I do not consider this resolved, and am peeved with Cryptic for charging me ~$25 in illegal taxes, but the law does not require they refund me the money, it provides no recourse for it's return, except through lawsuit. And obviously the amount is not worth it, especially since there is a work around.

Just this last weekend I purchased more Crytic Points. Instead of using my on-file CC, I paid using a CC through PayPal. I was not charged tax.

Cryptic might not have an office in Europe, but Atari does(I'm almost certain they have). As Atari owns Cryptic, Atari is probably the ones who handles VAT for Cryptic in th EU.

You might have to contact Atari EU for an explanation or a refund...

    Wrong.
Each company has to have an unique VAT number which is communicated on every invoice. When the name changes, the number too.

You only need one VAT-number for EU tough, not one for each country.

But still, the company that charges the fee is the one which needs a VAT-number.

On a sidenote, I also bought points using Paypal and didnt have to pay tax, to bad paypal went bad and folded down when US told them to close wikileaks account, so now I have to close my paypal account.

How can you tell if your past C-Point purchases were taxed?

(I live in a state where there is no sales-tax)

I love paying taxes, because that means more funds will go to universal healthcare, roads, railways, schools and so on. Although our current government don't like me to pay taxes. They want me to pay high fees for everything mentioned above instead. Then they can sell all the schools, hospitals etc to make a small profit to put in their own (and their friends') pockets.

I'm also cutting my VISA and Mastercard. Allowing sending money to KKK but not Wikileaks is not OK in my book.

Thank you for catching this and bringing it to our attention I'll be checking my own purchases for such a tax as well.
