i think pvp is still very much alive i couldnt imagine playing an mmo without it. And any mmo that i cant match wits with another player in combat just isnt the game for me. It would get boring playing the same 'ole stf's and rerun episodes if i couldnt change things up and have an experience that i constantly had to adapt to like you do in pvp. But thats just my 2 cents worth.

And only one person of those three aformentioned guilds was questionable as to whether or not he used it. and no one in mine, or SOB for that matter)

Actually it's been shown in several studies that competitive gaming's positives far out weigh any negatives that it has, for building social interaction, reflexes, analytic thinking, and math skills, more so even in some cases than programs dedicated and purpose built towards that end. If you think pvp is dying all I really have to do to QED this is point to Halo, COD, and Battlefield 3. Then to further GG this argument, Starcraft... starcrafts following is so huge they have three television networks in S.Korea dedicated to each race in it.
Halo has been proven to produce Psychosis in some people (and was actively played by several people who went "postal")

Also most people DO NOT perceive Comms as Cheats. At least not most people outside of STO. STO is another kettle of fish entirely. As the saying goes, even if a small group of people are swearing up and down the sky tastes like grape jelly doesn't make it true for the majority elsewhere.
I've got a Chevy 4x4 in the back that can say the same thing. It also didn't cost as much as some people's homes And I can service it for about 30 bucks, and a roll of duct tape if worst came to worst.
Chances are if you have Windows you can find a mic that works for you. Not every mic under the sun will make your computer throw a ****fit. Also, if you have a LandRover that's only 6 years old, you can probably afford a new computer, certainly one on a Basic level, (and upgraded with a gfx card) to play STO on, and have 0 issues.
As far as "using only canon goes!" there's a tiny flaw in that. This game isn't canon. Hell most of Trek isn't even canon with itself. Going ballistic because someone's not using the right window patterns on their starships isn't going to change that. Also, frankly as you so nicely pointed out. The Devil Lost in a Fist Fight on Star Trek.. the universe that is Home of the Sissies.
We both know that if there was a federation that was to survive the 8 front war it currently has assuming their enemies are not 10000 percent Stupid, it would min max the hell out of ship design. Not keep putting TRIBBLE on the ships that don't work. In STO's take on that said universe, the old factory loadouts are frankly at best ineffective. Within STOs own canon, logically you have to assume if the federation is to survive, it would have to improve the mechanics of a starship.
By NOT running superior loadouts, you should be breaking your own sense of immersion. (also some of us don't run 'canon" energy type because frankly it's brokenly OP, secondly it's retardedly expensive to purchase said weapons seriously look at the price of Phasers, now compare that to Anything Else.)

You made suggestions, which are so clearly a Rag Post that it's rather sad. You want Comms to disappear because people work together. You hate Fleets because people sit down and maximize their ship's outputs, and then have the audacity to go play together. Which, to my knowledge there are very few of them that point to any long term damage, and in most of those they even acknowledge these are extreme outlier cases where the subject was already beyond being mentally balanced.
No you didn't. Not once did you offer a counter argument against the point you raised. You carried it like it was your own. To further debunk the Secretive Myth, I spend about half my time in game anymore in Tells with people that want help. In that regard, my Cruiser and Sci threads have brought it to the attention of people as a whole that people like me really are willing to help. I really don't mind spending so much time in tells, at first it was a little overwhelming but I've learned how to adapt to it. All you have to do to get a more effective ship, is Ask someone. If I can't help you I might be able to find someone that can, unless you are totally dead set on something that is so grossly ineffective that it just can't work.
My original Cruiser thread has over 50k views. the only reason I reset the thread wasn't due to all the questions, but due to a horrible forum migration on PWE's part that prevented me from being able to update any older posts with current info. It is my full intention to keep my help desk threads current as possible. It sucks that in some ways I have to start those threads over again but they'll recover eventually.
As far as willing to believe the one with less to gain. Do you really think this would change anything? I can go grab 4 guys in Halo reach, play with them for a week privately. We could then take to the public match making, play DMR only matches (meaning we have the same stuff as everyone else, no exceptions) and we would walk out with minimal deaths, and a slew of Wins. If anything pugs have more to gain with everything as it stands right now (well not exactly.. sci resists need to be toned back to open up build diversity.. by the way this is NOT something that is our fault. we told them what the current setup would do and we were right. They did it anyway), by having access to SO MUCH information and build diversity. Especially if they would just, take a moment to ask, rather than spend time making Rag Styled Forum Posts they could easily improve their game.
In an ideal universe (where the community was Gamers and not guys that at best have Wii gaming experience before this game), the pugs would ask questions even more frequently than they do now, and we could help them with their builds. Eventually the only reason we'd be winning is due to frequency that we play together, instead of just having builds so out and out superior that we can handle 2 pugs at a time, solo.
If we were all evil and cruel people, why would we go out of our way to make threads like the Escort thread, the Carrier thread, the Science (both of them), and Cruiser threads? Why would we leave vent channels open for Anyone to join either to get help, or find a team, or start a pvp academy to help the new guys? We really don't want Dominance Forever, most of us got bored of that and left sto. (4 of my premades did that, QEW did that, most of TSI, a host of Pandas, the 300 are long gone, and countless others. they all left because they got BORED of winning all the time). Those of us that remain, do so because we still have friends here, still love the -core- gameplay, and realize if we want to keep the fire going we have to stoke it, and nurture it.
And yet it's still a universe where they can't even stop a raging counselor loose on their ship. This is part of what I mean about the universe not making a damn bit of sense anyway, and that people that take 'canon' seriously need to really re-examine their priorities, especially in an MMO, let alone one created by Cryptic of all people.
That is one of the advantages of where I live. You can get a hell of a nice house around here for 100,000. (and a comfortable one for a single guy like me in the mid 40s), with an actual yard. Not a lot, I'm talkin Acre or more of property. This is partly why I haven't left the area I live yet. Even if it is lacking in beachfront property, frankly the mountains aren't even a ten minute drive from my house, and I have access to some of the best outdoors in the country. I can live without beach bunnies, when I get year round enjoyment and low and comfortable cost living.

