let me clarify. i dont think worf the character is right as a captain from a tv standpoint. when i think of kirk, picard , sisko etc i get the image of a great captain. worf is a great character and could even make a good first officer but i dont think he would work well as the captain of the show. he tends to be a bit two dimensional in his attitude to things. it could make it a more action show and a little less star trek.
when i think of picard verbally jousting with Q or sisko with Dukat i think of great TV. I'm not sure worf brings that to the table.
if i remember right, Captain Sisko gave Worf something like a black mark in his starfleet file, quite possibly stopping him from ever becoming captain. He saved Jadzia over a Cardassian spy to earn it. It would of been unlikely if he had been given a command since the end of DS9, he was to become Ambassador to the Klingon Empire on top of this.
how to explain the error in the canon would require some creative thinking.
In the DS9 episode "Change of Heart", Worf prematurely ends a mission to contact a Cardassian informant inside the Dominion in order to save his injured wife. The informant is subsequently executed by the Dominion, causing Captain Benjamin Sisko, the commander of Deep Space Nine, to caution that Starfleet might not grant Worf his own command after this incident, but adds that had he been forced to choose between his duty and his wife, he would have done the same thing.
Actually, What I had in mind IS made for DVD series production... Possibly even a 12-part made for internet release first, charging something like $5 each. Then release the entire season on DVD/BluRay for at an apropriate price point...
No commercials, No need to conform to a specific length.
I have to agree with bluegeek here. All the techdemos you have linked do not convince me that CGI can create a believeable enviroment for dramatic purposes. Don't get me wrong either, it looks really good, but it "just" looks like really good CGI. This is appropriate for videogames where it's all about the action but not enough as a substitute for live action drama. It still feels too artificial, at least to me, to get invested. In every animation, as smooth as it might be, you see the unnatural kind of movement even motion captured CG figures have.
It's fine for a game but certainly not enough for drama and at least I personally doubt that it will reach that point ever.

Worf was a fun character of his times, but I do not think "Worf" could be the spotlight captan to carry a whole Trek TV show. To be really good in the role the actor has to have a powerful screen presence that carries weight or has gravity.
Examples: Edward James Olmos had it "in spades" as Adama for the first two seasons of the NBSG. Stewart showed it starting in the second season of TNG and later. Shatner grew into it during TOS.
Other Trek series have suffered because the actor in the command role didn't have that screen presence worthy of authority. Scott B. as Archer is a great example. He was too much like one of the guys and too fresh faced to be taken "as the man." Like Frakes, he needed a few seasons in the number 2 chair as the XO (he would have been great in that role) and to maybe grow a beard or something for us to take to him. LOL
Back when Enterprise was cast, I often thought Michael Dorn outside of make up should have been considered for the role of Archer. I'd have to see a screen test now to sense if he has it in him to be the actor for the command chair now.
I do not believe there are bad characters i believe there are bad writers. I think there is some great material there in the character of Worf that good writers could bring to life. I know some say Worf was one dimensional, but I think alot of times he was treated like an after thought or comedy relief. Well, look at the movies anyway. On DS9 I felt he really began to grow. I think Dorn with the right material could be a leading man. But, the strength of Trek also relies on an ensemble cast. Put together a great cast for Worf to interact with it could be something...fun.
well yeah the actors only act out what they have been told, so it mostly comes down to the writers. I wish there will be another series in the prime verse. Want to see the old cast back for cameo appearances with the new crew on a Sovereign Class. No new ships atm.
truthfully cant see worf as a co of a starship, but a co of a spec ops team would work and it would be trek breaking new ground as it were.
always though the series should do more ground in them space is great but ground stuff was lacking really. sort of like stargate but from trek perspective. shuttle or transporter delivered troops to the ground carry out a mission and poof move on to the next, odd ball characters that like playing with the HE or sharpening a sword worf standing there going hey he gets the job done.

Star Trek was mostly and is about exploration and a better future for everyone. It should go back to its roots, they way Gene Roddenberry started it as. None of this dark/doom and gloom TRIBBLE. It sooooooo depressing. Sure have some episodes or story arcs like that but not the whole entire series.

Exactly. I don't get why so many people want military black ops elite squad US marine BS all over Star Trek. ENT did it, it sucked.
There is nothing wrong with action sequences but it shouldn't be all about the fighting. Especially not in this over-militarized way. Starfleet is not an army but an self-defense-force when it comes to conflict - even Worf learned that. And I imagine that especially he can be an interesting character when it comes to such situations - even a Klingon can learn that there is a point where there is no more need for bloodshed. And so should we

i think it was the ep were he destroyed the transport where he got the black mark but the jadzia situation would not have helped. but it would not require that much creativity really.
as you say 'quite possibly' is not the same thing as 100% no chance at all. as someone else mentioned after the dominion war perhaps they needed to let a few things slide after so many people were killed.

Ya life is depressing enough without having to watch it too :P
Give me a star trek that is like the next generation - current issue's in the form of sci-fi with a message of "things can get better" at the end.
