Dear Cryptic, there are literally hundreds of threads with enough "nerd rages" to give some of the folks heartattack. What are the threads about? It's as to whether the AGT Galaxy Cruiser will remain only through the Referral Promotion or it will eventually be accessible via C-Store.
When I cruise around with the AGT Galaxy Cruiser, the general consensus of the majority of the people who don't have the ship seems to be that they will not participate in the Referral Promotion program because they are extremely confident that the ship will eventually be available through C-Store.
Making so many of the "exclusive" items available through C-Store generated a bad precedent. Now, almost everyone seems to think that any items available through special promotion from Cryptics will be handed out later through C-Store at petty price and there's absolutely no reason to participate in these promotion.
Dear Cryptic, we beg you. Could you please give us an answer as to whether the ship will be sold in the C-Store later? It would be extremely disheartening for those who spent possibly weeks to recruit five people to get a beautiful ship (or let alone, those who spent their own money), to learn that several months from now, the ship will be available via C-Store.
Dear Cryptic, please. Give us an answer so all of us can stop arguing and move on? Just one thread of your answer will stop clogging your forum with hundreds of unneeded threads regarding this issue.
/signed me too but they have set a bad precedent by putting the exclusives in the cstore now the message is if We whine hard enough cryptic will give us what we want

I can see why some are upset over the offering of pre-order items via the C-Store after buying multiple copies but as has been pointed out numerous times the pre-order FAQ made it pretty clear they would likely be available at some point after launch. For me personally I only got one version, I looked at what I'd likely prefer and picked that. Would I have bought more copies if I had the money in order to get more of the pre-order items? No. The thought didn't even enter my mind at the time and reading that others had done so was quite baffling to me. However, that was my choice just as it was everyone elses choice to buy more than one copy if they chose to despite the pre-order FAQ stating what it does.
With regards to the referral program, and I speak for myself here even if I'm pretty sure lots of others feel similarly, I wouldn't refer anyone I know to the game because it is lacking so much right now. Even if I ignore that and went down the "I want" route doing anything to get friends into the game I'd have a difficult time because nobody I know is interested in Star Trek. It may be well known but a subscription MMO is not something everyone is willing to accept.
The referral program reward is pretty fantastic for Cryptic because it clearly has people doing whatever it takes to get referrals in when they otherwise wouldn't. The referral program is pretty pathetic because people that come in will end up where a lot of us are now in a month - stuck with a game that has a lot of bugs, some worse than others, a lack of content variation and can see you reach maximum level then sit around doing dailies waiting for future content patches.
Do I think the Galaxy X will be available at a later date? Honestly, yes. Why? It's in relatively high demand and after the referral push has been done to death with no more interest generated due to bad feelings toward it or other reasons letting a potentially large cash cow sit there unmilked is bad business. If there's one thing a lot of people like to point out it's that Cryptic is a business, they make games but they still want as much money as possible from those games.
If you look at it from that point of view here's what seems plausible to me. After a few months or more of referral only it may be released on the C-Store. Given that the TOS Enterprise was released at 800 points (madness...) and that's a T1 starter ship I'd be amazed to see it on the store for less than 5,000 points. Ignoring the cost of that it would annoy and upset anyone that's gone out to get referrals, whether they've bought the game five times and done it that way or pushed the game on friends, foes, strangers etc. Would that really matter though? I hate to be blunt and cold about it but the money generated from the spike in referrals would likely be gone and the potential loss of customers would very likely be overshadowed by income from C-Store purchases of the ship. That's my opinion and thoughts on it
letting a potentially large cash cow sit there unmilked is bad business.
This one statement is the only thing that matters, and it equates to another statement from Stat Trek lore...The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few. If people look at it that way, then the needs of the many would equal Cryptic's need to provide; seems like the logical way to do business, elitists be damned.
I for one don't care what they sell, it's their game, not ours...we only rent it for a short while.
but at the same time if i hear its going on the cstore... bye bye sto... ive played and bought a lifetime sub...but to be honest...its gettin get to the point that all the carebears which is a HUGE amount is that if they cry hard enouph youlll just do it... This item should remain exclusive to referal program. And I would also love to hear a response to this question.
on a personal note...if people want the ship...they can work for it instead of sittin on there butts and doin nothing other then purchasing cryptic points and getting gear... some things need to be exclusive "perminantly". Just my thoughts.
I've already done the work and will shortly have my Galaxy X, i would like it to remain an exclusive.....sadly i am nearly %100 percent certain it will end up in the Cstore for next to nothing within a short period of time.
This will be my experiment......IF it does show up in the Cstore then i will no longer feel the need to put forth any effort/money to obtain items when they first come out as its more economical to wait for it to show up in the cstore at a substantial reduction in pirce.
I won't cry fowl if cryptic puts it in the Cstore as they are out to make money, i don't have to like their methods. This will simply decide if i put up the time/money to obtain TRIBBLE object at release or simply bide my time and pick it up for next to nothing later.....i'm mostly just getting stuff for collection purposes.
I'm sure you guys referred people to play STO is because the game is cool and you want them to experience it for themselves right? I'm also very sure that even without any incentives, all of you would still refer people right?
I actually paid for the game/gametime for some friends so they could give it a whirl....IF they like it they can pay me back. No i honestly wouldn't try to con anyone into paying for STO at this time. Improvements are being made, but it is nowhere near the point i could justify trying to convince people to buy it right now.

