C'mon Is It Really That Big a Deal

dakkidedakkide Member Posts: 0 Arc User
While a heads up would have been great. Is it really that big a deal that Perfect World brought their company CRYPTIC, into their family? It had to happen sometime. and it took a whole 5 minutes for me to bring 2 Cryptic accounts and my 2 Forsaken World (Perfect World) accounts together. Also had to happen that they would bring Zen and Cpoints together. Folks who know me know that I would be the first to give Cryptic the bashing if it was their fault, but this was defiantly an corporate decision and we need to cut these folks some slack. :)

I would say its no biggie if the forum was a step up from what we had, but so far its a step down.

If you are asking for people's feedback on the new forum changes, there are plenty of threads with plenty of posts telling you how people feel.

Yes, it is a big deal. Do you know about Wizards of the Coast? They practically lost half or more of their community when they uglified their forums. Some entire subforums are dead.

We don't want that to happen to these forums. Which is why we want the style and options back.

Forums are, to a large extent, a way to form a coherent community around a game.

Part of that is establishing some form of identity, both through usernames and avatars.

The change made a lot of folks lose their usernames and avatars, which pretty much strips most people of identity and cuts the legs out of the community.

MANY games live or die by the feeling of camaraderie and word of mouth of a community.
    Campaign: The Fenwick Cycle NWS-DKR9GB7KH

Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?

Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?

Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?

That's the only reason this game made it this far. Licensed MMO's are not known for there longevity. The only reason this game is still around (and is doing rather well) is due to the forums, and podcasts like STOked and Priority One.

So yeah. Cutting a third of their support is a pretty damned big deal.

But I think thats what PWE actually wants to happen.

I think and its only my opinion that PWE wants to break the back of the community and start over.

    (EDIT)
Well I started with a quote in this but the forums being what they are now I hit the wrong quote button.

You remember that show wife swap? Where they would switch your wife for some other random wife in hopes that it would be a bad coupling for ratings? That's what this is, except they've taken the wife we've all known and loved and switched her for an ugly mean useless bossy wife that even the original husband hates, the only difference is we're probably not getting our old wife back.

I agree though, had this been a step up, no issue at all, but as you can see from all the other threads, it's not just a step down, but several.

I wouldn't want to be a member of Perfect World's family. PWE is a terrible family. They are like the crackhead family at the end of the street no one talks to and everyone tries to avoid.

I'm disappointed. I don't think the goal was to 'break the community's back,' I think the goal was to make Cryptic conform still more to PWE's image. But it'll have the same effect.

I wonder... has the 'ignore' list also been unlinked to the forum? I didn't really have anyone on it, but I'm curious.

(On the other hand, I admit I do like the in-situ post editing.

the quality of life on the forums has gone down hill greatly, but in the grand scheme of things i dont personally find it that big of a deal.

I have a bog standard avatar now, my name has an annoying 1 at the end, and i cant access old posts but I dont really care that much. its not exactly turned my world upside down, and ive been using the pw account for over a month with no trouble with zen.

to me this is a forum to give feedback. nothing more. a few cosmetic changes for the worse have not affected my view of how i use the forums that much. (although that stupid 'do you like free zen' banner is growing old fast).

not great, but not that much of a big deal for me.

Like most of you, I do not care much for the new look of the forums. Perhaps in a few weeks we will all get used to them like we did the Lottery Boxes. Then we can all move onto the next issue. Perhaps like Tier 5 Connie :) for 2k Zen.

not great, but not that much of a big deal for me.

The forum is also a record of history. Whether it be change, no change, or feedback that history is far more difficult to unravel now. In essence, the way this was implemented we are starting from square one again. People will need to rebuild the history of their ideas, concepts, and feedback to the game in a very difficult way. That history of discussion, whether negative or positive, also created a sense of a community as the forums for STO unfortunately became the community tool for the game because in game options are lacking. Time will tell about this change, some people will just give up and try not to find the ideas they posted and some people will move froward and rebuild.

For what you think is not a big change there are already threads of people who feel it is.

P.S. I would not normally say this but had it not been for the recent Priority One episode but I do it for jest...

Dan you slapped us in the face and threw us under the Bus!!!!

While I've gotten used to the look, and kinda like it now, though time will tell whether that'll stick- and even the lack of avatars I could get behind, so long as everyone takes this chance to personalise their sigs (though that obviously shouldn't need to be the sole ID method in this modern age, even real life signitures are going out of importance),it's more of the fact that
    1. All my subscriptions are gone.
    2. They've gone primitive on some very basic things, like the smilies, subscriptions not being auto on posts, etc.
    3. They won't take any of this feedback into consideration, and everyone knows it.
    4. They didn't ask the community for ideas in changing the forum.

Yeah... Not the best signiture, but it's my first time using an advanced image editing program, so... woo!

Well, it's not THAT big of a deal, the things that are wrong are fixable and definitely not something I would blame Cryptic for. I just didn't like the total lack of foreknowledge that it was going to happen today, the lack of a report button (no idea where that's vanished to, anyone got any ideas), then there wasn't a choice as to whether we wanted to merge or not. (I didn't by the way, I'm just not at all interested in any of PWE's other MMO titles, so I didn't see the point in it)
If I didn't post so much on the forums I never would have merged accounts.

Because someday, there will be an STO in that dropdown list, and maybe all of our acheivements in STO will let us buy some unique outfits, ship skins, and other doodads, hologram generators, some consumables, XP boosts, etc.

Heya Nagus, while I agree that many folks have let Cryptic know what they thought about the Lottery Boxes, most folks just went along because this is the only Star Trek game MMO there is. You can see this by just sitting in ESD for about 30 minutes and the ammount of ships spamming the chat window.
