Get a Bartender Fleet project

250 Dosi Rotgut and 250 Romulan Ale... you're out of your damn mind!

At current Exchange prices, you're looking at ~75M EC for all that booze. (assuming there's even that much available) There really should have been more variety needed for the 'bar', instead of huge quantities of just 2 of very hard to get stuff. This project will probably be in our queue for months! The freakin bartender we get out if this better have access to EVERYTHING!
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Yeah, I have to admit our fleet (which is not a small fleet...) is struggling with this one. I'd have liked to have perhaps had to have those numbers around....100 let's say? Or as you suggest a wider range of liquor needed.

I've had great success it gathering Ale from Romulan missions and through my onboard bartender DOFF quests. I think you can also get R.Ale from confiscating contraband - although I mostly get Dosi from that.

Encourage your fleet to explore those options regularly.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I accidentally lost about 6 Ale while gathering for this project - as I had a tribble hiding in my inventory. 'lil bugger.

The bartender is IDENTICAL to the bartender on your ship (The one everyone has by default).

Do you get access to more/different DOFF Missions? No!!
Do you get access to more/different drinks? NO!!
Does he buy things from you at a better rate than the Replicator? No!!
Does he come with any COSMETIC changes to the area (like bottles in the middle table)? NO!!!!!
Do I see any point to buying him? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
What about the Chef at T4? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

that does seem a bit silly, (the small fleet im with isnt at that point yet, but i believe that we WILL NOT be taking this assignment until something is changed :D)

    Just want to say this..
If the cost of one of the projects is insanely silly.. dont take it..

I mean what use is a bartender on your starbase in the first place? (excluding roleplayer's starbases)

This project is truly ridiculous. I appreciate having a fleet bartender but at this cost it is killing the morale of our fleet. We expect to be grinding out this mission for at least 1-2 months at the rate we're collecting these drinks. Could you at least add the option of cancelling the project ? We would be willing to take the loss of the already contributed marks and items if only to bypass this mission all together. If only I could turn back time :p

I think my fleet might be holding off on the Bartender honestly, just because of the reasons mentioned here. I'd rather wait, gather more of these silly drinks, upgrade more important things, and then when we have nothing else to bother with, than we do this mission.

most of the projects offered have a payout that does not come remotely close to the associated expenses.

200k dilithium for a blurry starscape
200k for plants and columns w/ newsfeeds rotating in such a way as to be unreadable
(most of us read left to right)
200k for tribbles (I drew the line here)

250 ales and rotguts for a bar that offers nothing special is ludicrous.

I spent about 12 million on purple doffs on the exchange and cashed in some of my mission reward doffs to get those three contacts on my starbase. Do they offer anything special? No, not really.

We all see plainly these are bad, the question should be why is Cryptic doing this to us?
In a game where we are starving for something to personalize/customize/call our own they are giving us all the same choices at astronomical prices. We keep funding these projects in the hope that somehow, someday they will start magically being a smart investment. Maybe out of the goodness of the devs' hearts they will offer something they don't yet. We are investing in hopes and dreams.

I have to grind every time I log in now, just for the privilege of buying hope.
I've been holding my real life money tight to see where this was going. I see $7 EV suits, $30 ships etc. and I clutch even tighter. Suit is worth .50 and the ships are worth $3 maybe. You don't want to sell them at fair price though do you? Scarcity is license to gouge. You make me sad.

We don't; we keep funding them because it provides another point of focus for the fleet, one that gives a broader cross-section of the membership something to do than some of the other options have. The only payoff we expect is that as the base grows in services it offers, it will be even more of a focus for the fleet socially.

If it's just about "moar points is moar points", why play an MMO at all?

The requirements are pretty insane for this one and you dont get much in return. Its pretty hard for big fleets, but for small fleets it will really shut down their progress for ages.

it would be fine if there was a place that sells them somewhere (which will now be the best option) or just reduce down the requirements to something more practical like 25 each.

We actually took a vote on this one. About half the fleet thought it would be 'nice to have'. So we are saving up the 'ingredients' first before we start it. Leaders really need to start paying attention to what the requirements of these projects are before just blindly putting them into the que. Especially since there is currently no way to remove a project that is already in the que (unless you have another project to change it to).

You say you're doing this project for the sake of maintaining busywork for your fleet?

Why would you suggest your fleet members utilize a bar that doesn't allow you to vendor loot at the better than replicator rates? I don't have a bar yet, but this was what was mentioned in this thread earlier. Yes, a bar would be quite nice to have but not at reduced functionality versus the bars on Earth. It needs to be special, superior to what comes for free. All of these projects need to be superior given the inputs demanded to create them. In fact, we should be allowed to create new items as fleet specialties.