There are a few things I'm wondering and maybe you'd be willing to answer.
1. Did you recommend people to join the game or buy five new copies and sub for a month?
2. If you recommended people did you recommend it because you enjoy it and think it's a good game or because you wanted the Galaxy X?
3. If you recommended people did you tell them why they had to use a referral key? Basically did you tell them you were going to get a kick TRIBBLE ship?
4. Given that Jentai admits to essentially paying for it then letting some friends play to try the game and he / she isn't looking at it as Cryptic TRIBBLE anyone over, why are you so worked up over the potential of it happening?
5. Would you feel the same if you were paying month to month subscription?
The end point I have is perhaps one that you and other lifetime members have already realised. If you quit STO over this it will have no impact on them at all since your money covers a normal monthly subscription up to around 1 1/2 years. In fact you'd likely be saving them money in doing so.

Agree completely the haves are always outnumbered by the have nots so "it will always be in cryptics best interest" to sell out

I can see why some are upset over the offering of pre-order items via the C-Store after buying multiple copies but as has been pointed out numerous times the pre-order FAQ made it pretty clear they would likely be available at some point after launch.
Please STOP with the PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVES FAQ argument. The FAQ was nowhere in the point of sale process. If something is advertised as a PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVE, there should be no question in anyone's mind that it is exclusive only to those that pre-order. Why would someone have to go to a FAQ page about that? Heck, it's even printed right on the game box:
EXCLUSIVE ! UNIQUE BORG BRIDGE OFFICER
I'm not even upset about the items going up. It's just that the FAQ argument is irrelevant. Why can't people just admit that Cryptic deliberately misled their customers. BTW, they have been known to edit their release pages. Sure, the FAQ says it NOW.
And I'd like to answer your questions too, if I may.
1. Did you recommend people to join the game or buy five new copies and sub for a month?
Neither.
2. If you recommended people did you recommend it because you enjoy it and think it's a good game or because you wanted the Galaxy X?
I wanted the Galaxy-X, and I think it's a good game. I did not recommend the game to anyone. I offered an incentive for using my key to people that had already made the decision to purchase.
3. If you recommended people did you tell them why they had to use a referral key? Basically did you tell them you were going to get a kick TRIBBLE ship?
I did if they asked. They can read all about it on the referral page which is directly linked in all referral emails.
4. Given that Jentai admits to essentially paying for it then letting some friends play to try the game and he / she isn't looking at it as Cryptic TRIBBLE anyone over, why are you so worked up over the potential of it happening?
I'm not, but it would just confirm Cryptic's lack of consideration for it's dedicated player base.
5. Would you feel the same if you were paying month to month subscription?
Yes, but I don't see what that has to do with anything.
I would buy it if it were in the C-Store along with the photonic boff, but the boff is listed as exclusive, and the ship is listed as
"A special ship: The Tier 5 "All Good Things" Galaxy Class. " on the referral page. So the boff would fall under exclusive, but that might not stop them from adding it. The Ship, because of the wording I almost am sure that it will eventually make its way into the C-Store. The boff might be just a vendor exclusive, but I would not use the word exclusive and then put it in the C-Store. The Ship looks as if it is a possibility.....
Not trying to upset anyone but they did not even use the word unique with this offer.
Please STOP with the PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVES FAQ argument. The FAQ was nowhere in the point of sale process. Cryptic came out and said they were offering the preorder exclusives, as vendor exclusives. they are still available from their respective vendors. I would agree that the FAQ does apply and is relevant. The logic is that they are still selling them with game as incentives, so its makes sense to sell the incentives alone.

