On to your point about the CV-6, the original "Big E" and the most decorated ship in the US Navy. Ultimately I decided to include CVN-65 over CV-6 for a couple of major reasons. The primary reason was that the CVN-65 Enterprise was the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. She was (and is) a unique and revolutionary design and important milestone in the history of propulsion, naval or otherwise. While the CV-6 had an unmatched record in battle, I felt the technological revolution of the CVN-65 made it more likely that she'd be commemorated by Starfleet, an organization hundreds of years removed from single-planet international conflicts. Secondly, the CVN-65 is actually a setting for action in a Star Trek adventure (STIV, although another ship stands in for her during filming).

Sorry but I'm going to have to disagree on the point of not including the CV-6, besides her exemplary battle record, this was the Enterprise Gene Roddenberry named the Starship Enterprise for, not CVN-65, only for that reason should CV-6 be included.
CV-6 embodies something that CVN-65 doesn't have, it is the ship that could never be defeated, it survived everything they threw at her and more.

You've got enough room, I'm at the starbase now and looking at it, you could add 2 more of those plaques under the bridge if you don't move them left from their current spot, even if you do, you can still fit in one more.

Oh and seriously fix the fonts, it looks weird with 3 different sizes, small for HMS and Ent-C, giant for NX-01, and normal for the rest.

Well I have the new Starbase Project completed. Looks nice but there are a few things that look "off".

The top boarder of most of the ships are cut off.

While there is a lot of space beside the HMS Enterprise but the other side of the new Enterprise - F and flag ship of the fleet is put behind a potted plant.

Likely a temporary glitch in your own system, the pictures show just about right in our Starbase. But what comes to the plant and Ent-F, it certainly deserves to be hidden in shame :P

    Too long to quote...

First thanks for your reply. I have no issues with the sailing ship chosen. I will actually say I support your decision, I just wanted to note there are some discrepancies even within canon.

On the topic of the CV-6, I again thank you. I'm glad to see this wasn't an omission, just a judgement call. That being said, it is still disappointing that the RL namesake for NCC-1701 didn't make it. I would argue that for those other ships and examples you cite the namesake for those was not CV-6, but rather NCC-1701 which made the addition of the iconic carrier less relevant. Also, it's worth mentioning that Archer did have mementos depicting CV-6 so it wasn't completely omitted.

It's also worth noting that despite our best intentions, we as humans have an undeniable tendency to name ships after famous wartime ships and important battles. Trek is not exempt from this. To name a few: USS Yamato, USS Intrepid, USS Hood, USS Ajax, USS Constitution, and USS Valiant. So I'm not sure the argument that the VC-6's wartime record should simply not be a factor in the discussion about the most relevant ship. After all, if it hadn't been for her record I doubt Enterprise would be as popular a ship name as it is today.

Unfortunately, my fleet has already vetoed the project. But I'm sure others will enjoy it. I'm glad to see some thought went into this though as I feared it was just forgotten entirely.

Forgetting the possible IP issues for a moment, because I don't care about them: Didn't anyone, anywhere, throw this up on a live run someplace before it was released? I know there has to be an internal testing server running someplace.

At least, I hope there is.

Actually, I know better. This is just what happens when new content doesn't get it's token two days 'testing' on Tribble.

It just proves once again that they do ZERO QA on anything they add to the game!

Their advertising arm seemed to do QA nicely for themselves though, notice how the pic in the dev blog doesn't suffer the same title clipping issues we have?

Nope the devs already acknowledged it and say they are working on a fix.

Tobar closed my thread, but I would like Branflakes or one of the Dev Team tell me that you got permission to use those pictures.

Did the Navy say it was okay to use that picture from their website?

Did the family of Matt Jefferies give permission to use his Shuttle Enterprise drawing?

Why was the Enterprise-C's picture ripped from Memory Alpha?

I honestly would some reassurance that no wrong was committed.

We're not talking about the accidental breakage of one system by changes to another, which does seem to happen with virtually every patch they release. I'd love for that to not be the case so often. This particular release however isn't broken. It's not bugged. It was simply done with no apparent care as to the quality of the work. I'm starting to think that maybe Cryptic disbanded their QA department and that's what we are now.

