Gifting C-Store Purchases

I'd like to be able to use my C-Store points to purchase items for my friends - things I would never buy for myself, and that they would never pay money for, but which I am willing to buy for them.

Sound odd? Yes, but consider how many stores out there live off this type of sale... the entire concept of a "gag gift" is unthinkable if people only bought what they or their friends actually wanted, to say nothing of Christmas shopping and birthday gifts. And yes, I know you've had your eye on that Golden Tribble for a while...

It seems like a win-win situation, really:
  • Players get to buy gifts for their friends
  • Cryptic makes sales that they might not have otherwise

The only potential downside I can see is security-related:
  • Increased potential for damage if a security breach occurs (account TRIBBLE/stolen -> C-Store credits purchased using cached payment info -> Items "Gifted" to people via third-party site coordinated transactions)

    I really like this idea. As a Fleet Admiral for First Starfleet Regiment I want to be able to in some way reward my fleet for above and beyond the call of duty. I feel as though this would be a great way of doing so.

    I am all for this also it may be nice to just give a buddy a little gift now and then lol.

    Maybe the simplest implementation would be the ability to buy Cstore Vouchers on the cstore which you can send via ingame mail. Or maybe you can just buy vouchers for items.

    This is a great idea! I would love to get some of my friends stuff like extra costume slots as a gift.

    Steam; and I think a couple F2P games I've played, have this option - it's really a good idea all around.

    Yes this very good idea. buying that ship for you favorite Star Trek nut. Some version of this would be great.With some of speicla E-mail or something saying X gave you X. What good is giving if the people you give it to do not know amout it.

    I'd like to see that idea implemented.

    the way i'd like to see it happen is like this:

    You purchase something with the gift-option, get the points deducted and receive a text-code, then you can hand the code to a friend to register with the page (like a preorder item) for the cstore item, or have the option to use the code yourself to turn it back to points -- in case the friend doesn't want that gift.

    They should sell Cryptic Point cards like they do Game Time cards. I'm not going to go out and buy Cryptic Points for myself, but you know, if a buddy that knows I like and play STO wants to buy me a Cryptic Point gift card for my birthday and/or Christmas I would certainly put the points to good use.

    I like this idea myself. I bought the game for my dad who is also a big Startrek fan and we play it together. I'd be happy to buy a few items for him like bridge packs, ships, and costumes, should Cryptic decide to offer that option. :)

    If it was something like costume slots, he'd just get more. If it was something limited like a Borg boff, it would be best to apply the CP value of that item to the friend's account so he could buy something else he doesn't already have.

    I too would like to gift C-Store items to friends.

    My Dad plays, and I have two friend referrals, plus new friends I've made in game, and fleetmates, etc. With the holidays coming up, I could foresee this being a nice gift.

    Buying a C-Point Gift Card would be great.

    Maybe an easy way to do it would be to add a C-Point Purchasable Code in the C-Store. You buy the item for X number of C-Points and it mails you one those 25-digit alpha numeric codes that you can give to anyone, that they can type into the STO website's Redeem Key page, and receive X CP. Just an idea.

    Regardless of the exact implementation, being able to purchase C-Store items for friends would be awesome!
