I'm pretty sure it was because the previous copy wasn't officially "installed" on my system, so there was no registry info for the demo launcher to look up. After I re-installed the game properly, it hasn't given me any issues since. I'll let you know if I encounter the problem again, though.
there is something wrong with the lates version of the demo record tool, it won't render the space battles from foundray missions can you help?
So you are saying 2.9.0 is rendering them and 2.9.1 is not? Please verify this for me. I'll definitely look into this.
I remember, that during Foundry Alpha on Redshirt/Tribble we could not playback any foundry demos, because the client would not know what to do with them. So just maybe it is not my bad, but something that broke during the last game update.
yes, it will render a certin amount of frames about 2 thousand or so i think, it keeps going but on it is the excat same frame as the last one before it stops and then it'll say it's finshed but the playback on screen will keep going as though it was still recording, I don't know if it's the same for foundray mission ground maps but were it tells you how long the recording lasts for it says 0:00 even though it has a length longer than a second, also when i start up the demo record tool, for each of the foundray maps it desplays an error message the message is: The demo file <file directory> could not be parsed for meta information.
please report the fallowing error 'updates & help"
Input string was not in a correct format.
You can still put in camera possations, paths and save them it'll play them back to you normaly as it previously did but it won't render them.
If you wish i could email you a demo file that has this problem if you like.
- Fixed bug pointed out by maquis
- Improved handling of Foundry missions in general
- New filter to remove STRUCT(0) Internal Game Error messages at bottom of screen
- Slightly improved automatic update detection (for future updates)
Ok...been loving this tool, and definitely plan on using it when I make a trailer for my Foundry Mission. HOWEVER, I discovered this thread while away from home on my 5 year old laptop. When I got home and had access to my brand new desktop, I immediately downloaded this tool and rendered a demo sequence...however, after that one use, the tool will no longer launch. I have it on my desktop, double click to start, and I see the splash screen. Then, nothing. I get the Demo Launcher Icon on my start bar, but attempting to maximize it does nothing. I deleted it and redownloaded, same problem. Are there any files that get stored in the system that I can try deleting as well? Has anyone else had this problem before? Thanks for any help and for developing this program Rachel!
The problem might be that you have been switching screen resolutions. the tool remembers the window position in absolute coordinates. If the screen resolution was reduced since last use, it might have ended up "outside" of your screen.
that's a really great tool and stuff... but I have a little problem. I can't find a way to turn off the demo player's interface to make a pure video using Fraps. Could u give me a clue what button is this?

thanks a lot.
If you using fraps you'll have to crop the video. Alternatively export the demo as screen shots using the demo player, then create a video from those. Screen shots = no demo ui
What I do is just use VirtuaDub to crop the video precisely to a smaller widescreen format then downsize it to 720p at a higher framerate for added smoothness.
The demo player may be an issue with STO itself and not the demo launcher (which is brilliant).
I have not tried the rendering (screenshot) mode as I need to use the free camera.
I'm having an odd problem with the demo viewer. After working fine a few times, it suddenly won't open. Or at least it opens, immediately minimises and cannot be restored to the screen. I've tried running as admin, removing the 'downloaded exe' flag, deleting it, downloading it again, clearing out my demo folder, nothing makes any difference. It could be a windows problem, but this is a fresh build, it was installed only a month ago.
Any ideas? I'm a tech consultant and systems auditor professionally for 18 years, and an amateur programmer, so feel free to get as technical as you like.

Hi Rachel been using your tool on and off for a while now and gotta say kudos!
i posted a thread but wasnt sure id get an answer and thought it best to come straight to the source aswell. Is there a way to turn the UI back on for the demo so we can see mouse cursor powers and hull/shield strength
thanks
P.S. i havent disabled anything with filters its just an unedited demo file atm

Unfortunately no, the demo interface for playback is totally separate from the game UI so you can't get the interface and your awesome rapid clicking skills in.
However, if you have decent video editing skills you can record another video from the game itself, crop out the skillbar and hull/shield indicators and overlay that part of the UI on your demo production. I do have a video made in this format (demo plus UI overlay instrumentation) but it would be against the forum rules as it's for another game.
You just necroed a post from last year when the new version of this post is sticked in this very forum (and at the time I write this, directly above this one.)

Glad it works for you then.

2.9.5
- If location and size stored in config.ini would place window outside the screen, it is repositioned to fit within the primary screen desktop.
I also found an additional bug in the auto-update system, immediately after 2.9.5 was released, so here comes:
2.9.6
- Fixed a bug where the auto-update system would display a wrong download version number.

Rachel
P.S.: Please tell me if this causes any issues with multi-monitor setups (because I can't test that on my one-monitor machine).
I got this error trying to use demo record launcher. Could I be doing something wrong?
As you have figured out, it is not a StoDemoLauncher bug, but something that is wrong with certain maps.
Add your bug information here: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=238100

It was fun recording my new character's first PvE fleet battle at about level 6 or so

Hope this helps
Type in "%AppData%
Open "StoDemoLauncher"
Delete the config.ini
That did it. Thanks.
