One thing that would be nice is to have them listed as uncommon or something because when teamed last night we found to get boxes to roll we had to set need or greed to common which meant every hypo, common weapon, battery etc was also being rolled on making the game extremely annoying.

Ummm.... no. The boxes showing up in all the need/greed rolls was a huge complaint from the previous lock box. This is was a good move on Cryptics part.

LOL, guess it just shows that you can't please everyone.

I'm going to have to agree that this lockbox is defiantly better than the previous ones. Honestly I think non-Tholians flying Tholian ships is just weird so I don't care about the grand prize. But the other rewards are completely worth that 125 Zen per key.

While I prefer Doff packs that come with prizes, I do think Cryptic finally found that middle ground they were looking for with the lockboxes. And I hope their efforts are rewarded this time around.

The ONLY item I'm interested it the point defense console for KDF. I've been salivating for the missile console from the lobi store since the first time I looked at the store inventory but determined that the price of the keys and low lobi drop rates from earlier boxes put the console out of my price range. I'm afraid to even look at the new lobi store inventory as I fear that console is gone

The old Lobi store inventory has been replaced. But the minimum number of Lobi rewarded per box has been increased. So save your Lobi and hope they rotate the old stock back in? I dunno.

As for the consoles, the exchange is flooded with them. I picked up 7 of them for about 10 mil.

I think this one has been the best so far. the drop rate is better and the loot is quite good.

I think the drop rate is the same actually. Just the fact that they're not set as uncommon rarity means you're only getting to loot them 20% as often. And if you don't see one or other wise miss it, it seems like they drop even less.

Agreed. Tholians do not breath oxygen, are giant buugs, and live on demon class planets. Their ships would ne well ove 200 degrees, and the controls would be made for big insects. Tholian shipps make no sense.

Which is why they specifically said it took the Starfleet Engineers a while to figure out how to make the bridge inhabitable and usable by humanoids without having to wear EV suits.

I am not going to flame at you, but I am glad you like them for me they are still a rip off. They have been doing a better job, but the lobi crystals should be a little better thatn how they are now in the end it is nice that you get something to help feel like you got something worth it in the box, but for now the lobi store is too over priced for me to be opening lockboxes so that I can get something good in return. Although it is nice that they boxes will help pay to keep STO running.

I agree the lobi store is overpriced. But after opening 50 boxes today i'm at just over 500 lobi, got more than 30, (perhaps over 40), doff packs, more mirrior ships than i can shake a stick at, and a consle plus a bunch of tet weapons and fleet credit boosters. It's still not perfect. I'd rather the fleet boosters and weapons only showed with the larger lobi rewards, (so they where the bonus rather than the main), and i agree the lobi store is a littile too expensive. But overall they're thourghlly worth it.

When they recently sold doff pack's that had a chance to have a *bonus* prize in them (bug ship) -- that was something I could live with .

Now , to me it seems that they have taken a step back .
Sure , they added more prizes , but it's back to gambling -- both for large prizes and small .
Having 4 Lobi does not mean having a fixed award worth $1.25 .

When you purchased a Doff pack (with an optional bonus) , you got your moneys worth up front for the Doff pack .
That is what I want to see .
Anything else is just more of the same -- gambling , and even drowning me with "optional prizes" will not make me think any differently .

EDIT: ... although I am very much amused by the folks who think that this is somehow "a better deal" ...

When building the bridge, I had toyed with the idea of putting in some federation AC unit in the corner. I didn't, but my expectation was that your engineering crew (or starfleet's) came over in EV suits, and turned down the thermostat.

I got to go on the on the Weaver's bridge on Tribble. The geometry is very disorienting (at first) and the whole thing is just alien. So kudos on a fantastic job.

Eh, ran out of time, had it all finished up and out the door before I realized I'd missed it.

Out of curiosity, those who've been on the bridge. . . have you found the button yet? I'm concerned many people won't and will be confused/disappointed.

I found it, and it's pretty neat. Still, I haven't found the account bank that was supposed to be added to all bridge interiors. Same goes for Belfast.

As for the boxes, I must admit that I also like these new lock boxes. For something that is inevitable in a F2P title, the rewards are really nice for their price. Best thing is the lack of any consumable items, that I always considered junk. Even the low tier rewards are nice - mini-doff packs happen to be pretty useful now with the introduction of starbases, where common quality doffs are needed in huge amounts. The Tholian doffs are great (traits!), Fleet Credit Boosts are useful, tetryon weapons... so so... but even if I don't like something I can always sell or give it someone else who'll use it. Not to mention there's always Lobi.