The ships also, we should be allowed to make design tweaks for the prices. I'm pretty sure even EVE lets player organizations do that. There should be a point system where we can pick how many weapons/consoles/bo slots are on our ships at a price of hull or speed etc. A formula within which we could have some fun. As it is we must spend a fortune in materials AND real life money for a flat one extra console, a bit more hull.

I want imagination, awe, mysteries of space and the trials and joys of colonizing it -- not to play a sucker. If all the base is happens to be a glorified (cookie-cutter) conference room where you can spend the extra rl money for the ship console, I do need to stop.

Oh, suggesting they use it is another question entirely; but OBTAINING it is a point of social focus. It's a group activity, no less or more meaningful than having a social gathering in the base, or any of a number of other activities fleets engage in to build a sense of community.

Helping fleet members advance their characters is certainly an important thing for a fleet to do, but if you want your fleet to be more than just a mutual aid society, you also need a balance of social activities and group goals. Things that benefit nobody singly can benefit everybody together.

I can understand that gathering 250 Romulan Ale might make for an ongoing social event, but that much Ale will be a monumental time sink, and in the meantime that project would hold down a slot. Maybe better to put that one on the back burner, and move on to Projects that will actually benefit the Fleet tangibly.

This is actually my logic for stopping my fleets at Tier II. I do not see further practical rewards for the higher tiers and I have no use for the Fleet gear as well. Especially not with the costs increasing exponentially.

As far as I'm concerned I roll just fine with STF-spec gear and do not need higher tier fleet ships. Fleet patrol escort of doom ftw.

I also skipped all "limited time" special projects and duty officers on starbases. I could finance them all myself but I'd rather channel all those resources to supporting my players directly with special hardware they actually use in-game, not some numerical statistic posted on a starbase page.

Speaking of Fleet Tribbles, since they can't be put on BOFF, what are the chances it will eat your Ale or Dosi as you try and farm it.

The price on this project is insane, what kind of a lunatic came up with it? Romulan Ale, maybe one every 3 Romulan missions, donno what the drop rate is on Elite. Some fleeties and I did the Hobos mission and killed everything on the ground map and only got 1 for a group of 5.

That is sort of like saying "Let's all get together and spend several years and all of our money to build a giant monolith. It will serve absolutely NO useful function. It will not better us in any fashion whatsoever BUT we will be able to all work on it and in the end say we built it." ... I guess if you enjoy building a monument to your inefficiency and lack of vision then have at it but I would rather focus on things that actually matter.

My fleet is in the same boat. We've had the bartender project sitting there unmoving, mocking us for the better part of a week now. In fact all of our projects are presently stalled for lack of doffs or other impossible to obtain components. With all the projects stalled I don't even have a reason to grind the missions anymore. The exchange is contaminated with fleet doffs so I don't dare spend any EC there and I'm sitting on 600 fleet marks that I can't spend on star base upgrades ...so why grind more?

Will somebody please remind me why I'm still playing this game because I'm running out of reasons of my own.

Well 45 Dosi to go but that is still going to take a while and to add insult to injury we are now have the Science Tier 2 upgrade project and Engineering Tier 2 stuck behind this project. We are also quickly coming up on Military Tier 3.

I dont see the issue myself.....A small fleet of 10 players....each only needs a small amount....

A solo fleet it becomes an issue for YOU....but thats the price you pay for being a fleet of one....

My fleet is a fleet of me and my alts and a few select others...I have in the bank 900 dosi and 700 ales........i earned them myself.....grinding alts and daily doffs..

If you are in a fleet of one.......you better have 11 alts if you expect to be able to imrpove your SB in any efficeint manner....and then this wont be an issue
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.

Honestly, my fleet got through it, not easily, but we had some prep work so it wasn't as hard. In turn, when it seemed like we were gonna be getting to a halt, I just took a breath, and finished it by just paying out the EC.

It wasn't fun, it wasn't cheap, but it got done and over with.

I don't say that I finished that project as a means of bragging, only that if someone in your fleet has the money, and they are willing to do so, they should if possible..

Something to keep in mind, a lot of fleets are starting to do this mission, and in a few weeks, most of them should have it done, so the prices might fall down again.

I know that's not very good news, but it's something to keep in mind.

Not everyone is into DOFFing and I only got into heavily recruiting DOFFs after the SB projects started. Heck I sold all my Tulaberries right before this project came up. I've been using all my EC to buying FSM, but now that Dosi has gone down in price I was able to put a serious tend in it, not to mention some of our more heavily DOFFing members that helped out. I still think that this project was more made for well rounded players, a lot more familiar with aspects of the game I had never really wasted my time with. Tried to get into DOFFing only to find that a couple of hours had passed and it was time I could of used to grind Dilithium or have fun in events, more like a bad addiction then actual fun.
