    Changelog 1.8.0
    • Fixed bug that would show a different character name than your own in the "character column"
    • Fixed a bug, where the "Render Demo" button would not stay in the bottom right corner on resizes
    • We got a shiny toolbar!
      • Replicates button for
        • Refresh
        • Play demo
        • Render demo
        • Visit this forum thread
      • New features
        • Open demo folder with file browser
        • Open screen shot folder with file browser
        • "About" window with version number, credits, and disclaimers.
      • Also, the underlying source code got some love

Tell me what you think about it. I could remove the buttons at the bottom of the window, since the tool bar is feature complete, but Fit's Law suggests to give the most important features more screen estate space.

    Regards,
    Rachel

Another option for the app, whether it does it automatically or as an option, might be to remove any on-screen messages from the demo before rendering.

That is exactly, what is next on my Todo list. :)

The man at Cryptic who is the DemoRecorder Guru, in fact he invented it, is:
    h2orat

Maybe you should PM him a link to this thread as I'm sure he will like your app!
Also, if you ask nicely he will PM you his DemoRecorder "Manual".
(NB: DemoRecorder is provided "as-is" by Cryptic and there is no official support)

EDIT: Thanks for the mention in the About Screen :)

1.8.1.0 is having problems. Or maybe Cryptic's DemoRecorder was altered in today's patch. /shrug

    -
All builds have worked perfectly so far. (Win7 Ult X64)

Latest builds pop up an error on launch, "can not parse directory". Clicking out of PopUp lets the app continue as normal.

Cryptic's DemoRecord, (CDR from now on), itself will play .demo files as usual.
However if I attempt anything, even a simple Rewind, CDR will crash.

This has been tested on multiple .demo files both from before and after today's patch.

What exactly is this for? Is it only good for the Demo version of the game? Whats its purpose?

    That's very cool!

I've been looking for a demo file editor of sorts, but never been able to find anything. Do you have any other features like this on your Todo list?

BTW, this till is very awesome and makes working with demo files soooo much easier! Thank you so much for making it!!

The App is still working as intended.

There seems to be, for me at least, a problem with CDR after today's patch.
It is totally unusable and crashes if any user input is offered.

    Shame

Would seem odd that this only happens to me.
Any -demo_play filename people who can still edit in CDR should shout out!

The popup might occur, if you do not have a Tribble account. I'll make sure there is no error, if there is only a regular installation with Holodeck-only access.

In STO you can record gameplay to so-called "demo"-files (enter "/demorecord [filename]" in chat window to start, type "/demorecordstop" to stop). This tool helps you to manage these files.
and create some awesome machnima, if you are good at video editing.

    My "Engineering Report" ;)
    • Right now
      • Refactor code to make it more manageble. I.e., no feature changes, but makes the addition of additional features much easier.
    • Next up
      • Introduce an "editor" for demo files
        • Will open an individual file in a new window
        • Offers a list of filters to edit individual parts, e.g.,
          • Remove HUD messages
          • Remove or swap characters
          • Remove unwanted FX elements
    • Long term
      • Backup/versioning system for demo files, so you can always restore them
      • Integration with VirtualDub, so you can edit rendered movies

Can confirm, that the "Rewind" button causes a crash. However, pause, play and keyboard navigation did not.

    Changelog 1.8.3
    • Minor spelling fixes
    • Launcher stops you, if you try to run a deleted or renamed demo file
    • Further refactoring (no visible feature changes, but improvements to software architecture)

    Rachel

    Changelog 1.9.1
    • Completed refactoring. Adding new features should be much less painful
    • Fixed bug, where you could "run" a demo, when none was selected
    • Added context menu to list view
    • Added dummy editor

The editor obviously does not do anything useful, yet. Next, I'll be adding a backup feature and a simple filter to remove HUD messages.

    Rachel

    Looking good :)

Was nice to see an up to date version being used on today's Live edition of STOked.

The command line to grab the audio from your .demo file is:
    -demo_play_60fps yourdemofilename -audiooutput "\yourfilename.wav" -noInactive 1

This will open CDR and record a .wav to the root of your STO installation drive. [eg, in my case D:]

For synching reasons this would be the last step in CDR before passing your unedited footage to your NLE.

NotifySendWithData and NotifySend are the two bad boys re: OnScreen messages.

I cannot for the life of me remember how to remove Player/BOF abilty graphics from the Demo.

    Changelog 1.9.4
    • Redesigned the way to handle command line arguments, makes it easier to incorporate new command line options
    • Added a "Render Demo" dialog, that let's you choose the file format of the rendered screen shots (jpg/tga)

Next for today: Backup option in Demo Editor and Message removal filter.

    Changelog 1.9.5
    • Backup and Restore function in Demo Editor

    Regards,
    Rachel
  • Archived PostArchived Post Member Posts: 2,264,498 Arc User

    Changelog 2.0.0
    • Added filters menu to Demo Editor
    • Added "Remove Notifications" filter
      • Scans for NotifySend and NotifySendWithData messages
      • Allows you to select which messages to remove
      • Allows for preview of the filtered file, so you do not have to destroy your original demo with an untested result.

Caution! Please use the "Backup demo" and "Preview" functionality extensively. I've tested this hack with only one demo file. It worked fine, but there is no guarantee, that there isn't a bug in there, I have overlooked.

Next, I'll spending some more time on the UI before I implement a second or third filter. I'm not happy with the flow of "select demo -> edit -> filter -> remove notification --> ok --> close --> play". That should be doable with half the amount of clicks.

But something is better than nothing. Again: Backup often!

    Regards,
    Rachel

    Changelog 2.1.0
    • Added main menu
    • Added keyboard shortcuts for all commands (see OP for list)

The "classic" buttons at the bottom of the window will be gone in 2.2.0. Also, I want to reduce the file size. Currently each icon is included once per menu item that uses it, but there is no reason, why the context menu "Play Demo", tool bar "Play Demo", and menu "Play Demo" should need three different icon resources, when it is the same picture.

    Rachel

    • Added "Open Folder in Fle Browser" to context menu

There is also a tutorial at starbaseugc.com.

I get a corrupt file that crashes my client if I try to remove notifications such as "@XYZ has logged off". Could you have a look if there have been any changes in the format the demos are saved?

    Changelog 2.4.0
    • Completely redone filtering engine (preparations for batch processing)
    • Better error detection, handling and communication
    • Revamped editor
      • No changes are written to the demo file on disk, until you save it
      • New save as... command in editor
    • New launcher commands:
      • Delete
      • Rename
      • Replaced bottom UI elements in launcher with status bar

@gaius: send you a pm with my mail address, so you can send me a demo file that gets corrupted by the demo launcher and I can start debugging the filter.

    Rachel,

Latest version of your app is looking very sexy. Congrats on improving a project so regularly.

I missed your ingame mail from a few weeks ago, (Busy on a RL Video Project), but you didnt need my help on that one really.

Great to see you on the Live STOked tonight, no comment on the difference between your avatar and your live Skype video :P

    Best wishes to the hospital,

    Joho

/EDIT: Now that you are famous maybe the Jupiter Team will let you suggest that Chris's mic sounds bloody awful and is the only thumbs-down to the whole JB portfolio ;)
