If the Klingon side would only consist of Klingons, I'd agree - but unlike Starfleet it is more an alliance than a single faction, so species-specific ships are not only okay, they are long overdue.
I pretty much thing that wasn't specifically said otherwise on screen is a possibility. It was never said that Starfleet under no circumstances uses ships other then the standard saucer-nacelle design, or Andorian or Vulcan vessels. In fact I find it hard to believe that the always use the "Earth"-centric designs (though that has clearly been the case on screen.)
Actually, non-Klingon ships would have been a nice way to bring K-side ships to a number equaling that of the Federation, so I hope that these three ships won't be the last. Ideally, a Gorn/Nausicaan/Orion player should be able to fly a Gorn/Nausicaan/Orion ship right from the start.
I find it highly questionable that Orions would command Klingon ships and Klingon crews, or vice versa - except of course it was never shown on screen how the KDF integrates conquered or allied races into their fleets, so this approach might be "true".

One Federation, one Starfleet. It'd be contrary to the very principles of the Federation to forego a unified organization, with a unified Starfleet Command and a uniform administration of the pooled resources.
And no, it was never said on-screen, but I am surprised that this would even be considered necessary. There have been numerous occasions where such "national forces" would have assisted Starfleet, after all. Where were they during the entire Dominion War, for example? The Borg attacks? The attempted Romulan invasion of Vulcan?

With the exception of exchange officers from an allied government in TNG/DS9, we have seen zero non-Klingons as warriors on KDF ships, which gives a pretty clear impression that is reinforced by TOS on occasions such as the Klingon occupation of Organia. Soft-canon explains that conquered species are forbidden to take up arms and join the military, which seems fitting.
On the other hand, it is known that Klingons do sell their ships to other stellar empires (an example would be the infamous trade of a dozen D-7 cruisers to the Romulans) or even private dealers (TNG, that one Ferengi, whatshisname), so it might seem possible that the Gorn would try to replace ships lost in the war with purchases from the Klingon Empire.
All in all, I'd agree - it should be more restrictive. But I suppose this would have been too complicated (K-side would need as many ships as the Feds, plus special mechanics to simulate species-specific options), and the MMO target audience is usually averse to the idea of maintaining atmosphere/immersion when it means they will be deprived of "fun" and "cool" possibilities.
Just look at what happened to the Warcraft-setting. Don't say I didn't warn ya.
I think Valias point was highlighted by the "already". The KDF is already much shorter on ship options than the Federation, hence the reason they started giving us Gorn, Orion and Nausicaan ships. Yet the Federation is already getting the same treatment when they have more ships than most players know what to do with.
Yes, they have more options than they know what to do with....Right now it seems we will be short on options when they come out with the ships..I have this feeling they will TRIBBLE us up somehow....
I swear I saw something in the last week from a Dev about this...
Regardless, allow me to add my "Son I am disappoint" to this discussion, I was hoping for something distinctive at Lvl 51... and frankly, T05 is the only tier that doesn't have multiple variations too, so lets throw two more Lvl 41 sashes in the mix as well.
I would however like to add, I hope we can adjust the color of a lvl 51 sash... Particularly if it winds up being the long, sleeveless coat we see on NPCs.

The only thing on the slate is a Vet reward jacket (something about "Shoulder Pads with attached Cloak" whatever that means).
We still are not getting a lvl 51 rank symbol that I'm aware.

In fairness cryptic is clearly trying to add stuff to klingon side tho it will never be as good as the fed side. That said ... i want an LG uniform as well lol
I just wanted my cool Generals coat man....
and my 200 day vet Uniform while im on the subject.....what they have done, the new ships(that you have to pay for , BTW), blah blah blah...its irrelevant to my issue...I just want the perks my Fed gets...thats all. I dont want flowers, the moon, a new car....not even a dollar...just a new suit:D
Well, I think that the Klingons are probably going to get a lot of good stuff. Both Gozer and Stahl are big Klingon supporters, and you can see that the Klingons are definitely getting some nice stuff. You have the other factions ships (Orion, Gorn, etc) along with the Retrofit Vor'cha and the retrofit BOP. Gozer is also working on a Targ Breeding mini-game that will be similar to the Tribble one, and Klingons are getting their own form of crafting and anomaly gathering (or to be more accurate, stealing). And now with the Foundry coming out, Klingons will have an infinite amount of player-made missions that will give XP.
With all this new stuff, I might just invest in a Klingon Captain.

I have, and they are the highest order of suck that I have seen since the first versions of the Fed retrofits hit tribble. My advice? wait until you see the Nausicaan ship come out in december before doing anything. As well, wait until season 3 hits and people show you their veteran rewards before rolling a KDF toon. We have SOME feedback but it's cryptic at best (lol...play on words...hahahaha...anyway).
while I am on the subject, when will we receive a concept art or screen shot for some of this new vet reward or such for the KDF side? Everybody says it'll be cool, but then againm that's what they said about the ships...While they look pretty, they function like ...well, like Edsels.

I recently discovered the sashes and made a thread about the color yesterday. Perhaps you could show your support here:

Have you tested the new ships?
