$25.00 For the Guramba? What a great deal!

Good thing I am already on antidepressants because after purchasing the Guramba I would need them. The Guramba has no redeeming qualities, I am ashamed for having purchased it, and may God have mercy on Cryptic's soul for selling it.

I don't expect the Guramba to be some super powerful ship, but for $25.00 I do expect it to be usable. As a standard escort the Guramba is comparable to other Tier 5 (T5) escorts. What separates the Guramba from other T5 escorts is its special Siege Mode (SM) and Energy Javelin (EJ). Unfortunately, it is the special abilities of the Guramba that makes it such a disappointment.

-Quick description of the Guramba:
The Siege Mode with the EJ consists of four phases: deploy, charge, fire, and recover. The initial deploy phase makes the Guramba switch to SM. The purpose of SM is to power and fire the EJ. Attacking enemy targets will cause the Guramba to charge the EJ. When the EJ is completely charged an icon will appear indicating it is ready to fire. After the EJ fires the Guramba recovers from SM back into its standard configuration. Once the Guramba is completely recovered there is a cool down period before it can be deployed into SM again.

-Why I am disappointed:
The concept of the Guramba's SM looks good on paper, however; in practice it fails. The SM deployment takes of few seconds to complete. This is fine before combat, but during combat it leaves the player vulnerable. During Siege mode the movement rate is reduced by half, so the escort advantage of speed and maneuverability is lost. The reduced movement also makes aiming the weapons to charge the EJ difficult. The EJ does not stay fully charged once charging is complete. The charge will begin to dissipate requiring the EJ to be charged again.

Now it is time to fire the EJ. The EJ has the same firing arc as cannon weapons. The shallow firing arc and slow movement of SM makes aiming the EJ difficult. The EJ takes a few seconds to focus the charged energy before it fires. Due to the slow speed of SM and the time delay before firing, the EJ is easy to dodge. The time delay also allows the enemy to turn to a shielded side before the EJ fires. Like the deployment phase, recovery takes a few seconds to complete and leaves the player vulnerable.

-A possible solution for improvement:
Changing the SM requirement to charge the EJ would make the Guramba slightly redeemable. This would allow the EJ to be charged in standard mode. Once charged the Guramba would still have to deploy, fire, and recover. Reducing the Guramba's EJ attack down to three phases would not give it any super advantage. The only advantage that the Guramba would gain is making the EJ actually usable.

Seriously, don't waste money on this Star Ship. A Raptor or Bird of pray with a Tricobalt Torpedo can out perform the Guramba and it will not cost you $25.00.

I am sure plenty of peaple will think it is the best thing to happen since the Cloaking Device, but the Guramba is not worth $25,00. There is no way creating the Guramba cost so much that it takes a $25.00 price point to make up the expense.

You realise of course that the Galaxy X has been 25 since it was put in the C-store, you'r looking at about 12 or so for the other retrofit ships...

I'll admit 25 seems rather a bit overpriced, but then I don't have to worry about the sub fee since I have a lifetime. Still, despite wanting the Guramba for my current LG raptor pilot (more becuase of the backstory I created for her than the for the shiop itself.) I haven't paid for it myself, don't intend to either, I'll just wait till it comes out for emblems or some other ingame means and get it then.

A "new" low? lol...the Dreadnought (aka Galaxy-X) has been $25 for months. There's nothing new about the price.

Yea, it's quite pathetic isn't it. The worst part is we have no equitable knowledge of where all these proceeds are going either. You would think content created for the STO C-store would help power the content development for STO but I've yet to see that be the case. It's quite irritating to see that C-store purchases are further providing funds for other C-store development. The C-store should be a small way for them to create extra funds to help continue develop the game, not 'get rich' off the fans/players like they are now.

On the bright side they ahven't steeped as low as they could have yet. They haven't started putting stuff that is ultra mandatory in the store, or selling large advantage, auto levelers, etc. Regardless the C-Store is an utter disapointment.

Fascinating. First you say we don't know where the money goes, then you claim to know it....

Personally I don't see the problem. I bought the Galaxy-X. And even though I never had the chance to test it (unlike the Guramba) I knew exactly what I was getting by reading the forums. Nobody forced me or conned me into buying it. It was my own crazy love for everything All Good Things that made me buy a cannon cruiser with the maneuverability of a brick in frozen water and level a character just for it. Was it worth it? For me yes. If you spend 25 $ on a single item in a game look at what you are getting.

Contrary to what you may believe, the price of something has nothing to do with how much it takes to make it. It's all about demand. As long as there are people willing to pay the $25 for it, the price is justified. The same complaints were made when the Galaxy-X was put in. Back then, I would see a ton of them flying around sector space, so obviously there were plenty of people that purchased them. And in talking to most people now, the gal-X isn't all that. So, I'm not surprised the hear the same complaints about the Garumba. The bottom line is that Cryptic is a business, and like every other business, is out to make a profit. No profit = shutdown of game. No one forced you to buy it.

To correct you, no profit = F2P. Look at whats happening with CO. Supply vs Demand only is valid in the real world where there is a supply. They can give everyone a Galaxy X since it doesn't take anything to create anymore, after the initial creation *as bad as it was*. They are just greedy and need to make money to stay afloat. Sinking ships do that... they sink.

The cost of manufacturing or providing a service is factored into the price point. There is cost of materials, labor, electricity, taxes, property rental, building upkeep, etc. If a service provider or manufacturer does not sell a product for at least the amount it takes to produce, provide, or has some way to recover losses it will cease to exist. The cost it took to create the Guramba is no exception. Freedomrunning is mostly correct about supply. The slight exception is Cryptic has to supply storage space in a database and that costs money. Giving away the Guramba would cost Cryptic, so that cost has to be recovered. I am no financial expert on the cost of electronic distributed Intellectual Property, but I think the monthly fee to play would cover it. It is correct that with free will I purchased the Guramba for $25.00, and it is with free will that I swallow my pride and tell others I was a dumb TRIBBLE for buying it.

Wow, I was just checking the forums to see if the Guramba was any good, didn't know that it cost $25.00 though. I missed the Galaxy X thing, haven't played for a while. I don't care if it has a fire breathing Patrick Stewart head mounted on it, there is no way I'm paying $25.00 for it. I could by a pre-owned game for that much. That's half the cost of Black Ops. That's an entire game, and a darn good one. And why buy a ship for a faction that still is unfinished over a year after launch? Why buy a ship period? Generally the idea was that the subscription fee for MMO's covered small updates. I can understand $25 for a full fledged expansion, but not for something that small. That goes beyond making a fair profit, it's a straight case of greed, especially if there isn't any way to get it in game.

I'm glad I saw this thread when I did, I was actually considering buying the Guramba last night.

hearing that the turn rate is halfed in siege mode, and that the energy javelin automatically removes siege mode, and that there's a cooldown before going back... yea, TRIBBLE this ship =/

Ahhh, the bitter sweet symphony of KDF Tears. Feds have had to bare the shame of the cancerous Galaxy-X for months. Now you may cry freely in our shared pain while you attempt to scrape up some sliver of justification to your purchase.

It is a blantant rip off tbh pure and simple.

Ones like the GX cost alot because Cryptic said it was a referal , funny how ships starting to appear are going up in price and there not referals , more lies to fool folks and there suckered in.

I dont mind micro transactions but this is utterly stupid , just wait to see how much the Vulcan ship will cost you.

Just go FTP and be done with it crytpic for goodness sakes.
