there any confirmation about the Vesta being a cruiser or a scienceship?
I'd like to see it as the cruiser she should be. I am just reading the Destiny books. I personally think that here in STO, the Oddyssey Sci variant should have a equivalent. The Vesta could be a Sci-heavy Cruiser with Sensoranalysis... Or as James from "Priority One" once mentioned - make the Vesta available as Sci, Tac and Eng in a Pack just like the Oddyssey. Everything else is up to you.
Science primarily, three device slots, with a Tac lean (Lt. Cmdr Tac slot) including the ability to mount dual cannons (but not DHC's). But with the turn rate of the Excelsior, the hull and shield mods of a general cruiser, and only two Tac consoles.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
There been plenty of threads on what the Vesta is.
To me, the Vesta always gave me the impression that she was a Science Ship, because she was the testbed of many new technologies like the Slipsteam Drive. And with her canons, she would be as a Tactical specialized Science Ship, like the Luna.
Now given Cryptic with the new ships like the Armitage and the Regent, she would likely be like:
That would make 3 cruisers that can carry dual heavies... Galaxy-X, D'Kora and the Vesta. What is the point in letting a ship equip dual heavies if you can only take 1 rapid fire I with you?
If the Vesta is so sci heavy, it would make that abillity just as wothless as on the Galaxy-X.
No kidding! I saw a size comparison to a Sovereign, its almost the same size! Except the Vesta lacks the grace and nice design aesthetics; honestly I don't understand why that Reta-something guy gets so much credit, all his ships I've seen look terrible. Compared to the Vesta even the Ody could win beauty pageants!
It still has its fans, personally its my favorite starfleet design
its one of those ships you either love , or hate . no real middle ground
you have to remember , theres a reason for the shape of the design , in the novels , slipstream drive requires very precise hull geometry in order to be used stably ( which is how they explain why voyager couldnt use it safely )
"It could also be used as a beam intensifier. If the ship is heavily damaged and the field focuser is still online, power from the phasers and shields could be rerouted to the main deflection system and be used to ether create a shield bubble or a high intensity phaser beam which could be sustained for as long as power can be routed to the deflector array."
Talking about the Quantum field focus controller so it may be a Sci and it hold 745 -750 crew (also on the wiki). Maybe an advanced slipstream drive. I do agree with commanderkassy it is not to pleasing to look at but it is a new ship and tier 5 lets hope!
I really like the design and for me this ship is gona be a must have. For the first time I look at new starship and instantly think yes, that's a ship for the 25th century. The nacelles, the impulse engines... it just looks more advanced than let's say the souvereign class - at least for me
Make it battlecruiser-ish (like a vor'cha - maneuverable cruiser with dual cannons) or offensive science vessel-ish (like the kar'fi, but without the hangars). Just please, not another generic cruiser...
Said this numerous times, but personally I hope stat-wise it'll turn out similar to the Kar'Fi - i.e. commander science, lt.cmdr. tac and can mount dual cannons. Perhaps buff the turn-rate or HP to make up for lack of hangar bays and it's insta-buy for me.
Its already been confirmed in dev interviews its going to be a science ship that can equip dual heavies
only thing we dont know is the boff layout , though most do indeed suggest a lt commander tac station
Proof or it didn't happen.

It's pretty much this hard to keep just one timeline intact. ♪
Maybe a hybrid science-cruiser ship of some sort?
Basically, a mutt.

Ensign anything (preferably not engineer though, sci or tac would be really good)
That's just me though.
But even switching the science and engineering spots if it was science, would still make for a great ship.

Though I could see them inverting the Lt. Science and Ensign Universal. Mostly I can't see them not putting an Engineering slot on it.

Ok, lets make my Galaxy X complete worthless...
My suspicion is that it will have a nearly equally abysmal turnrate and will have a console and/or weapons that are equally as good on a Galaxy-X.
which is why ill be ignoring the cannons completely and putting beams on mine

No... im dead serious... No sarcasm, no trolling... That ship is uglier than the cryptic designs.
I'm reminded of something.....
"not sure if your ship should be hauling garbage or be hauled away AS garbage!"
Seems oddly appropriate to me.