Then why not list them as Vendor Bonuses? Why did they list them as Pre-Order Exclusives? You don't find that misleading or shady in the least? Why should I have to seek out a FAQ page to find out what the 'real' deal is? To me, there was no question.

Qouted for truth I have posted the same argument time after time it's ludicrous that you have to go to a webpage before buying a videogame

I'm not defending their decision by mentioning the pre-order FAQ but it is there and was there to be found. It's like a great many sites that have little 'surprise' terms hidden away that you have to hunt for yet you're bound to them. It's still relevant even if it stinks and the use of the word exclusive is like a huge many other terms used online. Unlimited with limits, exclusive that isn't always exclusive forever. I've fallen foul of ridiculous and misleading terms like this before, I know it's crappy and I hate it but your only choices are to forget it and move on or stop playing and paying.
The reason I asked if people would still be complaining if they were paying monthly (aimed at lifetime members) is that they paid out a large sum that I and others didn't for other exclusives and I thought perhaps if they hadn't you might not feel as strongly about this. Basically that they might be worried their liberated Borg may become available at some point after they've splashed out a fairly sizable chunk of money.
I don't recall my post indicating i was ANGRY at Cryptic.....i was simply pointing out that IF they do infact put everything in the C-Store regardless of how it is initailly obtained then i will simply hold off and get it cheaper later. I see no reason to jump through hoops/spend more money then i have to if i can get the same item simply by waiting a few months.
I don't want the Galaxy X because i think its going to be an uber WTF PWN Mobile, i just want it for my collection
I am using the Galaxy X as my test bed....if it makes it into the C-Store in a few months like all the preorder goodies then that is an indication that EVERYTHING will make it into the C-Store a little while after initial release....and i'm okay with that....just want to be sure thats the case so i can save myself a few bucks
I've already done the work and will shortly have my Galaxy X, i would like it to remain an exclusive.....sadly i am nearly %100 percent certain it will end up in the Cstore for next to nothing within a short period of time.

where in this post am i saying i'm really miffed? i'd like to know
I'm not particularly worked up over the issue, i just want to know if it is fact always going to be the case so i know i can for a fact get ALL the goodies by being patient and pay less in the end

Sorry for the late response to this but here are your answers...
1) I sent out about 7 referals even one to my boss lol. The ones that purchased were all my friends...my boss didnt.. he told me at work that he said that when he played... it was laim....from my boss no less lol..and i did lawl at work when he said it, but thats fine.
2) I recommended it due to I think it is a good game. I dont like cryptics methods, especially how they deal with exclusives. But the game itself is good, and with the new content coming out i think itll get better..but cryptic needs to stop being so greedy. My friends thought it was a good game, knew it just finished coming out of beta and know what a game will be like due to that.
3) I told them about the kick TRIBBLE ship. Also mentioned some of the things they would get as well once adding in the referal key i sent them. Which isnt much but never the less was some good stuff to go with playing togeather.
4) Iam worked up about it due to the fact i managed to go out get some friends to play the game...key word worked for it...nook hooken btw lol, but i did go out and get people to play this game, even my boss no less, and to see it chuck it up on the cstore after all i did...it would be a slap in my face and others who did the work.
5) Would i feel the same if i was paying sub...and i did the work...of course.
Agree, Cryptic, please respond with a binding answer based upon the TOS, so the forum can focus upon ideas for enhancing the game experience.
Similar to governance and politics, it's critically important that you, Cryptic, realize that maintaining and reinforcing loyalty amongst the various special interest groups supercedes any decision that would enhance the game experience for the general subscriber base; increase the general subscriber base loyalty; and increase revenue that would help sustain game development and growth.
To quote the Mirror Universe Spock: That is wise. Were I to invoke logic, however, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.
LoL. I find your post to be funny and seemingly true to life.
I also find it funny that now that so many have acquired the new "galaxy-X ship, they now don't want it to be in the C-store at all.
A lot of these same people are the very same who cried for the pre-order items to be in the c-store becuase it was unfair to withold these items from the playerbase, except now the tune changes when they have something they don't want to share with others.
Cryuptic has already set the precedent by putting pre-order items in the C-store, so I say all special items should eventually make to the c-store - including the Galaxy-X one day.

