I found a feather outside and a pokeberry plant. I picked a pokeberry, sharpened the feather, poked the berry, and proceeded to write "Hello world!" on a piece of paper.

I suppose the early Klingons wrote with the bones of their enemies.... Early Vulcans probably used some kind of sharpened slide rule.

    >---Wall of text warning!!---<
I dont think you will like DA2 then, its an action console game and plot plays second fiddle. Let us know what you thought though, ide be interested to hear :)

Well, I've played it for several hours now. So far, I like it! It is very different, so I could see many fans of the original not liking the new format. They definitely fixed combat though -- mages finally don't seem ridiculously overpower. Plus I don't have an absolutely full ability tray with similar skills. There isn't as much freedom in the storyline, but I think that's okay. I don't like having to play a game through a dozen times to see all the combinations anyway.

The look of the game is much better, IMO. I feel like I'm part of the action instead of this ominous presence peeking in the window. The darkspawn look sort of dumb now, more like Joker's henchmen, but many of the other critters are fine. The companion characters have unique armor, which I greatly prefer over the generic look of the characters from the first game. Combat animation is actually fun to watch instead of just seeing someone wave a sword or staff in a lame swing. The overall interface (gui) could look a bit better. They went with a really minimalist approach which sort of turns me off.

The voice acting seems better now. The constant Orlesian (French?) accent that half the characters had in DA1 was driving me nuts. "The bard has lisp? Are you freakin kidding me?!" Having a speaking player character is also improvement for me, I hate having someone stare blankly while I'm trying to have a conversation.

Most of the game seems to take place in a single city. This is fine with me. I never liked going to entirely new places and having to locate all the shops again. In free-roaming RPGs, I prefer to choose a homebase and venture out in expanding circles from there. It's more realistic, methinks.

So somewhere in 5-10 hours of playtime, I'm really enjoying it! I've heard the side quests get tedious later, but they'd have to be exceptionally bad to make me turn up my nose at this point. It's definitely worth the $10 I spent to get it. :p The only thing that really bugged me so far has been the DRM. What can you do, though?

-a ninja whispers in his ear-
Oh right, STO forums. Ummm.... the elves look like vulcans.

Lyrics to Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty And Bones :

They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones
They were men for all ages
    Somehow evil was overthrown

They always strove for honour, never fought for gold
“Live long and prosper,” never really got old
    [x2]

They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones
They were men for all ages
    Somehow evil was overthrown
And when they were put to the test
They could save a planet alone
They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones

They had passion and danger in their veins
    ? dower in shame
On a five year mission ?they place? through the universe
At warp speed they could stopped the worst

They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones
They were men for all ages
    Somehow evil was overthrown
And when they were put to the test
They could save a planet alone
They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones

They knew how to ? of hand, they loved to drink
And under pressure they always do their thing?
And they were never afraid of the unknown
In grave danger they were always thrown

They were men for all ages
Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones
They were men for all ages
    Somehow evil was overthrown

They always strove for honour, never fought for gold
“Live long and prosper,” never really got old
They were men for all ages
They were men for all ages
    That much we know

    -stares up slightly dizzy-
    Wow, senshi. :)

To add to my impression of DA2, I thought of 2 more things:

I like the inventory system. It automatically puts useless items into a junk bin to be sold. (I wish I could set up to have all common goods in STO go straight into the replicator!) It also rates items in terms of ability with stars, so you can see at a glance if you should equip it or not.

Also, I've noticed that the scale seems to be correct for most buildings. The interior of a building looks like it could correctly fit into the exterior model you see. Every building in DA1 was like walking into the tardis.
