There, I said it. I like these Tholian lock boxes. The rewards are cool. They are fun to unlock. I don't feel ripped off.
If you would like to flame me now, go ahead. If you would like to join my camp of lock box gurus, please do so.
This thread may now begin.
I don't unlock the boxes but I have to ask.... what makes them more "Fun to unlock"than the rest of the lock boxes? Have they implemented a mini-game when you use a key to open the box? If not, then I hardly think buying a key and opening a box is fun.

No you just get better stuff, and you're more likely to get it. That's why.
If the Dil to zen rate was lower (yes i know its market driven, but really? 210 dil PER zen and you need 125 zen to get a key) i probably would have an incentive to buy a few keys....but as it is, it can take up to 6-7 days of farming for dil just to get ONE key.
i mean $1.25 for a key is worth it if you get a ship from it, but not so much if you get other stuff that would be easier to get in-game without having to spend money.

You don't remember when it was 365 Dil per C-point do you.
Not to be a pessimist or anything but i still prefer the C-Store or rather Z-Store. You know what your paying for and if its not a gold or some high caliber box its nothing but probably an EV suit you would normally get at the Tholian world. The major prizes are really not nothing to write home about.
Mirror Ships:
Well they are nothing more than what we already pay for normally and will probably get in Fleet Version and the RA ships when first get leveled to Admiral. Its hard to imagine a Sovvie being a science oriented vessel after what we saw what it can do to a Borg Vessel in First Contact. You would think the Sovvie of that Universe would be designed like the Galaxy or the Galaxy X Dreadnought of our era, a tough down in the dirt fighter.
The Star Cruiser seems to makes more sense since the ship looks and operates like a Capital ship to the Sovvies more agile destroyer design. Since when did any Empire care about science skills any way. so turning the Sovvie in a over sized Nova class was dumb at least give it a Phaser Lance to "break the front" so the Star Cruiser with the Admiral, Emperor or Emperor's enforcer to come in and lay down the law.
BTW i did a little experimenting with my Galaxy Class Retrofit. I turned into an almost perfect Mirror Universe version similar to the lock box ships. So any ship no matter which one you have you can have that look, you are only paying for the skin and btw a mirror Galaxy Class is a whole lot cooler if you ask me. Ill later post of what material and patterns to use and colors. So in theory you could have a mirror Voyager, Defiant (later after "Mirror Episodes"), Akira, and Gal X etc.
Tholian ships
The Tholians unlike the Borg and 8472 in the game are actually a threat and can be very deadly if you don't have someone watching your back or stop and peer around the corner for the Bronze Bugs. However the rewards are not that exciting, when was the last time have we even seen one in shows? As i can recall the only ones we have seen are ironically in the ST: Enterprise "In a Mirror, Darkly" Pt. 1 & 2 which is why they are so interested in Terran Technology or have some vendetta against them. However I have yet to see a single Tholian ship that has enough firepower to consider a threat. The I.S.S. Enterprise can easily destroy a Tholian ship heck it had a hard time just disabling which it failed in with outdated plasma cannons while the Prime NX-01 had phase cannons years ahead of the Imperial vessel and as show in "Broken Bow" the plasma cannon sucks compared to the Phase cannon in "Flight or Fight". So what makes you think its worth it in here and the carrier thing is so hoaky it doesn't even belong in Trek.
So that's my too sense about my lock box, of course i will support the game financially but not with a box. btw Galaxy Class retrofit rocks.

I would be very very happy to have an option to turn off box drops. Getting tired of them clogging up my inventory until I can take a moment to delete them.
You don't remember when it was 365 Dil per C-point do you.
oh yeah definently, that would have been good to sell zen/c-point for dil....but still at 200 dil per zen/c-point its hard to convert dil to zen and not run out of it for other stuff.

Supply and demand.
Zen will always cost you quite a bit of Dili, simply because it isn't the way that Cryptic and surely PWE as well would like you to obtain Zen.
I think that they are pretty cool, So far I have had a weaver, 2 star cruisers and 3 assault cruisers. Plus a gajillion xp and fleet mark things and a couple of dozen doff packs. I think I have 5 or 6 of the tholian Doff's as well. I also got loads of the phased tetryon weapons.
My only real disapointment is that I have only joined the game recently and was not able to get one of the ferengi ships from the ferengi boxes. I love collecting the ships and have about 10 different ones now. In the off chance that someone has an unpacked ferengi ship that they wouldn't mind swapping for an unpacked mirror star cruiser, I would love to hear from you.

you can still buy the ferengi lockboxes off the exchange and open those for a shot at it. or just buy it outright on the exchange.