To the point, pvp probably is about as popular now as it was just before f2p launch. More vets have left, even lots of newbies from f2p have left. To blame the players is silly. PvP is fail in this game because of cryptic, because despite Stahl's words that "pvp is important to pwe" and "we can't expand in Asia without good pvp, therefore we will have good pvp:", Stahl still canned every idea Gozer put forth to try to save it. THAT is why pvp in STO is fail.

To further debunk the Secretive Myth, I spend about half my time in game anymore in Tells with people that want help. In that regard, my Cruiser and Sci threads have brought it to the attention of people as a whole that people like me really are willing to help. I really don't mind spending so much time in tells, at first it was a little overwhelming but I've learned how to adapt to it. All you have to do to get a more effective ship, is Ask someone. If I can't help you I might be able to find someone that can, unless you are totally dead set on something that is so grossly ineffective that it just can't work.

My original Cruiser thread has over 50k views. the only reason I reset the thread wasn't due to all the questions, but due to a horrible forum migration on PWE's part that prevented me from being able to update any older posts with current info. As far as willing to believe the one with less to gain. Do you really think this would change anything? I can go grab 4 guys in Halo reach, play with them for a week privately. We could then take to the public match making, play DMR only matches (meaning we have the same stuff as everyone else, no exceptions) and we would walk out with minimal deaths, and a slew of Wins. If anything pugs have more to gain with everything as it stands right now (well not exactly.. sci resists need to be toned back to open up build diversity.. by the way this is NOT something that is our fault. we told them what the current setup would do and we were right. They did it anyway), by having access to SO MUCH information and build diversity. Especially if they would just, take a moment to ask, rather than spend time making Rag Styled Forum Posts they could easily improve their game.

In an ideal universe (where the community was Gamers and not guys that at best have Wii gaming experience before this game), the pugs would ask questions even more frequently than they do now, and we could help them with their builds. That is one of the advantages of where I live. You can get a hell of a nice house around here for 100,000. (and a comfortable one for a single guy like me in the mid 40s), with an actual yard. Not a lot, I'm talkin Acre or more of property. This is partly why I haven't left the area I live yet. Even if it is lacking in beachfront property, frankly the mountains aren't even a ten minute drive from my house, and I have access to some of the best outdoors in the country. I can live without beach bunnies, when I get year round enjoyment and low and comfortable cost living.

And you're right, when (and if, because it hasn't been closed down in 2.5 years of intentional demeaning neglect), it certainly won't be your fault. It also won't be the communities fault. While this is my first MMO, I'm not a stranger to pvp games, and this pvp community is one of the best. i think pvp is still very much alive i couldnt imagine playing an mmo without it. And any mmo that i cant match wits with another player in combat just isnt the game for me. It would get boring playing the same 'ole stf's and rerun episodes if i couldnt change things up and have an experience that i constantly had to adapt to like you do in pvp. But thats just my 2 cents worth.

If they have sound on their computers, (which I imagine you do if you are playing a videogame, as half of the sensory input you get in videogames is frankly audio as well as visual) There are numerous walkthroughs and instructions to find your way onto someone's server. Case in point I have a thread that I think is still on the front page on how to not only find raidcall, but download it as well, along with a pretty step by step guide on how to use it. I'm quite polite as well in it. Using Vent (vent being the archaic piece of garbage that it is that people only use for tradition's sake) is abit more complicated, but it's not so much more difficult than even simply installing a game and putting in a product key that you could not simply figure it out on your own.
And you still dodge the point, people WILL accuse regardless. I once had an entire Archive dedicated to storing such accusations, and hate messages. Mostly delivered by the pveers that think they can pvp, and would again rather Whine than Step It Up.

