Defection option?

I think a great option on the c-store would be the ability for your character to defect to another faction, from fed to klingon or klingon to fed. You would be able to bring your bridge officers with you, and possibly even whatever ships you had at that point.

It's not unheard of in star trek for starfleet to take over a klingon vessel (the voyage home) or vice versa, and we've seen defections take place also.

That would be amazing actually. Maybe we can balance out the fed vs klingon population as well, that way.

I would bet this would not be possible in-game. If your character were to "defect", you should LOSE your bridge officer crew. Taking over a vessel is not defecting.

But given the number of 'mind-reading' species in the game, would this even come close to being allowed??? And would the other side 'trust' a turn-coat???

I do not think it would be a bad option for PvP. This would help balance out the number of players per match. I have been on both sides of the numbers game in PvP 2 Feds Vs 10 Klings and vice versa. I would suggest that we might be given the option to pick which side instead of just being a fed thrown in as a kling or fed tossed in with the Feds.

Pirate or Terran Empire mode! A faction inside a faction!

I could see it now *cue wavy imagination music*

Welcome to the Empire *Pulls a disruptor and promptly disintegrates the player* you miserable traitorous dog!
Welcome to the Federation. *taps combadge* Security, you know what to do with him.

About the only defections i know of in trek ended in two ways, death or imprisonment.

I'd be fine with it if it was suitably difficult and if there was specific elements that really made you feel 'hunted down' by the faction you defected from.

Have random popins to DSE's with the faction you defected from that normal players won't get.
Make the defected players priority targets in PVP by offering something to those that kill them if they're on the faction they defected from.
Halve the rank in their new faction and halve the xp gain so as to simulate a lack of trust and a harder slog to make it to the top.
In terms of ships either get rid of them or maybe a permadeath option, once your feddie ship goes pop it's gone and it's time to go Klingon and vice versa.
Crews dissapear too, or maybe you can only pick a couple since not everyone on your ship will be happy with you giving their beloved faction the shaft.
Specific speech bubbles in general noting that you're a traitor instead of the standard 'whoah! hey look it's Captain Awesome!' speech bubbles.
Maybe even a small quest line tailored to a betrayal plot.

Just making it an 'instant BG5/RA5' button would be boring IMO.
