STF critting fix got un-fixed?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
In the STFs, it used to be a problem with borg one-shotting players...

...this was "fixed" by making the borg unable to score critical hits...

But now, the borg are critting like crazy again!

Was in CSE yesterday, and one of the borg raptors one-shot me with an un-buffed plasma torpedo. He applied about 33k to my poor BoP, with a potential damage of (47000).

Next run was KASE, where the gate gave me about 55000 (100000), also with an unbuffed plasma torpedo.

Notice: These were un-buffed torpedoes. NOT high yields that can be shot down. There was NO way to avoid getting one-shot by these.

Notice: High yield torpedos also proved to be a guaranteed one-shot, no matter how many resists I put up, but these are less of a problem as they can be shot down.

Guess the patch got un-patched... :(

I've been taking some pretty hefty one-shots in a BoP lately, as well. It sure doesn't help that my total hull is significantly less than the other ships some of my other captains fly, but I'm not sure what I can do about some of the high numbers I believe I got hit with.

Seconded/Thirded. My Kar'fi was getting one-shot yesterday through two Armor consoles which hasn't happened in weeks, and it was DEFINITELY not a heavy targettable torp... I always have an instance of Gravity Well or Tykens Rift running when I'm on my Kar'fi, which kills the big torps as they launch (the cube can't shoot itself, but tends to die just as fast due to being shieldless plus all the fighter spam).

    Looks like something got reverted.

I havent been around for a month or so, but now the borg seems weaker. they barely kill me now (even with them invisible torps), and they die faster.

however there are some occasions, when I have 50%+ shields and full health, and I get oneshot killed (and shields are rerouted to the side wich gets the crit)

You complain about 33k? This hit me last Saturday:

[Combat (Self)] Tactical Cube deals 158384 (255933) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Torpedo - Heavy III.

I saw it very shortly before it hit me, I didn't see it flying the 5km before that...

That is a lot of damage. Still, this is not a Critical hit. If it was, it vould say "...damage(critical)..." , and also it can be avoided by keeping distance and watching for heavy torps. My issue is that the Borg have started landing Critical hits again, and with weapons that can not be countered. Meaning that when you get attacked, you die. No way of avoiding it at all. No counter, no resists, no heals. :(

I avoid most of these invisi torp by staying on top or bottom of cube, for gate I stay close behind it the torp seem to always come from the front. If I go frontal, I always use scatter volley. I fly a tac escrot retrofit, so when they get me I always die, so I just try to stay away from where torpedo can be shoot at me and I won't have to many of these 1 shoot deal.

The worst is cure space elite when the Neg'var and those Raptor get loose. Raptor always seem to shoot one in my backside when I take on the Neg'Var which usually either kill me or seriously damage my ship.

I've seen a couple of 200K+ crits in CSE lately with un-buffed plasma torps. Even my eng toon flying her space whale oddy has been having trouble staying in one piece :o
Lots and lots of 50k-60k non crit unbuffed hits flying around too. That's enough to knock out escorts and most cruisers in one go!
The borg damage has been utterly crazy lately. Lots of tanks have been dropping like flies and if the tanks are dropping how the heck are the escorts going to fare?

OK, FWIW since I made my previous post in this thread I've died due to having a shield facing down and doing nothing to handle incoming torpedo fire. I don't believe any of them were crits.

They may in fact be critting again, but as I don't run anything to parse my logs I can only comment on what I have seen in the past couple days. And it's not like the BoP was a good ship for me to jump in and comment based upon, haha. Not so difficult to one-shot in elite.

edit: I guess all I am doing here, really, is refuting my own anecdotal observation with a contrasting anecdotal observation, as I have no numbers captured or logs to post.
In either case, I'd be interesting in knowing if we're just crazy or if they are critting again.

I thought maybe I was imagining things or just having an off day. Yesterday I was getting pummeled by birds of prey in cure elite and blown up repeatedly. BoPs!!

Seems like they may have secretly dialed up the damage server-side.

Its happening a lot lately, I experienced it twice yesterday once in an escort, but worse still on a LRSVR whilst ablative armour was active so one shotted whils having 900% dammage resist applied, there is a problem.

    Seconded.

I think whatever fix Cryptic applied to the cubes is working. However, I don't think they applied the same fix to the other ships in the STFs. Result: I'm now more afraid of Spheres, BOPs and Raptors than I am of the dreaded Cubes.

If they would accept vidieo, I have visual proof of the crit is back.

Shields at full, Ablative Resist, Aux2StructualIntegrity-2, RotateShieldFrenquency,EPS Transfer and RedMatterCapacitor all running and I was hit for 84374k damaga from a Plasma Torpedo. No I was not at a dead stop in tractor beam. I was at full throttle taking minor damage from a Nanite Sphere before I got poped by a Combat Sphere off the port quarter.

