Memory Alpha 'Research & Development' Tutorial bugged?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Hi,

I just started leveling my new toon from the start, and decided to level my MA skills up at the same time. I went to MA and completed the Scientific Mandate mission, and was offered the 'Research & Development' mission. I'd never this done before and I have t know how stuff in MA works for my fleet position.

I figured it was new, so I went through it and collected 3 samples, plus a power cell and was told to upgrade the cell at the R&D console in the main hall. I tried and was given the message 'You do not have enough Scanned Artifact'. I have 1 in my inventory, and it shows up on the R&D panel.

Bug filed under ticket 991645

Thanks.

Same here. I dropped the mission and found I couldn't drop the components. I reacquired the mission and when the scan and take the artifact part came up it wanted me to scan and take the obsolete power cell only. Then it would give me the message the OP reports when the Fabricate button was clicked.

Then I rt-clicked on each component and chose USE. They moved around in my inventory and now clicking the Fabricate button does nothing.

LOL!!! I dropped the mission so I could do some crafting and I bought some supplies. 20 medium hypos, 20 medium power cells, etc.... Then I thought I would make better shields for my away team so I clicked to buy the lvl 2 shields.... and ended up with 20 shields in my inventory.

Something is definitely borked here. :(

Having the same issues, OP. I have everything the recipe calls for and it still says that I don't have enough Scanned Artifact. I bug reported it in game and got the canned response in short order. Hopefully somebody will take a look at this when folks get back to the offices tomorrow.

Having completed the Introductory mission for Memory Alpha (successfully) I see that people are having 2 issues here...
    1. Only 'Scanned Artifacts' from 'General Storage' work, and not collected 'Anomalies'. You have to go to all the 'Artifact' tables in General Storage and collect them all before proceeding (should be a mission point for each one)
    2. There is no error message if no item is selected when crafting the 'Upgraded' Power Cell. (There is only 1 item in the menu, but it still needs to be selected by clicking on it before hitting the 'Fabricate' button)

Informative for those who may simply be doing it wrong, yet unhelpful for those actually experiencing the bug. I, for instance, have all four items for the crafting in question, and I still get the 'You don't have enough Scanned Artifact' error message despite having the requisite items right there in my inventory. The issue is that something has bugged since the last patch, apparently, not that we're doing the mission wrong.

After trying the 'R&D Intro' with my other charcters, I was finally able to duplicate the issue with two of my more advanced characters. The 'pattern' I see so far is that if a charcter is a 'Crafting Virgin', the 'R&D Intro' can be completed successfully, but if a charcter already has 'Crafting' experience, it is not possible to 'Fabricate' the 'Upgraded Energy Cell'...

That's not quite it either. The character I'm having the issue on has never crafted a thing in her Vulcan life. Two of my other characters have done some crafting to a greater or lesser extent, but not that one. This was the first time I'd done the R&D mission on any character, however, as I didn't recall having seen it before.

And another issue I've discovered, is that if you drop the mission (due to a unsuccessful 'Fabrication') IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DISCARD the SCANNED DATA and OBSOLETE POWER CELL objects from your inventory...

Yup, see Mikus' post above on that one. He tried a number of things. This one has just gone several kinds of screwy at once.

Weird, I've got a similar issue, except I don't get the error - pressing Fabricate doesn't do anything.

Make sure to bug report these in game and try to include the ticket number when you post here, that way the devs will be able to refference the reports more quickly and they're less likely to get lost in the shuffle.

I have to ask what good do the ticket numbers do in game anyways? Because the search feature that supposed to let you just type them in, and then click the button that says "i have this issue too" doesn't even work either. Yes I have put in a report for this too, and its been this way since launch and its still broken.

In game, not so much, what with the whole search thing being borked for so long. They're tracking numbers, though, and the bug reports -do- go through ... into the big pile of other such reports. Bug in game -and- reporting here with the in-game tracking number is a higher profile than a lone bug report, though: devs that read the bugs forum can use that information to look up much more quickly.

And 'In-Game' Bug reporting provides a far higher level of detail about the problem then what could be posted in the Forums, so providing the Bug Number will help the Devs track down what is causing the issue...

all that is true but until this is fixed people should stiop *****ing when several prople make new reports for the same bug becouse we cannot otherwise report the issue at all. so really the thing that is wasting all of our time is stating how much of a waste of ours and developers time.

Haven't seen that in this thread so far, actually, nor have I seen more than one thread on this issue. Have there been a lot of them that I'm just missing?

I was being preemptive and just saying it before someone started that lame don't double post bugs reports because I get really tiered of hearing it.

that being besides however has the tutorial been fixed yet my tact is stuck wasting her time until it is.

This was likely related to the same issue that was causing problems when buying stacks of items. Crafting uses some of the same back-end UI as stores, and as a result if you had purchased a stack of items and then tried to craft the item for the tutorial R&D mission, you would get a message saying that you couldn't do it because the game thought you were trying to make multiple items. Since the bug with buying stacks is fixed, you shouldn't have any trouble with this.

Sooo... after this quest was fixed, I managed to do it and get rid of the samples.
But I still have an Obsolete Power Cell that I can't Discard or Sell. And obviously the quest didn't want it so..
I tried getting a GM to delete it, but he/she just made that into a bug report.
Any chance of getting my inventory slot back any time soon? :p

Though this glitch is fixed it seems that a new one has developed. T'pern doesn't seem to want to accept the upgraded power cell, no matter how may times I have dropped the mission. Anyway, I have yet to make a ticket because I am going to leave the mission and see if being out of the instance for awhile will give the NPC time to fix itself, at least that is what the listed suggestion was. Anyway, if anyone else if having this problem and it has been fixed, I'd appreciate an answer or a point in the right direction! If it doesn't work the next time I try it I'm gonna file a ticket.

I tried doing this. I had the components, (but no powercell).
I hit fabricate and received nothing. I dont think I purchased the power cell prior to fabricate. Now I seem to be stuck and cannot reset the mission or collect the items I need. Help.

well, I just got the fabricate thing to work, but T`Pren won't allow me to give her finished product, not going to bug base it, I think it will already be done, just frustrating with number of glitches I coming across and missions I am ditching to do something else.

I'm having the same issue. I did the quest up to the point of turning in the power cell, but the NPC just says her basic greeting and doesn't let me turn in the cell. I dropped the mission and got it again, and when I got to the fabricate step I didn't even get to fabricate the cell. It detected I already had one and just jumped me forward to the turn-in portion of the mission. So now I'm stuck with 5 un-discardable items taking up space and a mission I can't complete.

Since the friday patch T'Prenn is working fine again. Only problem is that people that droped the mission and started it again (like me) can't get the extra stuff discarded.
    Any help / advices ?

Actually, she still isn't taking my power cell.

I'm instructed to start over, by taking another schematic. Since I already have an Upgraded Power Cell AND another schematic and materials to make another cell, I'm not going that route.

    It's still bugged.
