Was actual Dev time spent on this?

An obvious joke, but still; was actual development time spent on this? And did CBS *actually* approve this being put in game?

    Don't confuse 'Development time' with 'Developer Time'

    The difference is subtle, but Development time is time that it allocated to developing the game - i.e. work time.

    Developer time is time spent by a developer, but this could equally be in their lunch, after work, on their break.


    I suspect it's the latter.

    Just under 3 weeks if you consider kickoffs, design discussions, concept art, and 3 iterations of ship customizable warp oars.

    Or jamz jamz just knocked it out on his own time for fun.

    Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

    What a Dev does in their spare time is none of our business, so thats cool. That said, actually putting it in the game is basically making fun of the people who asked for a T5 connie. So if you guys want to make fun of players in such an official way...ok. Did CBS actually approve this being put in game?

    it is only if you see it that way...

    after all, people could have seen Galaxy Quest as a insulting parody of Star Trek, but they didn't. they saw the affectionate part of the parody.

    and while this joke isn't exactly affectionate, it's not insulting either. it's simply a joke, so it's better to laugh and move on

    Actually have to agree with this one. that said im so tired of asking for my warp powered row boat that i just dont care anymore LOL

    Depends on who labeled it a Tier 5 Connie. Was that a player contrivance, or a developer gaff?

    Either way, my feewings aren't hurt by this. On the contrary, it's one of Jam Jamz' long-running gags, starting with his (former) forum avatar. Now it's just in 3D.

    I highly doubt that it's part of their IP (I don't recall it from the show), and that seems to be where CBS has the most say -- what IP they will allow to be used, not what made-up easter eggs can't be introduced.

    We have been told in the past that CBS has to approve everything that goes in the game, including Cryptic's own designs.

    Sure... if they're meant for actual use in-game. Making testing placeholders that never get used in live assets is nothing new to game development. I loved looking at test junk in another MMO's game files :)

    Come on. It's a joke.

    This from the IP that gave us Space Lincoln, et al. Probably doesn't belong on holodeck, but you can be sure I'd be saluting with fireworks if I saw this on tribble.

    On a side note, I jokingly asked Jamz for such a ship when he popped onto TTS the other day. Well played.

    So what if they didn't... Has it somehow destroyed your enjoyment of the game?

    My only problem with it is that I found it to be rather lacking... it needs oars. :P

    So we have been told in that past that the reason X ships cannot be added is because CBS has not approved them. We have also been told that CBS has to approve all of the ships that go into the game. However we have already been told this was not supposed to be in the Foundry, so that point is moot now.
