Does anyone think that the ships listed in the C-Store are ridiculously expensive?? Especialy that this game was once $60 and now its $20... Gal-X $25, Retro Fits: $15.... so on and so forth. So the whole game now is $20 and the ships are from $10 - $25... doesn't make any sense. Does anyone agree? O and we're not even talking about the 1 year or lifetime subs...
Just in case I want to point out that the money per say is irrelevant its just about the game price vs the prices of additional content... that bugs me...

O yea I know.... still it is a major TRIBBLE for people who would buy them... since you brought up the emblems... which emblems do they refer to trade for the retro fit?
I would hardly call 500 Emblems Free. I can think of much more enjoyable uses of my time as opposed to grinding the same bland, repeatable content over and over gain.

soooo you want it to be more free than free? I get the feeling some people would only be happy if they logged in to find these ships instantly ported into their ship list.
It would be consensual because they are making the choice to buy them. Cryptic is not forcing them to buy it.
Yea of course... but they are capitalizing on the opportunity that for example i get the gal refit with the token and then i would want the intrepid too... then what? do the same missions over and over again for 500 emblems? Ouch

You can earn emblems at VA1.
You cannot use any of the refits until you reach Vice Admiral 1 - and you can get one for free then.
Once you reach that rank, there are no less than 4 ways of earning emblems:
Exploration
STFs
Fleet actions
PvP
Essentially, it's paying for an unlock to lateral options (you're guaranteed to have free access to at least one of the ships as soon as you reach Vice Admiral 1).
So, if you play a lot, you can get all three ships for free.
The reason this was done is that Cryptic couldn't justify the creative costs of the refits (new approval, licensing, dev time, testing time, etc.), unless:
a) they were in the c-store
or
b) you could earn them over time.
Did you not read my first Sentence? 500 Emblems is not free. Its is an insipid, tedious waste of time. I could stomach, say 50 Emblems for a Ship (and the Mark standard of 7 for weapons, and 50 for Gear).
I get the feeling some people would only be happy if they logged in to find these ships instantly ported into their ship list.
Reading skills would be useful. I, in no way, stated or implied I wanted the ships automatically. I did imply that 500 emblems is too much.
Yea of course... but they are capitalizing on the opportunity that for example i get the gal refit with the token and then i would want the intrepid too... then what? do the same missions over and over again for 500 emblems? Ouch
well they are capitalizing on it yes. ( thank you capitalist society ) But it is not forced. ( you used the word TRIBBLE, and if it was put in context of this issue then it would not be TRIBBLE. )
as for the 500 emblems. if someone wants ti bad enough, but they don't want to spend money then they can do it without money. granted it is hard, but it should be hard, you have to earn it, and they have to make money.

I understand your point but damn these ships are esentially star trek canon... plus they are recycled ships from previous tears... and with abilities they should've had in the first place. Saucer separation is almost an ability most cruisers have even the connie was designed for the separation.

!
Once again you have two ways to get them for free.
and if you must try them out, then what you need to do is transfer over to tribble, and try out the ships before you buy. ( you transfer over buy the ship, try it out. if you don't like it transfer over again until you have tried each one out, then go back to holodeck and buy the ship you want. )

You sort off missed the point about the orignal OP but I understand what you're saying... you know some people are like always in a hurry to have the latest content out there
I have exaclty done this... and I already decided to get the gal refit. Im career cruiser captain. I've tried all three classes but cruisers fit my style best.

I read it, i just disagree with you that it's not free. If i can get it without spending money then it's free, seems rather logical. I don't put a price on my free time unlike my work time.
If i can get it without spending money then it's free
You have a skewed sense of resources, of which time and money are subsets. If something is FREE it means you spent absolutely no resources on it. The closest you can get to free is if some random stranger you've never met before gave you something. The cost in either money or time for extra Retrofit ships is just too high.
I swear it must be something about the Napster-generation that makes people think that the customer has the final say on the price of things, rather than the seller.
If you think it's too much, don't buy it. It's the clearest message you can send.
If you thnk you are gonna haggle the price down (which I guess is what this thread is about...), try to be just a tiny bit more persuasive than "I think it should be less... So gimme."

It was either charging for convenience and having them available also by the free token and the 500 emblem option
or
Having it exclusively to the c-store.
There was a time investment where they'd break even, so the bean counter could look the other way and let players have a free means of earning the vessel.

As i said i don't put a price on my free time, it'd hardly be free then would it. i'm talking money, cold hard cash, green backs, dollar bills, pounds, cents, lira, rupiah, pieces of eight. do you have to put down a single one of them to get that ship?

Yes, virtual ones at least. Its called Opportunity Cost. If we could perfectly equate all resources to one resource, then we would see what the true cost of something is. We already do that, just not perfectly. It doesn't matter if you don't think about your time in dollars (At work, or off work, it makes no difference; you're still spending your time) because there's still a dollar amount that equals that time.
As it stands, the C-Store is the cheaper option, but not everybody (myself included) has the option to work more hours to get the extra spending money. Both $15 and 500 Emblems are outside of my budget, but $3 or whatever the equivalent amount of time/emblems is not.
I don't see what the problem is. You get one absolutely free when you hit Vice Admiral. The only time it costs anything is if you want the other two, in which case you either use the c-store or grind for it. If you only fly one class of ships (which makes the most sense anyway in terms of skill specs), you'll neither grind nor spend money.

That assumes everybody plays that particular way, which is a false assumption.

So philosophising about the economics of time aside; No, you don't have to pay any real world money to get it, gotcha.
Thank you for posting your feedback on this issue. However, as this forum is for general discussion of STO, and we have a forum specifically meant for giving feedback on the C-Store and Promotions, I am going to move this thread to the correct forum.

Speaking of which, why don't you move the stickied thread in Star Trek Online Discussion about how to buy Cryptic Points to the C-Store forum as well? Seeing as it has to do with the C-Store and Promotions and all.

Actually, the retrofit ships were never meant for the c-store at all. That you can buy an account-wide unlock is just another option ( and a pointless one in my opinion). The Nebula and Excelsior are for the c-store, though there was talk about making them available ingame too.
The retrofit unlock is quite expensive though. If i had unlimited respecs, i might consider the unlock to be worthwhile. And then there´s the point of flying the same ship with all toons, how boring. I´ll choose 3 toons to fly these new ships, the rest keep the "old" ones. These 3 ships will cost me nothing and i can farm a gazillion emblems just to "purple out" all my ships, boooo.

You are correct that I'm not paying money (Which, by the way, IS NOT cash; a basic economics course is recommended for everybody. Around $300 should net you the course at a community college). I am paying resources though. If you continue to dismiss the fact that Time and Money are both resources to be spent, then you can't participate in any debate about cost. This isn't philosophy, its numbers, through and through.
Money (or cash as you continue to argue, which again, is not money) is not the only resource you have at your disposal, and if something costs a resource, no matter the resource, it is not free.
EDIT: My point, plain and clear: The cost of extra Refit ships is too high, no matter the resource you use to buy it.