It just so happens I was Demo-Recording this run. I just did a Full Respec and took my Galaxy-X out for a test run. I wanted to see the procs of the O.M.E.G.A. working for the energy wake and how my ACCvsDEF of the Borg was. I could not get a Crit the whole run but they did.

This could be likely. I checked my combat log after getting killed, and twice I saw the killing blow listed as "damage(critical)". Once from a KA gate, and once from a Borg Raptor.

Hello --- I will ask the n00b question.. "How do we submit a bug/request to Cryptic?"

I have been "one shot, your dead" out of the blue by various Borg ships and gates the last couple of days as well. These were not heavy, plasma torps either.

    thx

Ehh...uhm... you have to show up in person at Cryptic Studios, with your complaint in 3 copies.

No, we used to have a "report bug" function in game... but they never read the reports...then it broke...then it was fixed, just to break again... then for a while we should submit in various webpages, then we should stop doing that... and now noone knows... :p

So we rage and rant in the forum, hoping that some dev will happen to notice it...

Also, this thread should possibly have been moved to the Bug section of the forum, now that I know I'm not alone in experiencing this issue. http://forums.startrekonline.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69

yep the borg have adapted alright, invisible torps or something, I switched back to a cruiser for it had bigger hull and still getting oneshot from nothing that I copuld see.

Only just started doing borg missions and well can't finish'em on hardest diff. everyone quits out leaving fools like myself to fight'em alone.

I have submitted a report to them, please all do the same and maybe they will fix this problem more quickly than some of you state.

Sadly with the forum revamp, the link to the archived post is fail. :frown:
"Susse-thrai" had been the name bestowed upon her, half in anger, half in affection, by her old crew on Bloodwing; the keen-nosed, cranky, wily old she-beast, never less dangerous than when you thought her defenseless, and always growing new teeth far back in her throat to replace the old ones broken in biting out the last foe's heart.

    Hilarious dude.
You guys talk about insta-kills (or invisa-crits or invisa torps, take your pick) as though ita a bug. It isnt. Its Gozers bruised ego manifesting itself. He wants to make scenarios that are unbeatable. When people suceed, he gets mad and makes it harder.

Yep. I left game for a month and a half while I was overseas..come back...

my Voquv gets dropped from 100% shield/armor to 5% armor and no front shield by a single plasma torpedo from a borg raptor in an elite stf. Combat log shows the plasma torpedo (not 'heavy') doing 100k+ or so damage.

The fact that a TAC escort is widely considered the most powerful PVE ship is going to play against you here. They are going to make PVE harder. Your success warping the class balance is going to make the DEVs change the games difficulty level. Stuff like this makes me wonder if you might want that power drain carrier to shut stuff down for you now? Doesn?t a nice dedicated healer ship seem useful to keep your shields full? I played STF elites literally nonstop all weekend. I played them for a few hours every day last week. I flew cruisers with my engy, tacs and cruisers on my tac, and a carrier on a sci. I got one shoted exactly 1 time that I wasn?t sure about. I figure there is a borg bug affecting their critical hits based on that one hit I took that reduced a buffed fresh oddy to dead in a single hit. I also suspect that season 6 and the coming npc buffs are going to have an impact on PVE play that is going to make people want something besides raw DPS.

I have a very very strong suspicion that, intended or not, one of the patches reverted a lot of the system changes. Perhaps when they started updating the much older redshirt build, they forgot that it didn't have all the updates that were installed on the holodeck build.

Certainly the borg are now draining shields in seconds again, even though I'm fully specced into it's resists.

Also FBP seems to have reverted to being buffed by tactical captain buffs like it was prior to it's fix.

    A very strong suspicion indeed.

Actually no, I don't suspect, I'm sure of it.

I do know the Borg are critting like Mad again on their heavy torps. Probablyt at a 9/10 ratio with crits to non crits. I also know the Invisi Torps are still about and one shotting people.

I had just respawned in an infected space elite and as I'm flying back into the battle I take the time to toss Science Team and Hazard emitters onto a friend backing out of combat for a moment to heal. He got up to about 73% hull with shields above the halfway point when he exploded. No torpedoes (that we could see) no DoT, he just exploded and I was close enough to suddenly get plasma fire. We were both outside the Tac Cubes range.

So yeah. Borg are critting like mad and the non-existent Invisa-Torps are still annoying.

As it was feared, the Borg has again proven their superiority. It is just a matter of time...before all our defense and offense capablities will become inferior at some point.
