Wow Season 6 is really shaping up! Oh....it's already launched?
Seriously though, it looks great, but only a handful of things are actually in game and working and I would hold off on the Foundry details until it's actually working. It's kinda like Mcdonalds advertising a new menu while it's still a WIP, albeit almost completed, but not out nonetheless.
There is a 20 man Starbase Fleet Defense. At least it is by private queue. I believe you may be mistaken on this one.
Alright, it looks like I might be. Back on Tribble I remember seeing it say (15 min) behind that fleet action - the minimum number of people required to start. Since 5 person missions say (5 min) I kind of jumped from min to max in my mind. But I checked and yeah, the private queues say twenty, so you're right...
Is it just me or does anyone else get really nervous when every single one of the Nagus' posts are edited out?
And yeah, the tacofangs comment on the dev teams confusion and annoyance at the launch klink trailer is even funnier with this, not really representative of end product, trailer.
Nice trailer. And like most trailers, it doesn't reflect reality too well.
Yeah that is very true. At the least what a trailer imo should do is represent the game to its fullest in the respect of doing it in the frame of the UI not showing to give it a theatrical view.
Although I think with the work that was put into season 6 the content is much better than the trailer imo tbh
It's a really nice trailer and I hope it brings more players into the game. Even though its not 100% representative of the game, at least the game was used to create the main bulk of it. It much better than those SWTOR trailers that are just Lucas CGI wetwork.
And those irritated the hell out of me too, cause when you saw their demonstration videos of actual ingame fighting, it made STO look positively spectacular.
The important difference there though is that with those CGI trailers, like TOR's or Mass Effect's partial live-action trailers, everyone knows they're just watching a bit of story, not actual gameplay footage. When you doctor ingame assets the way Cryptic's had to do for these trailers, to create their fake bridge travel, to put all those starbase elements closer together over planets that aren't there (not that I think that looked good), to let toons look out viewports at them, to show us another action scene in a corridor that isn't there ingame, and so on, that distinction goes out the window. People can't tell the difference. If that mattered to them, what they should have added was a disclaimer at the start, saying the trailer was made with ingame art assets but does not show actual gameplay. They don't want to do that, though.
Cryptic has always persisted on what it could dangle over the horizon, rather than what's already there. Part of that is that we're all very demanding. And part of that is deliberate manipulation on their part. It's not uncommon in the entertainment industry, I'm sure, but Cryptic takes a step further than most. That's been clear as early as back when they had us vote on what uniform options we most wanted to see added to the game, then took that list, started with the least popular option, and worked their way up. The more you ask for an Ambassador class, guys, the longer you'll have to wait for it. Same with your Vesta. And it's the same with these trailers. New players might figure out, in the course of normal gameplay, that the game is not as spectacular as advertised in this way. But the hope is that people will withhold judgement, berate themselves for doubting Cryptic, and have faith that what they saw will make an appearance later on in the game at VA, or get added later on in the season, just long enough to spend a little money on the C-store. That's it. That's the entire plan. And that's why, while it may bother them individually, as a company it just doesn't.

nope, its a good thing had it coming a long time :P
Let me get this straight: tumerboy says the team is "confused and annoyed" by a trailer that features things that arent really in the game, so they make a brand new trailer that starts with bridge travel which isnt in the game? Gotta love double standards

They will ban you for pointing this out. truth is bad for pr.
The fact of the matter is this trailer is someone or some team's personal machinima project in which they stretch the limits of their demo record tool. It is utterly deceptive and bogus when it is presented as something besides machinima. It only does harm to attract folks with a mercedes and give them a trabi.
Please stop being unethical.
I remember the days that Stahl said that we do not charge for new featurs and content.......I wish that wete still true.....I think those days were within the last couple of months.
People getting upset over a trailer for a game that doesn't charge any money to access in order to validate the product for themselves - and potentially get hooked. Hardly the most dubious of advertising.
By the way Cryptic, it might be an idea to actually add in some small print saying this footage is representative of the actual product, a game. Some people may gullibly believe that signing up to STO actually transforms them into digital characters that run around in the game - TRON style.

You are completely missing the point. In another thread tumerboy said that the dev team was "confused and annoyed" that the old KDF trailer showed things that werent representative of actual gameplay. That makes it very ironic when the new trailer they release starts off with something that is also not representative of actual gameplay, and would imply that that dev team is also "confused and annoyed" by this new trailer like they were about the old one.
As for the Tholians on the ship in the trailer, I'm surprised that they didn't use the design they have for the Tholians in their Environmental suits.
(Since they had the Dev Blog where they showed how they had designed the Tholians, and their suits to wear when they were outside their hostile/hot worlds.) http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=599321
But now that I look back, maybe that was just at the artist level, and hadn't been programmed/coded
Maybe they were showing one of the future Season 7 Tholian missions with the Tholians in the ships!
They may have some things that don't appear in game, but I think the trailer did a good job of conveying the wonder of the Star Trek Universe, and some of the Season 6 content.
I liked the trailer.
(And maybe adding a planet to your starbase background will be a special project, like having the glass ceiling as a featured project. Makes sense to me.)
There have been some bumps with season 6, but I'm liking it.

That trailer was something made entirely by Atari from my understanding. When it was released, everyone I knew on the STO team was confused and annoyed at how unrepresentative it was (showing ships bombarding planets, etc.)
If you replace "Atari" with "PWE" and "ships bombarding planets" with "bridge travel" it would sound exactly like he was talking about the new trailer.

Having read the guidelines I don't see how either mine or GrandNagus' posts violates said guidelines.
Commander, Starfleet Corps of Engineers • 7th Fleet
Commanding Officer, U.S.S. HEART OF OAK • NX-1759-B • Odyssey class Star Cruiser ( Lexington Tactical Configuration))

And ruined a perfectly good rant.
This will not be forgotten!
Oh no.
Not for many minutes.
