In my opinion, the Klingon Empire is in a state of hemorrhagic shock.
And while there is some gauze on the worst wounds, this patient is still dying.
I just can't sit by any longer and not say something about this.
I am and have been a Feddy-bear since the beginning, and no, I don't PvP...
Why, you may ask?
Because there's no compelling reason for me to, that's why. Marks of Honor just don't do it for me.
Territory control? Risk-type map with constantly changing battle-lines based on player action?
Well, now that would be a different matter completely.
Oh, goodness. Did I just suggest an MMO where player action influences the larger outcome of the meta-game?
Beyond that, I'm not going to belabor reasons why or give long-winded ideas on how to "fix" it. There have been hundreds of ideas that have been proposed by both active and former members, most who have now long departed for other games out of frustration.
You didn't listen to them then, but I certainly hope for all our sakes you begin to listen now.
Give Klingons a compelling reason to play the game and they will come. This will give Federation players a reason to play as well to balance them. In short, save the Empire and you will save the Federation.
My name is Ithaqua of the Knights Templar Fleet and I stand with all remaining members of the Empire.
First off to perhaps get rid of this disagreement what the KDF is and what it is not:
Has anybody considered going back to the beginning?
To the original analogy what the Klingon Empire was supposed to be in The Original Series?
They were supposed to be Soviets in Space.
And the Praxis explosion was supposed to be their Tschernobyl.
Since the Klingons are once again at war with the Federation we are once again thrown back
to the 1960's, so to speak.
But this time the Klingons are not the monolythic block from The Original Series.
Instead those who serve in the KDF are somewhat more like the members of the Warsaw Pact.
Not all the same, not entirely identical, all with their own goverment but united against common enemies.
And just like Russia was in the Warsaw Pact, the Klingon Empire is the biggest contributor.
And now to the topic at hand:
It is frustrating that there are som many ideas floating around in these forums, like Darren_Kitlor's
ideas for RvR, the House War system or the various proposals for new ships and systems but when we are lucky it is being considered.
The real silver lining I do see right now is the community that has not given up.
Ideas like NemoSD's "Klingon Faction Day" may do more than any Engneering Report that tells us what might come for us in the next...ummm...time.
I too would like the Klingon Empire saved.
I am a Federation Captain and currently have no fear of Klingons. I have heard that you are noble warriors and worthy adversaries but I have not had the pleasure of experiencing that. I look forward to the day when Cryptic will give me an Empire to fear.
Enough role-playing.
We need to make the Klingon Empire important.
I like the idea mentioned in a post above about having a sector between the Klingon and Federation areas that can be fought over. I propose that it would contain an odd number of planets (3) and each planet would have both a space and ground map (one area could be be around a gas giant so there would be one less ground map than space maps so we would maintain an odd number of maps total).
During week one after this launches, the area is neutral. Which ever faction has the most control points after 7 days becomes the new owners of the entire sector. The benefit of this would be increased rewards for defending it during the next week. We could also have cosmetic differences for the ground maps (faction logos and such) to show which faction owns the sector.
Other ideas to improve the Klingon Empire:
No federation Cloaking
Allow Klingons in nearly all sectors.
More missions.
More ships.
Cryptic, please make the Klingon Empire an equal to the Federation in terms of content and I will believe you will be capable of creating a Romulan faction.
Guys- you have no idea what an old topic this is. Seriously, I'm going to be reading about how the KDF is in trouble a year from now and it will still be comprised of the same 4 Klingons.
Everyone screamed about saving the klingons back in may and they were incapable. It's over. Let go.
Yes, it certainly is an old topic. A topic that has been gone over-and-over again by people who were hoping for a robust faction vs faction game. A game that encouraged player interaction, strategy, planning and coordination.
Well, we didn't get that game. And now, well, be the judge yourself. We're only a pittance of our previous numbers (IMO). Why - I think because there's no replay value, no meta-game, to encourage people to log in and track what's going on. This and the fact that most of the Klingon pseudo-faction side was never designed to be a real faction, but just monster play just killed it.
It's my hope that it's not too late. I certainly would like to see this game suceed for many years and I just don't see how that can happen without some deeper level gaming coming to pass here. I certainly hope that the devs can *finally* get the hint that if they can make the Klingons into a robust faction and encourage some meta-gaming that it will only make STO stronger.
