Launcher crashing when trying to log in

plagueocplagueoc Member Posts: 11 Arc User
This just started happening today and I have not been able to figure it out. It also stopped showing my username in the username field at the same time this happened.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled through Steam. I have cleared IE cache and cookies (since launcher is based on it). I can log in just fine from another computer, but I can't figure out what is going on on my game system.

I checked windows updates and AMD for graphics drives, nothing. It has to be something with the game and it content files on my computer.

What content file would cause it to stop displaying my username in the launcher? Also, I can't tab between fields on the launcher either.

Any ideas?

Computer Specs:
i7 870 2.93 GHz
8Gb of RAM PC3 1600
Windows 7 64-bit Ulimate.
AMD Radeon 6950 2Gb

Update. I copied the game from the computer I was able to log in on to my game system. I am getting the same error from a known good copy of the game on this computer. I am my WTF point with this issue. I don't know why this is happening. Please assist.

Another update, if I just run the game client and skip the launch since I know the installation is up to date. I can open the game, but it seem to hang when trying to connect to the account servers.

I went back through turned off the windows firewall which has never been an issue for this game, still not able to connect to the server server.

Just tried remove the Star Trek entries from the windows registry. I did find one that had the userID stored.

But even after that I am still getting no tabbing between fields and no enter to log in, and when I click login it crashes instantly.

still hoping for some feedback here with an idea or two.

This is in the crash and shutdown logs.

    120809 00:11:47 2 Client[0]: GSM_Quit(). Reason: emEditorMain or utilitiesLibShouldQuit()

    Please help.

Ok, I am now trying to access the launcher on my laptop, and it is doing the same thing. UserId doesn't display when opening the launcher and when typing the userID and password and clicking login launcher crashes.

This is complete different hardward from the machine I listed above. So the only common thing is Windows 7 Ultimate.

This laptop is a Dual Core, with 4Gb of ram, and nvidia graphic card.

Please support respond to this issue.

I don't have a attach option to attach the dxdiag file to the post. but I do have them both.

I'm having exactly the same problems: username not showing and it crashes as soon as I press the login button. Any ideas??

Ok, I finally found the cause of my crashing issue, with no help from support.

I use a program called Displayfusion to randomize my desktop wallpaper. I use the beta version of this program as I try to help test. I found that the current beta version 4.1.0 Beta 14 is the cause of the launcher failure. I don't understand why or how this program would cause only this games launcher to fail, but it was. I uninstalled the beta version and went back to the standard version 4.0.1 and both are working fine now. I hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps. I?m using DisplayFusion too for the extra taskbar on my dual monitors. I?ll uninstall the beta and install the regular version. Thanks.

Add STO to the compatibility Setting in Display Fusion worked. I am on a non-Beta version of display fusion and had the crashing bug after updating a couple of days ago. Couldnt figure out what it was till i found this thread. Thanks! I set it to disable everything DisplayFusion does on both the launcher and gameclient EXEs and now I have Display Fusion AND STO working.

    Hope this helps someone.

This is awesome. Thanks guys, for doing the legwork. It was indeed DisplayFusion that was causing issues for me. Disabling it worked, but so did the compatibility fix also posted in this thread. Everything's back to normal again.

Good day. This is my first time playing STO. I installed the game both on my laptop and desktop running Win7 this morning. I had similar experiences, unable to get the launcher to log me in, much less patch -- it would always crash.

I don't use Displayfusion, so I knew that wasn't it. I did all the browser and cache and firewall stuff to no avail. I even played around with the tick boxes in the Options. Still kept crashing, and the ticket window kept dying before I could even get the error number.

Anyway, did some more research, and saw on another forum that some people had TeamViewer running in the background, and disabled it. I disabled TV and voila! Finally get to the patching part. ;)

Just thought I'd share, and I hope this helps. ;)

You rock! I don't have DF either, but I do have TV. Maybe I'll finally be able to play tonight. Thanks!