Chances are if you have Windows you can find a mic that works for you. Not every mic under the sun will make your computer throw a ****fit. Also, if you have a LandRover that's only 6 years old, you can probably afford a new computer, certainly one on a Basic level, (and upgraded with a gfx card) to play STO on, and have 0 issues.
As far as "using only canon goes!" there's a tiny flaw in that. This game isn't canon. Hell most of Trek isn't even canon with itself. Going ballistic because someone's not using the right window patterns on their starships isn't going to change that. Also, frankly as you so nicely pointed out. The Devil Lost in a Fist Fight on Star Trek.. the universe that is Home of the Sissies.
We both know that if there was a federation that was to survive the 8 front war it currently has assuming their enemies are not 10000 percent Stupid, it would min max the hell out of ship design. Not keep putting TRIBBLE on the ships that don't work. In STO's take on that said universe, the old factory loadouts are frankly at best ineffective. Within STOs own canon, logically you have to assume if the federation is to survive, it would have to improve the mechanics of a starship.

To further debunk the Secretive Myth, I spend about half my time in game anymore in Tells with people that want help. In that regard, my Cruiser and Sci threads have brought it to the attention of people as a whole that people like me really are willing to help. I really don't mind spending so much time in tells, at first it was a little overwhelming but I've learned how to adapt to it. All you have to do to get a more effective ship, is Ask someone. If I can't help you I might be able to find someone that can, unless you are totally dead set on something that is so grossly ineffective that it just can't work.
My original Cruiser thread has over 50k views. the only reason I reset the thread wasn't due to all the questions, but due to a horrible forum migration on PWE's part that prevented me from being able to update any older posts with current info. It is my full intention to keep my help desk threads current as possible. It sucks that in some ways I have to start those threads over again but they'll recover eventually.
As far as willing to believe the one with less to gain. Do you really think this would change anything? I can go grab 4 guys in Halo reach, play with them for a week privately. We could then take to the public match making, play DMR only matches (meaning we have the same stuff as everyone else, no exceptions) and we would walk out with minimal deaths, and a slew of Wins. If anything pugs have more to gain with everything as it stands right now (well not exactly.. sci resists need to be toned back to open up build diversity.. by the way this is NOT something that is our fault. we told them what the current setup would do and we were right. They did it anyway), by having access to SO MUCH information and build diversity. Especially if they would just, take a moment to ask, rather than spend time making Rag Styled Forum Posts they could easily improve their game.
In an ideal universe (where the community was Gamers and not guys that at best have Wii gaming experience before this game), the pugs would ask questions even more frequently than they do now, and we could help them with their builds. Eventually the only reason we'd be winning is due to frequency that we play together, instead of just having builds so out and out superior that we can handle 2 pugs at a time, solo.
If we were all evil and cruel people, why would we go out of our way to make threads like the Escort thread, the Carrier thread, the Science (both of them), and Cruiser threads? Why would we leave vent channels open for Anyone to join either to get help, or find a team, or start a pvp academy to help the new guys? We really don't want Dominance Forever, most of us got bored of that and left sto. (4 of my premades did that, QEW did that, most of TSI, a host of Pandas, the 300 are long gone, and countless others. they all left because they got BORED of winning all the time). Those of us that remain, do so because we still have friends here, still love the -core- gameplay, and realize if we want to keep the fire going we have to stoke it, and nurture it.
And yet it's still a universe where they can't even stop a raging counselor loose on their ship. This is part of what I mean about the universe not making a damn bit of sense anyway, and that people that take 'canon' seriously need to really re-examine their priorities, especially in an MMO, let alone one created by Cryptic of all people.
That is one of the advantages of where I live. You can get a hell of a nice house around here for 100,000. (and a comfortable one for a single guy like me in the mid 40s), with an actual yard. Not a lot, I'm talkin Acre or more of property. This is partly why I haven't left the area I live yet. Even if it is lacking in beachfront property, frankly the mountains aren't even a ten minute drive from my house, and I have access to some of the best outdoors in the country. I can live without beach bunnies, when I get year round enjoyment and low and comfortable cost living.

To the point, pvp probably is about as popular now as it was just before f2p launch. More vets have left, even lots of newbies from f2p have left. To blame the players is silly. PvP is fail in this game because of cryptic, because despite Stahl's words that "pvp is important to pwe" and "we can't expand in Asia without good pvp, therefore we will have good pvp:", Stahl still canned every idea Gozer put forth to try to save it. THAT is why pvp in STO is fail.

You wouldn't be taking down any of my students for long, I'm afraid. My "kids" as they were have gone on to successful pvp careers in sto. The goal, is they eventually help other people who ask. And people do. That's why the ques have never completely died. Because the knowledge of pvpers is passed on before the pvpers leave. In some ways that's exactly what I'm doing, I'm passing on my knowledge the best ways that I can before I too move on to new games and new challenges.
Pvp and pve are already virtually on 2 different servers there is literally only one open pvp instance in the game, and outside of that the ques. The game exists on a PvE Server. You couldn't make it more not pvp, unless you removed ques from the game, which apparently is your aim.
