24th century skins for T5 Excelsior

There is a lot of debate regarding the new T5 Excelsior. The dev team can address many of those issues by simply giving skin options to the owners.

Consider: why isn't anyone complaining about Constitution class and Excalibur class? People have the ability to choose!

Just make a more 24th century-like skin for the T5 Excelsior. The Typhoon class can be easily used for that, its already ready, and it has been seen firing three-torpedo salvos.

They'll never use the Typhoon for the Excelsior. Never, ever, ever. :)

Well, maybe NOT the Typhoon, I just gave an example. But, I think the idea is simple enough.

There are two kinds of trek fans: fans of the original series and movies (except ST: The motion picture) and fans of the Next Generation and movies (except ST: Generations). This caters to both crowds.

There are two types of Star Trek fans: those who like to say "There are two types of Star Trek fans", and those who don't.:D

There are 10 types of Star Trek fans: Those that understand binary, those that don't, those that confuse it for trinary, and those that know quaternary when they see it.

    That said...

I'd like to see the Typhoon class ingame (as a player ship), but adding it to the Excelsior wouldn't solve all the problems. People fly the Excelsior for two reasons: the appearance and the stats.

Some people really like to fly it because it looks like an excelsior and some people fly it because it has good ingame stats (and some fly it for both reasons).

Giving the excelsior a new skin will make people who like the excelsior's stats but not the current appearance very happy but the tension between people who want to fly TOS era refit ships, and those who want to see only TNG era (and more recent) ships at high levels will remain.

Um, but wasn't the Excelsior still built and used in the TNG and even the DS9 era...? ;)

Honestly, I'm all for keeping obviously outdated ships (NX, TOS-Connie) out of the game and especially higher tiers, but the Excelsior's general appearance is acceptable - although I agree that it shouldn't be able to stand up to a Sovereign. An alternative skin will not solve this inconsistency, though.

I would rather like to see a appropriate 25th Century Skin for my T5 Excelsior.
As a fan of cryptics Star Cruiser class i would like to have something similar as a Star Cruiser Skin.

A design that points into the Future, not the past.
(maybe something between the Intrepid and the Star Cruiser Class, but please no rough edges or holes.)

    Thank you for reading.

I would like a skin like this:

Keeps the classic look but with a 25th century feel.

This is a real excellent example of a (early) 25th century version of a Excelsior Class Ship.

Personally i would prefer it to be a bit sleeker, less bulky, more Star Cruiser like.
I would love if starfleets future ship designs would go into the Star Cruiser direction.

I don't want to start another discussion about Cryptic store itself, but Cryptic should make additional Excelsior skins for free, at least for those who already bought the T5 Excel.

    Thank you for reading.

With the one I posted, it still looks like an excelsior. That would keep everyone happy.

I think that or the USS Aventine would make a good skin

Hey, friends, I didn't want to offend ST community (I belong to it too!), I just said that some people like the design of the TOS or NG better, that's all (just as some people prefer Kirk or Piccard).

As a Trek fan, I don't like mixing classes from both timelines, and I'd also like to see how they will integrate the NX-01 into the game... I hope it won't be a Tier 5 ship, for Chrissakes!

The Excelsior in the 24th century IS canon: it appeared in the series, period. The debate is whether it can be as good as the Sovereign. Who knows? Is anyone a Starfleet mechanic? If she/she is, well, make me a ship, please!

I just believe that since the debate is a starship performance issue, it can be solved by a simple skin job, that will satisfy those those who believe that a century-old retrofit can't be as powerful as the 30-year-old Sovereign.

Can you imagine the next round of debates if that skin is adopted, and it is the Ambassador?
    THAT WAS A JOKE!!!!!!!

A good thing to do, in all seriousness, would be to slap a Cryptic 25th century skin on the Excelsior stats and put that in the basic game, with the T5 Excelsior skin adding on to that... but of course then there's no good reason to pay 1500 CP for it since it no longer has unique BO capabilities and stats

The excelsior is every good as she has been shown to be from canon. updated and armed to the teeth. It is a dangerous ship as the defiant found out. While the soverign is an advance ship with abilities to fire quantum and photon torpedoes from different lanchers the excelsior has abilities just like the soverign.

In Canon at lest one of them got upgraded with the best weapons the feds had. In the DS9 show Homefront.
The USS Lakota (NCC-42768) not only got a upgrade but no change in appearance was made to the ship. There many canon examples of ships being upgraded but with no appearance change.

In the DS9 episode Tears of the Prohpets there are plenty of Execlsiors fighting on front lines.
It seems the design was able to have plenty of Upgrade since it's creation.

I find that the ship ingame has an amazing layout for consoles and specially with it's Lt.Comd BOff slot.
The ship would be better improved if they gave us new skins for it, not like new Excelsior skins but let's say the Sovereign Refit is actually just a skin for the Excelsior.

That would make sense given the ship would be have better tactical officer and better turn rate without having to actually change all that much or making people pay another 1200c points for something similar the Excelsior.
Which by any right is basically the Fed Battlecruiser at the moment.

Even if that new Andorian ship they're planning is just a skin for the Excelsior I'd be very pleased, given how good the tactical setup it.

I just want my imperial skin for the excelsior.
I just can't live with the thought that a 200y + ship outdamages newer ships like the noble or imperial class... Especially since the ltcmdr tac is far better than the lt cmdr eng.....

The Lakota (NCC-42768) is th only to have been fited with the newest weapons. Thay note she got quantum torpedo and a big upgrade in sheilds and weapons. There tons of Exceliors class ships in the TNG timine but they Lakota (NCC-42768) had state of the art weapons systems for the TNG timeline.

Ugh, the skin for the excelsior is brutally uglly. Even the fishbowl ship looks better. If there is an uglier ship in Star Trek i've never seen it. In game it looks even uglier. Its also *WAY* too tiny to have that kind of hull strength. Its like 1/6th the size of a galaxy and has the same hull strength (T5 versions anyway).

If the skin was changed to look like ... not TRIBBLE, I could call it a Pocket Battleship and pretend that it wasn't a 200 year old garbage scow.

Why are people incapable of shutting up about the Aventine for five minutes? I've seen dozens of threads demanding it be included. This is a thread about the Excelsior. It needs an appearance upgrade that looks similar to its old look. It does not need the Aventine look. In fact, I hope the Aventine never gets added to the game just to upset all the people who won't shut up about it.
