The Enterprise should never be a warship, a ship that can fight yes but not a warship. The Enterprise must always stand as symbol of peace, diplomacy, and exploration.

Hey, sometimes to gain peace, one must wage war..... :p

But yeah I dig where you're coming from, the ship really needs to show that at a time of total war, there is still hope for peace....but that peace is also prepared to defend itself :)

I wish I had the skills to enter the contest haha....maybe I'll get one of my savy friends to aid me

if i could enter i would have to learn how to draw quickly. i can write good descriptions but cant draw for toffee. i am in agreeance it has to be a ship built for battle i mean there not going to build anouther ship to explore the universe when there at war. it also has to be the classic enterprise shape.

With the war taking a backseat in the game, and a whole new Exploration system being, eventually, introduced I don't see why it needs to be a battleship. Even though there's PvP in the game STO isn't really about the Klingon war, or any of the other wars. STO's an everyman Trek game where people can play every era and every style. If you don't PvP the war is completely meaningless to the game.

Now one of my 'pet peaves' of many of the STO starship designes is that they LACK A VISIBLE SHUTTLECRAFT BAY!!! (How can you do deep space exploration without a shuttle craft bay?!?!) So whoever wants to submit a design, please include at least two (or more) visible shuttlecraft bays!!!

A changeable/dock-able module (e.g. the Nebula class) would also be a nice addition... And all the recent 'Official' Star Trek vessels have included a external visible 'Captains Yacht/Winged Flyer', so this should also be included...

Anyone you know own a camera?

Not really... HOWEVER, I did get the hang of a 3D Modeling! (Sorta) At the very least, I can model, better than I can draw. But that really isn't saying much...

    My Entry

It is a shame the pics didn't turn out better. You can hardly see detail. I was so proud of the Nacelles, too. And I couldn't save the model, so that is as good as it gets.

I don't believe the Federation would design a new Enterprise that wasn't a warship while they are at war with the Klingons, the Borg, and the Undine and pretty much at war with the Romulans and the Mirror Universe. That said, I hope the design doesn't go drastically different than the other Enterprises in that I want it to have 2 nacelles above and angled from the saucer section. Change the details all you want like they did with the Sov but keep it recognizably an Enterprise.

I hope the new Enterprise can give a valid choice to those currently flying the Excelsior since I think no other cruiser can compete with it right now. Give it a universal slot, 3 tac consoles, and the ability (whether from the universal slot or otherwise) for a lt. commander or better tac officer slot. It doesn't matter how it looks if it is perceived that the Excelsior is a more powerful ship.

I think they'd give it a more aggressive look but they wouldn't have obvious weapons systems and that it wouldn't tend to serve on the war fronts. The Sovereign was an aggressive ship but, as far as we know, its use in the Dominion War was limited and pretty surgical... and I think that says something about how Starfleet views the Enterprise's role.

I think there's a pretty good chance that we'll see more of the front lines action than the Enterprise itself will. Among other things, that ship is a symbol and you don't risk your symbols like that any more than you send the President of the United States into battle routinely.

That isn't to say you wouldn't hand him a shotgun if the White House was under siege and the secret service was all dead.

But the morale loss if the Enterprise was taken down would be pretty catastrophic. I'm curious to see how they handle the Enterprise-E; my hope is that they decommission it into a museum and replace it precisely because they want an Enterprise they can't lose. That or it's MIA and not destroyed.

I'm looking at the Enterprise contest to design not just a new flagship but the first of a new class of playable ships. That's why I care about boff layout and such. You are looking at the ship as just a flagship.

I do agree the Enterprise should have largely hidden weapon slots rather than look like a tank.

Even the Dominion Wars pale beside the furball the Feds are in now. The Klingons or the Borg alone would be bad enough, we have both wars going at once, with the shapeshifter Undine to stir the pot. Every ship right now would be a warship. Trek ships don't demand we have weapons bristling around them to be mean in a fight fortunately. If the Enterprise is a class of playable ships, we will be flying them on the front lines as well.

That's not the purpose of the contest at all. The contest stems from the fact that some people wanted the Ent J in the game. Since that couldn't happen CBS and Cryptic came up with the idea of introducing the F to the game as a fan contest. It will be another T5 cruiser, no different then any other T5 class.

The difference between canon and the game is that the Federation has tons of warships in the game. They're called the Escort Type. Where there used to be one ship (the Defiant) there are now over a dozen Classes of Escorts spread across the tiers. The Enterprise isn't an Escort/Warship. It's an exploration ship that is also good in combat: basically what all Cruisers are/were. The Enterprise has always been a symbol of the Federation, and that symbol is not one of war.

I didn't mean to say the Enterprise wouldn't be a cruiser. I meant a new class in the same vein that the Galaxy or Excelsior is a class of cruiser.