I bought a mirror star cruiser and assault cruiser for 1000000 EC and a tholian doff for 400,000 ec. How much real money did you spend to pull all that stuff from a lock box? I'm curious because for 1400000 EC on on character got the two ships and doff. And I have 100s of millions of ECs. I say this because I didn't spend a real dime on anything.

The supply isn't comming from cryptic, or pwe for that matter, it's comming from people who have spent their hard earned money for Zen and are willing to trade it for dil to save themselves time grinding for it. Consider yourselfs lucky that there are people that are willing to trade something that has monitary value to them, for something they can grind for just as easily as you. - you don't wanna pay their prices, buy your own Zen.
Be lucky they're only charging you a few hundred dil, I won't be letting my Zen go for less then 10 k. I've already got all the dil I need just from playing the game for my enjoyment.
i bought both mirror ships for a grand total of 1 mil ec , why would someone wanna trade a d'kora for one when they can just buy one for dirt cheap? o.O

Because they don't know how the Exchange currently works.
Someone got a Tuffli for 2 Mirror Ships on Tholian Box Release Day.
Everything is possible now and then.

Not sure why I'm getting preached at, I buy Zen every month, I have about every appearance pack and several VA ships, I also have gold membership right now.
The only times I use the dili exchange is when I sell my own Zen, I am simply stating what I think about dili prices, which is as I stated before, off course, they do not directly have a hand in the prices, but does that make it any less true that PWE and Cryptic prefer it for you to buy Zen with money over buying it with Dili?
Well I think after 11 Keys and I have got 4 MU star Cruisers 1 MU Assault Ship and console so I csan telport my ship behind a enemy I can safely say these ones have a few more worthwhile rewards than previous incarnations

Since the Zen has already been paid for, I don't see why they would care one way or the other. The exchange is merely nothing more then a way for one player to trade their Zen to another.
And since you can set your own price for the Zen you are selling, the market price has nothing to do with your sale, if 200+ seems high to you as a seller, go ahead and sell yours for 10 dil each. I frequently undercut the market value on what I sell on the exchange to move it fast, but selling stuff I get by playing the game is a whole different animal to selling
what I bought with cash.
Usually it's the dil farmers whining about the market prices, not the sellers. so if I was preaching at anyone, it's them - you wanna sell your Zen, it's your $$$, knock yourself out. But those that think that they are entitled to my Zen because they sat around all day grinding it for free, in a game I pay for as enjoyment need these reminders.

I simply love those individuals who think no end of themselves...
The system is designed like this so that paying players can get dilithium faster and - paraphrasing your comment - they should feel really lucky that there are those who are willing to devote their precious time to gather dilithium.

considering what, 750 dil per zen is the max, if you wont give up a single zen for less than 10k dil, you plan to never use the exchange.
Poke fun if you want, matters little to me. I have no idea (obviously) about the relative values of different ships. At the moment I have 2 million EC so buying off the exchange is out of the question. I wanted a ferengi ship because I think they look cool and have a dabo wheel inside - how valuable is it? Not the faintest idea... Is it good in combat? Not the foggiest... but it looks funky and has a dabo wheel and would look good in my stable. I like collecting some of the iconic ships - Voyager, Enterprise, Defiant and so on because I like them. Not been playing the game long enough to have any idea about relative values and strengths etc.

And that's okay. Many of us are ready and willing to teach you, without poking too much fun. :P
Just remember what I said, there is a Lockbox Item Trades thread, for stuff like this. Who knows, maybe you'll find someone down on his luck that wants a mirror ship really bad. Or you have something else he wants, or hundreds of other things.

But the Secret of Blue Water might be in one of them!
DAMN!! Those ships DID look familiar after all!:eek::eek:
Wait, can I get a Nautilus retrofit in one of those boxes too?
the Recluse carrier can be found on the exchange. i got one fore 77 mil after selling off the D'kora i got. So he has a chance to get one that way.
since the tholian lockboxes are listed as Common loot, yes they drop a little more often.
