To be clear, you are saying our character and in-game @name could be our display name? If so, this would indeed be a great compromise.

This is what we're working towards, yes

I may be wrong, in fact its probable as we are talking about something 3 years ago now, but..
I thought that our forum name and our account name (@name) had to be different.
In fact i remember being told to change it and having to phone up some service desk.
Have i got the wrong end of the stick here or....?

So, what happens in the case of multiple characters? Will you be able to login aseach individual one with multiple signitures, profiles etc, or will they share?

EDIT: Just read through the rest of the forum, and realised I misunderstood the idea.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what the hey, will we be seeing some integration with CORE at some point? I mean, whats the point of linking to it on the site if theres nothing for STO players there?

So, let me see if I understand this...

If implemented, I would be able to post as G'eek@bluegeek or Rhyannha@bluegeek, and could switch between the two?

And if I could switch, would the forum badge/avatar also change with it? As in, G'eek has a Federation badge and Rhyannha displays a KDF badge?

THAT would be cool, if so.

Cool! So I can log on with Bob when I'm being serious and Bob of Borg when I'm trolling.

Agreed. Need to be able to STO characters / fleets to our profile, and preferrably link those characters back to being displayed on the forums.

I also want to note that other PWE forums allow you to post as your in-game character on the forums. We're actually trying to get this tech into the STO forums, so, for example, I would show as "Brandon@PWE_BranFlakes". This is something are working on, and trying to do, but there is no ETA on time to implementation.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

This is the best forum news I have seen since the Great Forum Disaster.
Please do get that tech into the STO forums...

Brandon, I know we've never fully seen eye to eye in the past, but if this Tech isn't just vaporware and we're given the option to set our @handle as our Forum Display name, You might of just unlocked the eye-2-eye achievement <3

I think those that linked accounts before the forced merger got to keep their handles.

I know i kept mine and i linked mine several months ago.

Edit: Or at least had a better chance at it if they set up the forum handle for their PW account to have the same one as their Cryptic account.
I did it when it was forced on us and I've still got the same name.

However, I had to set my account name to something else so I could keep Radkip as my displayed name. Which I don't mind, I have about 4 account names I cycle through all across the internet.

I still haven't figured out how I managed to keep mine...

You offered to let PWE executives pass over your bridge freely without eating them or their children, and without giving you gold.
That's actually allowed in other PWE games, they have no problems with that. I guess cause since it's F2P there's nothing stopping you from just creating another account to post to yourself even without letting you switch characters.

What?? Wouldn't that make it easy to do some serious trolling then? Someone with 10 accounts could post as 10 different people in the same thread

I don't know if you've seen some of the "visitors" we had from other PWE games once the site merged that weren't here to play STO at all, but trolling is what they do. And yes, even now you can create 10 free to play accounts and post as 10 different people in the same thread. The difference is, if you post as your character name, people know who to ignore in the game ;)

In order to link accounts, you will have to have a PW account.

Many (most) people, take their usual @handle/forum name/current login, and use that as their new PW name/login as well.

The problem is that since PW doesn't let you set your display name (what we actually see in the forum) to be the same as your login name (for security I assume), if you make a PW account using your old Cryptic login, you've now locked yourself out of using that name as your display name.

Instead, if you haven't linked yet, when you go to set up your PW account, make your account name something different than what you've been using. Then, set your DISPLAY NAME to your old Cryptic account name/@handle/forum name, then link.

That should preserve your forum name.

Hope that's helpful. Sorry to those that screwed up (myself included)

THIS is why it would have been nice to have a "head's up" and a FAQ to guide us through to minimize identity changes. I lost the display name that matches my in-game @handle. I was shocked at the way this PWE Forum Change was handled. I know we in the forums whine A LOT and can be very critical, but the fact there was no warning was simply shocking.

I am not so mad about that as much as I want in-game mail to again be available via the site and the friends list back so I can take breaks at work and communicate via E-Mail and see who is logged on when I am not able to be in game. Site Mail is best for batch deleting of E-Mail AND allows E-Mails with more than a measly 2048 characters, which is important when sending out a Fleet Mission, Vision, and Values E-Mail to new recruits - as well as E-Mail reply visibility and copy and paste functionality.

Please consider restoring these valuable tools as soon as feasibly possible or acknowledge the plan to do so.

So what you're saying is that even though you have reserved my @handle and old forum name (not my login name) I'll never be able to use that again on the forums as my username? Then I want to ask, why on earth did you reserve our usernnames in the first place? I want my old name (simale) back.
