Bonus C-Points for Buying Bulk Point amounts.

After glancing at the prices of the C-Store. I think it's sad that you can buy 5000 Points for 62.50, Yet there's no benifit for doing that. There's no extra points if you do that. No saving of money and getting more bang for your buck, so to speak.

I don't find that very appealing.. And I'm wondering if it's ever been considered to change that? It doesn't have to be alot of a bonus, but if your basically buying the $6.25/500 points only x10 maybe you should get a bonus of say 1,000 points for buying such a LARGE amount of points in bulk? (Total points being 6,000 instead of 5,000) And the smaller the bulk, the less of a bonus of Cryptic Points it could be, with there being no real bonus at all for the $6.25/500 point option.

Until I rechecked the C-Store and thought harder about it, I was considering buying the 62.50 Bulk points. But with it being no difference then just buying the $6.25 points 10 times, I start to wonder why bother?

You're looking at it like a purchase. It isn't. It's a monetary conversion. Travel to Japan and see if they'll slip you an extra thousand yen for converting $50 instead of $10.

Does Japan make money by converting your money into their money?

This is a game, run by a company, not another country.

You are buying said points. Not converting your money directly into their points. Otherwise I could tell Cryptic I'd like money returned to me for unused points.

IF I go to a store where they sell items in bulk, typically they give a deal of some kind for buying more of the item. Either in a discoounted price, or an increased amount of what I'm buying.

Really? There is no benefit of buying in bulk? Damn - I bought a whole ton of c points assuming I would get a discount for buying as many as I could in one purchase. I just never bothered to see if I got a discount. I won't be buying in bulk in future then...

You're buying said points the same way you buy Japanese yen when converting money. Or the same way you buy a gift card from any store on the planet, or the same way a pre-paid Visa works. You put money in, and you can then spend it later. No one is going to give you more money than you gave them, just for giving a lot at once.

Again, this isn't Japan. And this isn't money conversion. Because once again, if it were, I could walk up to Cryptic and request any unspent credit be transfered back into real money.

Let's look at this in a different perspeective where in other situations, buying in bulk does grant you some sort of a benifit for spending the extra money:

Buying more on monthly games, for example, reduces the monthly cost if you do it in large instalments. Normal Monthly fee 14.99. 3 Months 41.97 (13.99 a Month), 6 Months 77.94 (12.99 a Month), 131.88 (10.99 a Month)
Would you rather Spend the 14.99 every month, or would you rather purchase the bulk (provided you could afford it) of 131.88 a year?

Another game I've played in the past, and still play on occation, does give you a bonus just for buying the bulk item of points.

Also, I'm not demanding that Cryptic follows the same policy. I just think it might give more incentive towards purchasing Cryptic points in larger quanities then buying them in smaller amounts.

OK, go back to the gift card example. Can you refund the unspent portion of those? No. Do they give you extra money for free? No. It's the exact same situation here.

Do you get multipacks of soda? Similar idea. Offer a discount so people spend more in one go.

Can you sell or trade your extra C-Store points to someone? NO, so therefore it is a different situation.

If you care to think that, go ahead. But the fact is that everything on the C-store is priced where it is because Cryptic/Atari expect to be paid that amount for that item. They might do a sale sometimes, but they will not just give you money for free.

Everything on the C-Store is priced how Cryptic wants it. But that doesn't mean that there is a reason to buy the larger bulk amount of C-points if the prices are all basically the same.

The only reason is so that they don't have to charge your card ten times if you want to buy a lot. It's a pain for everyone involved.

Did somebody forget that Cryptic is also a business and that the C-store is for OPTIONAL extras? By not issuing bonus points they make more money by forcing you to buy extra (which is fair play). And I know your going to go into the "But if they did...XYZ" argument, but tbh I don't really care about that side as you can't throw any numbers or statistics at me because they DON'T EXIST.

The only time I would say that Crytpic could ever even consider issues any type of bonus points (After being bought) is when you reach a major milestone and buy something like 50k CP) and then maybe the system would give you a thank you e-mail and apply say 2k points to the account.

Remember that magic word "Business", which is closesly followed by "Investors" who Crytpic have to make smile on a monthly basis ;).

I think they should offer such a discount. I think it might even make them more money. There is no conversion back to real money, which means once you have bought your bulk of points, you _have_ to spend it.
Theoretically, Cryptic doesn't have to care whether you spend your bulk of points or not - they already got your money.
But - if you still got a heap of C-Store points, wouldn't you want to spend them, as a player? If there isn't anything now, maybe there is one in 1 or 2 months. If there is one in 1 or 2 months, you need to stay subscribed to use them.

Investing in C-Store Points is a sign that a player might stay around for a little long. Encouraging him to spend more points encourages him to stay longer to get something out of those points.

I think the one thing I find funny, is that there are people AGAINST the Idea of what I suggested.. Sheesh.. you'd think everyone would like the Idea of either a discount, or a bonus for buying the bulk size of points offerend..

I agree with all you've said bud !..this ain't Japan. Cryptic/Atari should do ANYTHING to get more
money if the fans want it..it's called 'supply & demand'..the basis for democracy.

IF they gave us say '100 for every 1000' points purchased..heck I'd buy 5000 right now.
jeez,it's not what I could buy for the extra 500 points,,it's the principle that I got them for 'free'
,,,not much around we really want for 500 is there ? ;)

,,,this game is about fun..and I'm willing to pay for it. It's all about the money folks. It makes the
    world go round.

Exactly. Why buy the big 5000CP pack when you can just get the small 500CP 10x (for example) unless they give some incentive to buy in bulk? Let's look at Turbine's store model. They offer different size TP bundles...but the more you purchase in one go the more they give you as a BONUS. Hell, they even give you ways that you can earn more FREE in-game. While they don't have to, I think that it is a good gesture to those who want to support the game by giving out some more as a bonus...not a whole lot, but something extra.

It would apear allot of the people who play STO have payed attention to how Crytpic works and are realists, they won't because they have no need to and those who are speaking against it are trying to explain why they won't in a very roundabout way.

I'm not against it, I just understand the way the wind blows and that marketing gets too big a say at Crytpic HQ :D

You know... I only buy C-Points when I run out, and it's very rare when I do run out of C-Points, so the question is... how much are buying from the C-Store that is making you cry about the price? If you can't afford it... you shouldn't spent your money on it.

    It's not that I can't afford it.

I just don't see an incentive to buy large bulk amounts of C-Points.

For example, I was thinking of getting the Galaxy-X. But it's basically, flat out, worth $25. Because your basically buying the 2000 Points for 1 ship. And spending all 2000 points for that purchase.

Not $25 and getting say 2500 Points giving 2000 points for the Ship and having 500 points left over..

The incentive is not having to buy the 500 point pack four times just to buy that one 2000 point item.

Not much of an incentive, then, is it? Just sayin'.

Well I did get bonus point's on my last purchase! How? I got them just before the Labor Day Sale. Then when it all went on sale I bought up the item's I'd been thinking of geting. I'll bet they'll prob have another simular deal sooner or later. So if your not in a big hurry for the item's just wait. After all I know I could use the money in my pocket till more stuff's added then goes on sale...

PS: I added up what I wanted and just got enough to pay for it all. Oh plus had some left so I got the spiffy Sehlat with leftover's...

Based on past history, they'll offer a sale for most of the major US holidays. A little birdie named dstahl told us that there might be a costume sale around Halloween, and I'm certain that there would be a full-blown sale during Christmas (and possibly something even during Thanksgiving).
