What problem are they trying to fix? People are having too much fun in the game?
It was in the latest ask cryptic:
Q: Case_Wintermute: Will there ever be a revamp of the skill system regarding ship skills? Specially for Vice Admirals there are just too many specific ship skills. What if someone wants to fly more than one type of ship or even shipclass? It just costs too much points to fly 2 or 3 or more ships effectively.
A: We are discussing both simple and radical changes that could be made to the skillpoint system, and we are still deliberating on exactly how we want to resolve the issue you point out. One popular idea is to break up skillpoints between ground and space so that you don't have to decide which region to focus on. Another radical idea is to restrict the ship classes you can fly to your captain's class until later levels. This would mean that if your captain was a Tactical officer, she could only fly escorts up until admiral ranks. This along with a restructuring of the space skillpoint tree could lead to some clearer skillpoint choices later on in ranks. Just an idea, nothing confirmed yet. I'm interested what you all would think of this.
So if you invest skill points at every tier to fly a cruiser, you'd never have any reason to fly anything else once you get to the upper levels.
Hort thinks a simple solution would be to just do away with skill point investments in captaining a certain class of ship.... Maybe instead grant a bonus if someone uses a ship in their class or uses one for 5 in-game hours to have a "shake down cruise".
3. Fix the torpedoes. Besides photon and quantum, I don't see much reason to use the others.
Tricobalt deals a MASSIVE amount of damage to unsheilded hulls. The problem is that the cooldown period is the longest of all the torps and you can use modifiers like High Yield and Spread with them. They also move so slowly that an enemy ship can shoot them down. The same with tricobalt mines.
Plasmas are sort of a poor man's tricobalt when used with High Yeild; it does a lot of (unsheilded) damage and always inflicts a plasma fire on its target. The only draw back is that, like tricobalts, it moves very slowly when used with HY, making it easy to shoot down.
Essentially, the best defense for Plasmas and Tricobalts are Beam: Fire at Will, Canon: Scattervolley, Photonic Shockwave, and Tractor Beam Repulsers. Other than that, I don't see an issue with these two.
As for transphasics and chronitons - yeah, not much point in these two. The speed debuff for chronitons and the sheild bleedthrough for transphasics don't make them seem worth it, IMHO.
Meh, hort is dizzy and miserable from a cold tonight, he'll play tomorrow. @_@
As far as weapons go, I think what they did was fine. They want to encourage people to use the weapons classic to their race, so they cost less to train and are the most appealing. When they introduce the romulans, all they have to do is flip the plasma/transphasics around with the photons/quantums in the skill tree, done!
I have a pretty nice build with transphasics. They do an okay job against ships with powerful shields. But then, if you get a crit with phasers, then you have a clean shot to the hull and don't need to worry about shield penetration anyway.... But that mine launcher is pretty sweet!
Why? Romulans used photons too, especially in the TNG era. Just switch plasmas and quantums around, leave photons and transphasics where they are.
Well, I'm assuming the hirogen would be part of the rommie faction as well. So the romulan faction would specialize in tetryon, plasma energy, plasma projectile, and ... .... might as well be transphasics.
Are you sure the rommies used photons in TNG? I could only find mention of them in the episode with the Enterprise-C, which was set in the past.
people are always going to find a flaw with the game, it's been the way it is now for over a year.. if you're not used to it, move on to another game and stop whining >.>
my motto "please myself and reward those that please me, everybody else is just going to whine no matter what i do"
Yes I even tested the Federation Foundry mission freeing a spy from the Orion's .. now I'm tired..
my Caitain LC 1 was refreshing after so much Admiral And General pew pew.. pvp.. yesterday and those dailies were grinding me down.. i crashed out at SB 39 even .. so its hard to meet the DJ at Club 47 for a dance. aw i need shore leave.. a planet w robots that aren't trying to pwn me would be nice...

