While a heads up would have been great. Is it really that big a deal that Perfect World brought their company CRYPTIC, into their family? It had to happen sometime. and it took a whole 5 minutes for me to bring 2 Cryptic accounts and my 2 Forsaken World (Perfect World) accounts together. Also had to happen that they would bring Zen and Cpoints together. Folks who know me know that I would be the first to give Cryptic the bashing if it was their fault, but this was defiantly an corporate decision and we need to cut these folks some slack.

No. It's not a big deal. They're moving forward. Reading all the passive aggressive posts is amusing though.
The forums is just vbulletin and it will be customized eventually.
Zen -> Cpoints is simple and its not advanced math even though some people love beating that dead horse. Looking forward to see if there will be more promotions going forward.
And once core connect is working for STO, we'll have a social hub.
So they're trying to be all Steam-like, but with a lot more hate.
I can understand the lack of transparency being annoying, but are people really longing for the "golden age" of Atari publishing this game?
But here's an idea. Cryptic, make an app that'll let you post to the forums from in game or from your phone so you can hate on PWE from wherever you are
Because someday, there will be an STO in that dropdown list, and maybe all of our acheivements in STO will let us buy some unique outfits, ship skins, and other doodads, hologram generators, some consumables, XP boosts, etc.
I LOATHE lockboxes, and it goes into the balance sheet of reasons I don't like this game. (The balance sheet spits out 'do I want to play this game or do I find it too annoying?')
But I don't complain about it endlessly because it's clearly worth money for them overall and they don't care.
It doesn't mean I've 'accepted it' so much as 'I try to ignore it as much as possible because I enjoy the game more than I dislike it so far'

Some continuity was lost with long-term threads that the community helped build.
Losing that continuity is a hiccup but I can see why everything is grouped together now.

Is it the end of the world? No, but then I'm *****ing on the forums, not shotgunning other scavengers in the face for the last can of baked beans in the wreckage of a local supermarket. It's not THAT big a deal, but I (and others) aren't responding to it like it is. I'm responding to it like it's EXACTLY as big a deal as it happens to be.
I know it's not going to be a popular opinion, but that's exactly how I'm looking at this forum change. It's a hiccup.
I actually suffer from very painful, and often disorienting hiccups. When I get them, I'm almost as useless to get anything done until they're over, much as I am when an allergy attack has me sneezing rapid fire.
Hiccups are a trivial nuisance to most people. A few people have more serious problems with them, but with a couple of extremely bizarre and rare exceptions, everyone gets over the hiccups after a short while, and they're soon forgotten about.
This forum change is annoying, but it's not "the end of STO".. or even the end of the STO community. We'll collectively rage for a couple of days, and then most people will start finding ways to adapt. Using their signatures to identify their particular posts, etc. The curators of the old long-lasting sticky posts will return and make new ones, and we well all figure out who is who over time.
The community will always be divided into "before" and "after" this change, and people may find they participate differently after this moment. Some may choose not to participate any more or participate less, while others may feel like now's their chance to get in on the ground floor with everyone else in terms of post counts, and make themselves at home.
And in the end, it will be like a brush fire. Something short and scary that ends up just clearing out some of the dead wood and weeds, leaving plenty of rich soil for new things to grow.
I don't think this is the worst thing that ever happened in STO, much less in the history of the internet. The forum is changing, and with those changes will come new cool things too.
The Core profile stuff looks pretty interesting, and I'm hoping that STO accolades will eventually award tokens for use in the CORE token store. We did get the ability to comment directly on those Dev Blog posts that the STO devs are so enamored with, so that feels like a good thing. And with the loss of avatars, maybe we'll see a little less of the cult of personalities that we saw in the past.. and we'll see people reading each other's posts, rather than reacting to particular posters.
At least we got to keep signatures, so we can still show off our pretty screenshots. :biggrin:
