Even though my comment was only made with regard to TOS (to clarify...just the T.V. show) I agree, the sash turned into more of what we believe it to be now. I think with the more current storyline, it has nothing to do with rank.
Here is another quote from the same page you were talking about. "A baldric was a wide, usually ornamental belt worn over one shoulder and around the waist that is typically used to carry weapons and/or denote rank. (Star Trek: Insurrection)" This quote could be where Cryptic got the idea to use the sash for rank.
To be honest I feel that the command vest AKA stole should be used to denote who the commanding officer of the ship is and pins for anyone that don't want the stole.
There has never been a canon moment when someone said their sash was a sign of rank. Koloth was a Capt. high rank than Kor (a Cmdr in Errand of Mercy) and didn't wear a sash. There is nothing canon that says sash is related to rank.
I'd rather see the rank pins on the collar denote rank even if Cryptic has to "invent" the insignia.

Agreed, even in my first post about this I said it was never mentioned...well...unless you want to use the mention of a sash possibly indicating rank when Worf assumed he was captain of the Enterprise in episode Conundrum, because of his sash.
Whether you or I are right or wrong, Cryptic did it this way and CBS approved it, so maybe...just maybe they felt the sash should have something to do with command. Memory Alpha said during the 2260's that commanding officers wore them and I have yet to see a low ranking Klingon wear one (in TOS).
As for Cryptic having to invent something, they already have a rank design. Just look at the top left of your screen.
I only mentioned that for TOS. My comment was I only saw captains wear them in TOS, not all captains, not that anyone else couldn't wear them, just that in TOS I never saw anyone but a captain wear them. The only true House affiliation I know of in TOS canon are the pins on their sash. As for rank pins, there are at least two canon rank pins in TOS.
Not quite right I'm afraid.
Kor was not a "captain" but a "commander".
He referred to himself as commander even though that could have simply implied his status not his rank.
However he was also referred to a commander by Spock who might not have known how else to adress him.
But Kor was also adressed as commander by his lieutenant when Kor was informed Kirk and Spock had escaped.
So we do have a Klingon in TOS who was not a captain but wore a sash: Kor.

True, but he was the commanding officer and weren't commanders allowed to be captains of ships? You could say my definition of captain or even commander for that matter really means the commanding officer. When I say the sash denotes rank, I mean rank as senior officer, commander of the crew, captain of the ship all that jazz. But you're right, Kor did not have the rank of Captain then.
If we could, I would very much like to continue this debate through PM. My purpose for my original comment was not meant to derail this tread, just merely an observation I had. So...my apologies Varrangian

Don't be such a pessimist, I think they could easily get this done by 2064.
