Something I noticed tonight while playing my KDF character (who is currently at brigadier general 4) - As far as I can tell, all of the Federation c-store ships / emblem ships may be obtained at the rank of Rear Admiral Lower Half 1. All of the KDF c-store ships / emblem ships may only be obtained at Lieutenant General - the federation rank equivalent being Vice Admiral.
Is there any reason for this? Why do Klingons, at least those who want to pay for a ship on the cstore, have to wait 10 levels longer than federation characters to get their unique t5 ships? Afterall, the only way to obtain these on -either- side without grinding emblems or via your free ship token at LG/VA is to purchase them on the c-store, and it confounds me that cryptic forces klingon players to grind out an extra 10 levels before being able to spend their money. Seems like a very bad marketing decision to me.
The Kar'Fi Battle Carrier was the ship I was interested in purchasing, only to find out it was LG only. That struck me as odd as I knew all (or at least most) of the Federation ships were purchasable at RA lower half 1 - so I checked out the others. The Guramba Siege Destroyer, Varanus Support Ship, and B'rel Retrofit are all Lieutenant General only - they cannot be purchased before then.
I know that at least the excelsior retrofit, galaxy retrofit, intrepid retrofit, and defiant retrofit are purchasable at lower half 1, the only fed ship I'm not sure about is the Dreadnaught.
EDIT:
I just double checked the c-store ingame, and it appears I was partially wrong. On the federation side, these are the rank restrictions for the ships:
Comes down to supply and demand.
Many wants to fly the iconic Star Trek ships. (Mainly demand since the word please has been lost to the ages)
And the C-store is the supply.
I mean for Klingons they can fly a raptor or Bird of Prey from tier 1 and up. Yes their looks get changed the higher you go... But still the same class more or less.
How many Klingon players do you hear shout from the top of their lungs that they want to fly a K'tanco at Brigader General?
Would still love to get my hands on a Varanus at a lower tier.
Still, the point remains the same - none of the KDF ships can be purchased until LG.
That's because the Dreadnought, Nebula, and Excelsior were added when Rear Admiral was the highest you could go. The Klingon ships were added after the level cap increase.
I'm not saying it's right. Personally, I think they should be consistent (either all RA, or all VA, for the admiral-level C-store ships)
In the end, Cryptic might not get much more money by offering them at a lower level, but I know that personally I'd be buying the Kar'fi at BG1 if I could. The rank the ships are available at certainly needs to be normalized at least.

It wouldn't matter. The ships are all tier 5 anyway...the only difference is whether you have to be an RA (BG) or a VA (LG).
Yea, and like I said that's a 10 level difference, can take a long time to grind out those ranks.
/me uses the force on Telbasta: "You do not want to fly these ships."
"I do not want to fly these ships"
/me: "Those are not the ships you´ve been looking for."
"These are not the ships i am loking for"
Very good
That said most of the purchasable ships are not worth the money imo. Just look around in the forums.
And if you think the 10 levels are a long time grind. Just stay at Gamma orionis and do that deep space encounter mission. You´ll get loads of points for that.

And this surprises you?

None simply becouse they are lost in inside of the roaring crowd of federation players.
