C-store pricing

I'm wondering. if the price for the retrofit ships was lowered to about $5 USD (I don't know the euro equivalant) would the players here be less PO'd?

NO… And it’s because they are making me buy new goodies for cool when there are not yet enough cool goodies in the normal pay to play game.

I'd go from "this is the last straw" to a calm "cmon bring on the new content the C-store was meant to fund".

I wouldn't be a totally happy camper, but my sub wouldn't be cancelled either.

yeah, a whole month's worth of game is how much the Excelsior cost?

If they lose a sub due to this dumb decision, what's the loss on that when coupled with what they thought they were gaining with the Excelsior? $30 and then some?

dont fool yourself thinking a cancelled sub will matter, financially, to Cryptic. The lost sub fees pale in comparison to the ch-ching they can rake in off the life support group of trekfans that will pay almost anything for things that remind them of their favorite ST moments.

So wait are you implying that you canceled your sub over the excelsior refit being a c-store item?

I think you overestimate the C-Store. dstahl has suggested that some items on there haven't made back the cost of the development that went into making them either due to price or maybe because they weren't really hotly demanded. I think the only races that were considered big successes on the C-Store were Caitians and Pakleds.

I also think that's why the C-Store seems more targeted at cheap to buy, simple reskins and big expensive things now.

I'd still be personally offended by the promises made and broken, especially given that I actually defended Cryptic's stated MT policies for the brief window in which STO actually adhered to them. I feel used.

Are you saying that you approve of investing in a company that can't uphold promises to not introduce content into the C-Store that uniquely offers an advantage in game to players with the willingness to buy?

What is the advantage with the Excelsior in its current form? I thought they nerfed it once already so people didn't feel it had an advantage.

    There is no advantage.

Actually I believe the wording they used was they would only introduce things into the C-store that had ingame equivalents, and thats what the Excelsior is another Teir 5 ship.

With the few posts that ive seen describing the Excelsior in pvp that is exactly what it is, just another option. Its a squisher cruiser with more emphasis on offense rather then defense. I want to give the new ship a week before its determined its overpowered but so far it seems like its just another tier 5.

So i guess the answer to your question is at best no, since cryptic is not "a company that can't uphold promises to not introduce content into the C-Store that uniquely offers an advantage in game to players with the willingness to buy" at least with the Excelsior.

Honestly if this was your problem with the C-store you would of left long before now since nearly everything in the store has something unique about it that you cant get any other way.

No, I'm STATING that I cancelled my account over the direction the game is now going.

As a non-Cstore using customer I am now, partially, and as the trend continues, will soon be greatly, a second class "free" loader customer for expecting fun content in exchange for my montlhy payment.

(Now this is the part where you tell me the T5 Excelsior isn't neccessary for my enjoyment, where, in fact, new ships and content is completely neccessary for my continued enjoyment. I refuse to pay Cryptic funds above and beyond my monthly fee for things that will keep me interested in playing and paying a monthly fee.)

I've already made purchases to keep my interest alive (more character slots to extend my game play allowance since I levelled up all 3 of my "free" slots very quickly).

In order to justify making new alts to extend my game time I restricted myself to 1 ship per captain. My first Captain is a Star Cruiser pilot. Wodnering how the Assault Cruiser compared I then used one of my purchsed slots to level up an AC captain (instead of just buying one for my SC captain) as a means of creating my own incentive to play.

I'm now on my 6th 1captain / 1ship (have a Star Cruiser, Assault Crusier, Fleet Escort, Advanced Escort, and Deep Space Vessel all piloted by a differnt character).

I now need a new incentive. I could start working out new BOFF crews for additional ships for each Captain . . . like for having my "final" ship and one of the new refits to switch between . . . or just make up new crew members for (what's the word? oh yeah) fun! Might even start filling out my 8 ship slots with variations on already piloted ships. Eventually, gonna need more BOFF slots, and since we don't get any for Ranking up to VA1 I will have to turn to a C-store purchase eventually to find incentive to keep playing.

I now have 6 captains all piloting a differnt version of each of the 6 T5 ships. I could be persuaded to make more character slot purchases if there were new T5 ships introduced at RA1 . . . hey whatta ya know, here's the T5 Excelsior . . . kick the tires and light the fires, only $18 dollars to havea good reason to pay $15 more dolalrs this month.

    /game over

btw, there is no text field to voice your opinions when you click the cancel sub button, but there is a BILLING / MICRO-TRANSACTION option under the "Reason for cancelling" drop down menus.

I'ld let mine expire, if all new content was c-store only

Its just a personal reason then, sorry to see you go.

All i can really say i guess is that I haven't bought the Galaxy X or the Excelsior and I don't feel like a second class citizen. I really don't understand where you are coming from with any of your reasons but we all have our different play styles and I guess the C-store is just incompatible with yours.

sorry, what I meant by "content the C-store was meant to fund" was the early justification by all the trekbois that the C-Store was absolutely neccessary because the ch-ching it generated would "fund new content".

Ya sorry, got way to wordy there. What I'm saying is,in my own personal experience with ST:O, I've had to find reasons to keep playing (nothing new in mmorgs, get bored of one area go to another, try a new class, etc) . . . and all roads lead back to C-Store at the moment and the one thing (new T5 ships at RA1) that would have kept wind in my sails has a price tag higher than my already paid monthly fee.

    In other words,

T5 Excel @ $18 . . . "This is BS, give me an in-game option thats fun to get this reward."
T5 Excel @ $5 . . . "Shrug, ok, still would have been cooler as an in-game reward."

I don't have a spread sheet to prove what dollars paid for what but didn't we get new content despite what was placed in the C-store? The the vast majority of things placed in the game since launch have been free rather then C-store items, you could make the argument that the C-store at least helped pay for that content.

5 missions and a ship you can't fly till you've completed 99% of the games content?

And if funds from the C-Store weer meant for new content, then why is the newest ship a C-store item and not just new content?

Becuase it polled at #1 on the most wanted ship poll and instead of making new content around obtaining it, they just slapped a price tag o nit and called it a day.

Well to be fair more like diplomatic corps, dabo, Klingon ship skins, the tier 5 refits, updated interfaces for several systems, new VA missions, Klingon star cluster missions, STF, ship interiors, new fleet actions, new Klingon PvE missions and upcoming weekly content. (probably more that im missing)

The new ship is in the game without spending C-store points, their is a in game obtainable teir 3 version of the Excelsior.

I think their should be an in game way to obtain the excelsior as well, I agree with you on that point.

oh, Cav . . . you forgot another important option.

    F2P + C-Store

If I wasn't paying a monthly fee I'd prolly be in-game flying my new T5 Excelsior instead of spending the day on the forums (not logging in today, doubt I could control myself on ZONE chat).

Ah, thats true. But I wouldn't benefit from that as I can't even afford to buy the MU's. lol.

I have no problem with the C-store, to a limited extent. I question whether ships that would fit canonically should be in the C-store. But things like the NX, the "J", and "X" I think fit for it. Just my opinion.

The prices to me seem a bit off for cosmetic things like uniforms and such...However for ships, I can easily see the 1200...maybe as they have been out for a while, they could lower the price..I hate waiting till things go on sale.

you can also argue my our subs paid for it because thats what they are there for.

while they have added content to the game. i remember them saying no new ships would be added to the CStore....only reskins....well the Galaxy X is not a reskin....nor is the Ex.....and in all reality all refits are not skins....the maelstrom or the imperial were reskins. They were cosmetic. The Gx and the Ex are not cosmetic but actual content.