We don't need your petty demeanor. All i am asking is an answer from Cryptic. If Cryptic sells the Galaxy X and Liberated Borg via C-Store, let them do so.
All I am asking from Cryptic is, if they will make the AGT Cruiser available via C-Store before hundreds of others commit weeks of their times to recruit five people (or a fool and impulsive buyer like me who spent my own wallet), just to find out that they only had to wait for several months to purchase the ship for mere fraction of the price.

We beg you Cryptic. Please give us an answer.
Don't attack me for stating my opinion. I was niether rude or crude to anybody with my first post.
Its is very funny that when some of the lifers and pre-order players didn't want thier exclusive items put into the c-store for everybody to purchase, it was said they were being selfish.
Now that the players who have or are getting the Galaxy-X don't want thier exclusive toy to be shared eventually with the other players, its a vital dilema of extreme importance to get an answer.
Cryptic has already set precedence by allowing some of the lifer/preorder items into the C-store at the disaproval of those players, so why should the Gal-X be any different?
Cryptic can't start showing favortism now thats its too late, so why should it be wrong to put the Gal-X in the Cstore in 2011?

I am not sure who you are referring to but I am one of the unfortunate lifetime subscriber who did not get the liberated borg and I am adamant about having the liberated borg being kept exclusive for the sake of rarity and etc. I am also against Cryptic having any of the pre-order items available so easily through C-Store. I didn't initiate this post to open up a venue about bickering others' hypocrisy. All I am asking is a simple response from Cryptic regarding its stance on whether Galaxy X Cruiser will remain exclusive or it will be available via C-Store.
If you want a guiding principle pending a specific answer, then I recommend you refer to the TOS, specifically the sentence that states Cryptic reserves the right to change its mind.
Your best argument would be to demonstrate to Cryptic, in revenue terms, how engaging in what you are suggesting will increase revenue and improve the overall quality of the game experience.
Yes, you don't have numbers, but there are significant amounts of information online about MMO revenue models so you can still present a case.
Once again, I just wanted to specify that I initiated this thread to receive a response from Cryptic regarding the "exclusivity" of the Galaxy X Cruiser and whether it will remain exclusive indefinitely. I am so sick of arguing that at this rate, I might become bald in several months or so.
I understand that Cryptic has the right to change, but all we ask is a simple answer from Cryptic before hundreds of people waste possibly weeks of their time searching for five referrals to get this ship, only to realize that after few months later, they could've gotten the ship for the fraction of its original "cost."
I believe there was a similar thread regarding the Liberated Borg and Cryptic Dev actually gave an answer stating that the Liberated Borg will remain exclusive only to the Pre-Order Lifetimers.
I am just asking the same thing from Cryptic. Is AGT Galaxy going to stay as a referral only ship or is it going to be available via C-Store?
It looks to me like the real question is if it will be cheaper to buy more copies of the game for yourself or too wait to see what the price will be in the store. Given the Connie was 800 points I would venture to say the G-X would be at least three times that amount with maybe a monthly sale at twice the value price.

Neither.
I don't want the Galaxy X because i think its going to be an uber WTF PWN Mobile, i just want it for my collection
I am using the Galaxy X as my test bed....if it makes it into the C-Store in a few months like all the preorder goodies then that is an indication that EVERYTHING will make it into the C-Store a little while after initial release....and i'm okay with that....just want to be sure thats the case so i can save myself a few bucks
where in this post am i saying i'm really miffed? i'd like to know
I'm not particularly worked up over the issue, i just want to know if it is fact always going to be the case so i know i can for a fact get ALL the goodies by being patient and pay less in the end
Just a simple question for Cryptic.