Which is exactly why things are broken in patches much of the time. This project and those bugs happen for the same reason. This release IS broken, and it IS bugged. I doubt highly that the art dev involved made images that are cut off at the top, or deliberately put a potted plant in front of one. They are not displaying properly. I'm not discussing the miniscule glitches that sometimes pop up, anyway. I'm discussing things that are so obviously broken that everyone in the game who deals with it discovers that it's broken, simply by trying to use it. Things that are so obviously broken that a few minutes of actual playtesting on a live server would reveal it. This project. Akira retrofits that can't be taken into STFs. Hidden dialog windows popping up every time you try to talk to you Department Heads. Having to turn in missions before you Warp to Bajor, or losing your progress entirely. These are the most glaring, but not the only, examples of the complete lack of QA. They're problems that should have come out in playtesting, had any actually been done.

Images from military websites are usually considered free domain and are free to use. The only time that doesn't apply is on a few obscure websites that are often hard to locate anyway. Given the prominence of the carrier, and availability of many images, I doubt this falls under some kind of restricted use.

There's absolutely no excuse for the misplaced picture frames, blurry fonts and pictures. It's like the dev responsible didn't even bother to look at his/her work. Pure laziness that cost us 200k dilithium. This sort of thing can not continue, the higher ups need to look at what management or processes allowed this sort of sloppy work to hit the live servers and address it.

Very well stated! There has always been a huge issue with quality control with anything Cryptic delivers and the turn around time for fixing most of these issues is 7 months or greater.

Well if this is the case, but still seems rather cheap to copy directly from the internet given the expenses we put into this. Surely their concept artists could've drawn up original artwork of their own.

Youre right... they could have... and that likely would have taken them away from more important things...

I would imagine Cryptic (or more specifically the STO team) doesnt have dedicated concept artists, and they are just artists that work on concept art as well as art assets for use in the game itself.

I do hop that if/when the Ambassador class comes out they patch the Enterprice-C picture to use an ingame model like the other ships that have one.

The KDF project makes me sad...

the big banners are so high up you have to actually be looking for them to see them
the little banners are all in the dark areas so not easy to see
and the "Transporter upgrade" is 2 pieces of glass

I was in the Starbase when the project finished (in Ops, near the transporter, on the upper platform, facing the transporter and main hall) and didn't even notice the change.

I think this project should have been merged with either the Statues or the Ops upgrade (if not both)... Particularly for what it costs. I expect that if we have to spend 200K for something I should be able to easily recognize that something has indeed changed.

Could you possibly post some screenshots of this upgrade? My fleet decided not to waste dilithium anymore for such afterthought projects, but I'm still curious how the transporter "upgrades" look like.

Also, judging from the screenshots, these banners are the exact same as the ones in Hall of Warriors. Which is sad, to say the least.

While FEDs are getting mostly original content, KDF gets objects recycled from other maps. How about something original for the KDF for a change? Like the Mugato carpet and lounge area upgrades shown in promotional pictures? Anything that would be at least somewhat worth these 200,000 dilithium...

As a very tiny fleet of a few people these 200K dil projects are being blown threw. If you know how to get Dil it is very easy to get 8k dil within an hour and refined Per character. Even a basic account thats 16K dil a day, done 7 days a week all month that clears Two of these limited projects easily. I push the majority of BOTH my fleets without issues. Only issue I have is grinding Flarks and even that is not hard with the officer reports daily and doing the hard Mission runs between Defara and nukara.

Tbh, the Limited Time project only came out during last Thursday's patch. If there is a fix, it'll be part of the patch this Thursday with patch notes coming out later today or the morning of the patch.

Tacofangs addressed the matter in this thread: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=5657141#post5657141

That maybe fast but I'm guessing it's untested like 99.9% of the content they shove to Holodeck. I'll believe it's fixed when I see it fixed!

Wow, goes back all the way to the HMS Enterprise, nice :D

That would be U.S.S. Enterprise; as in the U.SS. Enterprise that defeated the H.M.S, Boxer on 5 September 1813. :P

I agree with all three. Its great to have the attention and the option but the fact that it may be just recycled without any extra flair is saddening.