ihas a blast..
So I got the Dungeons game a couple days ago when it came out. I only get a couple new games a year, so I thought I should comment on it. People are raging at it on steam much like people do on these forums.
It isn't bad, though. I liked Dungeon Keeper 2, I like this game. They're very similar, but not the same. Most fans wanted the same game with updated graphics, which is why they're whining like spoiled princesses. I'm about half way through now. One of the things of this game that's getting the most yelling is that they introduce features slowly. I still haven't gotten access to the torture equipment, for example. The first level didn't even have the classic overhead view, which was admittedly a poor start.
There are a couple major changes from the DK series:
You control a character instead of just staying a disembodied force throughout the game. This is nice, I actually like being able to control one unit directly to go exploring. Your base is guarded by your monsters while you go out to face the challenges with your own dark lord. He's plenty tough with spells and abilities that are modified (significantly, like 400%) by the size of your dungeon.
You can't build rooms for monsters, you have to capture monsters that are already on the level. This is getting a lot of anger from players who liked to just build the same base every time and send the toughest units at bad guys over and over and over.... I personally think this is a strength because each level actually requires some thinking and strategy to figure out.
People are also upset that there isn't a multiplayer mode. The levels seem to be long enough, though. I'm estimating >20 hours to complete, which isn't bad since there's plenty of replay value to get various challenges. Overall, maybe not quite worth the $40 price tag, but I'd definitely get it again for $30. Rating: 8/10

so what do you DO in this game?
besides listen to people on steam whine about it...
Watched the newest Transformers Prime episode, Masters & Students. I have to say, if the writers keep churning out episodes like these, this series has a chance of exceeding the previous Animated series in popularity. Thought its safe to say the G1 and Beast Wars series will remain at the top of most Transfans' lists.

are you including that "redone" beast wars where they're on cybertron?
so what do you DO in this game?
besides listen to people on steam whine about it...
Heh, right... Well, that review is mostly for people around here who mentioned liking Dungeon Keeper, which is probably 95% of the target audience of the game.
The gameplay is a type of RTS game. You tell your minions where to dig tunnels in the dungeon. You can summon monsters to fight for you. Heroes invade and are trapped in your prison cells, where they are slowly drained of their spirit energy. (Funny explanation, the heroes give you more spirit energy if they're happy, which explains why dungeons have random treasure chest sitting around...) You use the spirit energy to upgrade yourself and your monsters.
There is a plot that kicks off at the start: you were betrayed by your succubus girlfriend who allowed an overwhelming number of heroes into your dungeon so that you'd have to flee to the surface to get reestablished. In this realm, the deeper you go, the more power enemies you face. So in the game, you oversee dungeons that you build of increasing size and prestige, all the while slowly working your way back down to thrash your ex.
So, which of the following Transformers Prime characaters should I chose for an avatar... Ratchet Soundwave Starscream
Hmm...
ok, just making sure coz i was going to say that it for the most part was kinda pooy.... except for the toys, they toys are fun =D...
except my megatron broke when i moved and now his wing is snapped T~T
I wonder what the guard will have for last stand mode....
Infantry, Ogryns, Infantry, Commissars, Infantry, Leman Russ Tanks, Infantry, Artillery, Infantry, Techpriests, Infantry, Ratlings?, Infantry, Sanctioned Psykers, Infantry, The Force Commander, Infantry, Sentinels, Infantry, and of course Chimeras carrying Infantry.
But in all seriousness, I expect the 'command' force for the Guard to be:
Force Commander (Captain or Colonel)
Commissar or Sanctioned Psyker, probably Commissar
Techpriest
Forces to be...
Infantry Squad
Heavy Weapons Squad
Kaskin Squad
Ogryn Squad
Leman Russ
Chimera
I'm sort of interesting in DoW2... I'm just going to wait until there's a crazy bundle pack that has everything for $20 though. That's what I did with DoW1.

Besides the Guard? I would get it if that was all they were adding. But supposedly they are also adding single player campaigns for multiple factions.
Eldar have been mentioned. You have been warned.