Star Trek purists will always moan, but from a business perspective this is a definite step forward and I hope any future lock boxes will keep it like this, or will be even better.

Can't help but say I agree, I may not like the idea of the Tholian ships in the boxes any more than i did the previous ones, but I'm opening for the other bits this time. That's got to be a score.

Yep, the one complaint I have about these lockboxes (and its really more of an exchange complaint) is that its basically impossible to sell the fleet credit bonus items on the exchange because they don't show up under any category and the search all option is currently borked. Granted, the update that messed it up also gave us search by price/unit, so I think its worth it, but I was hoping to sell off most of the credit boosters to help fund buying an Orb Weaver off the exchange.

Put the items in the cstore and I will buy every single one, even if they were character only and I had to buy them all for may main toons.
Kepp putting them in lockboxes and I wont touch them with a 20ft barge poll!

I don't gamble in real life, so I certainly wont with pixels in a game....

Yes, but then people who would be willing to spend $50 trying to get that one super rare ship would only then spend $20 in the c-store. Good for us consumers, but unless that person then spends the other $30 he was originally willing to spend to get the ship on something else in the c-store, then Cryptic lost out on that additional $30 that customer was willing to spend.

And before someone says it is exploitation of the customers - it isn't. Like any other gambling, it comes down to personal responsibility. If you can't afford to spend the money, don't spend the money.

I'm not a huge lockbox fan, but the tholian box is the first box that wasn't opresively obnoxious with the crazy drops and always having to be need/greeded on. (ok, who am I kiddin? Passed on)

This is a game rated teen? Teens do not need a star trek influenced gambling problem by the time they are 18. Well many more would purchase in the c-store that would guarantee income, instead of turning so many of us off to the game and micro transactions. Just call it what it is and let us purchase what we want and give us some rare drops and take the gambling aspect out for the kids, protect that teen rating.

    I agree with you.

I hadn't bothered with lockboxes for a while - I opened a few Cardassian ones when they were dropping, and received a pair of socks and a lump of coal (or the STO equivilent thereof). I didn't bother with the Ferengi ones as a result.

The Tholian lockboxes however, due to the pre-release info, seemed worth trying and I therefore purchased a ten-pack of master keys. Glad I did. Out of those ten boxes I received (may miss bits and pieces as this is all from memory, and over a few days):

Box one: 25000 Fleet credit bonus + 7 Lobi
Box two: Mirror Universe Assault Cruiser + 25 lobi
Box three: Gamma Quadrant mini-doff pack + four lobi
Box four: Gamma Quadrant mini-doff pack + 5000 Fleet credit bonus + 4 lobi
Box five: Phased Tetryon Weapon Pack + 20 lobi
Box six: Mirror Universe Star Cruiser + 4 lobi
Box seven: Gamma Quandrant mini-doff pack + 15 lobi
Box eight: Phased Tetryon Weapon Pack + 4 lobi
Box nine: Tholian doff + 10 lobi
Box ten: Standard doff pack + 20 lobi

So all in all I was/am pretty impressed!

Purchased two additional keys for my second toon and was fortunate enough to receive another mirror Star Cruiser (Sovereign) and a second Tholian DOFF :D

Almost exactly what I got from 10 keys, except instead of a 2nd mirror ship, I got a cool console that teleports my ship to 4km directly behind the enemy ship that I'm fighting. And I think I got more lobis with the boxes with doffs. The tholian doff is useful.

It doesn't feel like gambling when I don't lose. I get something cool and useful with each key. It's more like opening a mystery box that is worth the price I paid, regardless of what it contains (so far).

So you honestly believe that PWE/Cryptic doesn't have sales figures that show people spend more on lockboxes than on ship purchases?

If you believe that, then you must believe they only do lockboxes to annoy their customers, which makes absolutely no sense. If PWE/Cryptic thought they would make as much or more by not having lockboxes and selling everything in the C-store, then they wouldn't have lockboxes.

And the only ones who should be expected to protect kids from the big, bad, video game world are the parents of the kids. Personal responsibility not only includes not spending money you don't have on gambling, it also includes protecting the kids you chose to have.

Dabo is ok it uses a fictional money and is a fictional game, but when you use real money and gambling in a teen environment it equals bad future problems, and if you feel you cannot lose that teaches an even worse lesson.

Just sticking something in here, the lock boxes are better because the drop rate for mirror ships must be significantly higher than the Orb weaver since they are selling for less than 5M on the exchange last I checked.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.
