Hi,

I used to like that your forum name was the same as your @handle - it meant I could see someone post an interesting comment on the forum and chat to them in game. It meant if I saw someone speaking about a foundry mission I could easily find it and check it out and other missions by that author....

I feel that this has been lost - is there anyway to go back to linking your forum names to your @handles? I feel as the community is fragmented without it!

You see that's just it DecadeComplete - I've seen your handle around the forums, I kind of feel connected as part of the same community - this new name of yours I don't know...... don't feel the same sense of community........

Oh I'm sure I'll learn it - but not to the same extent that was possible...

I think those that linked accounts before the forced merger got to keep their handles.

I know i kept mine and i linked mine several months ago.

Edit: Or at least had a better chance at it if they set up the forum handle for their PW account to have the same one as their Cryptic account.

That wasn't it in my case...

I didn't do anything to change my account till we were forced too last week.

And I've never had a PWI account till now.

That may be the reason for me, though I'm not positive about that.

You've got your cryptic @handle in game for the time being, but don't be to surprised if that changes in the next couple of months.

When you made your PWE account, you were given the opportunity to set a display name separate from the log in name. That's how I kept mine. It wasn't too well hidden, I had linked my accounts successfully the weekend before PWE said anything about it and still managed to keep my old handle.

See, I worry. I haven't linking my account yet, but I set up a PWE account a while ago... I hear it'll automatically search my emails and link them.

Though, strangely... I think I like this user name better.

That's because they reserved your @name for you. According to Branflakes, a while back they went and set up everyone's @name with a PWE account UNLESS A) You were one of those people that chose the same login and display name, or B) Someone else already had your login OR display name.

In order to link accounts, you will have to have a PW account.

Many (most) people, take their usual @handle/forum name/current login, and use that as their new PW name/login as well.

The problem is that since PW doesn't let you set your display name (what we actually see in the forum) to be the same as your login name (for security I assume), if you make a PW account using your old Cryptic login, you've now locked yourself out of using that name as your display name.

Instead, if you haven't linked yet, when you go to set up your PW account, make your account name something different than what you've been using. Then, set your DISPLAY NAME to your old Cryptic account name/@handle/forum name, then link.

That should preserve your forum name.

Hope that's helpful. Sorry to those that screwed up (myself included)

So anyone who didn't know going into making their account is boned , maybe a heads up about this before the change would of been nice. There seems to be no problem notifying us when there is something new to spend money on the the C-Store.

It didn't work for me. Though customer support claimed that there was another guy using the same name somewhere on the Perfect World. Could be, could still be a frack-up, I don't know.

    Ahhh...

    That's what did it...

Having never set up a PW account before, when it asked for an Acct Name, I used something different from my forum handle...

Just dumb-luck on my part, didn't even occur to me to do it on purpose.

At this rate, the only thing we can do to save our Identities is put something in our Sig IDing ourselves with our old Cryptic Name.

I just hope PW lets us keep our Cryptic Account in STO, else things will be thrown into chaos as we wouldn't know know who is who.

I personally hope our in-game @name never becomes our forum display name. I get comments in-game all the time asking me about my old name. I'd prefer to keep it that way.

I also want to note that other PWE forums allow you to post as your in-game character on the forums. We're actually trying to get this tech into the STO forums, so, for example, I would show as "Brandon@PWE_BranFlakes". This is something are working on, and trying to do, but there is no ETA on time to implementation.

How about a compromise? Let us use our in-game characters, WITHOUT showing the @handle.

Won't work, in-game character names aren't unique, two people could have the same in-game character name and the forums won't allow two posters with the same name.

This could also cause confusing with who you think your talking to, as when they decide to use a different character as their "Forum Face".

Example: The Grand Nagus is an Andorian....

I would agree, except for the fact that many players have more than one character. So essentially the possibility would exist to post as more than one person at a time. Needless to say the problems that could cause

That's actually allowed in other PWE games, they have no problems with that. I guess cause since it's F2P there's nothing stopping you from just creating another account to post to yourself even without letting you switch characters.

I think it would be nice if our STO (and CO when it's 'converted) would SHOW UP on the PWE games profile/user account page (on their grey themed site that many links take us to).

I currently am seen as having no characters in any PWE games (of which I assume STO is now one of those games) - yet I have 2 Level 50 Fed and 1 Level 50 KDF, which I've all played many tikmes since the site update back on 6/20/12. (I also have multiple CO chraracters but that site has yet to be fully 'updated'.)

That would be a great solution to our issue... however, CS told they CANNOT change my forum name, so is that the "new tech" you are waiting on?

So, let me see if I understand this...

If implemented, I would be able to post as G'eek@bluegeek or Rhyannha@bluegeek, and could switch between the two?

And if I could switch, would the forum badge/avatar also change with it? As in, G'eek has a Federation badge and Rhyannha displays a KDF badge?

THAT would be cool, if so.
