My proposal for a simple solution to the C Store Mess

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So, here's my very simple solution to reward those of us that went out and bought special editions with supposedly exclusive content without "denying" anything to people that did not decide to buy the special editions (by choice or by circumstance).

Give out titles. Nobody that didn't purchase special editions will be short any items and will have the exact same opportunities as those of us that shelled out boatloads of money to add to the early success of the game.

For instance, if you had the Borg BO maybe you would have the exclusive Borg Commander", or a joined Trill could have the title "Joined".

That's what I would do. It (in theory) will placate the most financially invested players without depriving other players of anything usable.

Euh.. who says it's a mess? I mean, I bought a CE edition after already having a DDE edition specially for the TNG series uniform and Borg BO, but I seriously don't need even more goodies to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside again.

I already feel like that since I got my caitian char to toy around with. :p

I think the prices are completely fair too, I calculated I saved myself roughly 2000 Cryptic points that I don't have to buy to get all the goodies I wanted anyways.

People should just accept that everybody can access it now and move on. I really don't understand the big deal people are making out of it. In a month or so most people already either forgot about this or stopped caring about it.

I agree. I say this with hesitation but many of the people didn't purchase the collectors edition or the lifetime membership to save money or to collect a nice tinfoil box with the little hologram on it. We bought them purely for the exclusiveness and collecting aspect of getting these special unique ingame items.

I agree that a special accomodation should be given to those who "invested" in these promotions. I agree with the OP or simply, Cryptic can can easily make a variation of these exclusive items and sell it on C-Store. That would keep the exclusivity of the items and still satisfy the needs of others who don't have em.

Or simply, Cryptic can just award those who received the items through the original means, with accolades.

Whatever. Let this be lesson. You should buy things because you enjoy them not to make feel special.

Would this mean that those who bought up every copy and preordered lifer subs to both CO and STO would net the title 'Sucker'? :p

Are you kidding me? I would purchase 3 lifetime membership to gain that awesome title. Seriously though, a little appreciation would be nice from Cryptic. But yea. I don't mind getting the title "Sucker" or "Loser." It's still exclusive. =)

This establishes the precedent of whomever spent the "most" gets the "most" benefits and "most" is subjective and an ambiguous threshold.

The proposal suggests 'my voluntary spending decisions and how I manage my expectations, perceived need and desires is someone else's responsibility.'

Cryptic has made its statement about the issue and negotiating in the forums for compensation has proven futile.

I disagree. If Cryptic is thinking about staying in business for a long time, they are ought to introduce more promotions. From all this experience, it's safe to assume that a lot of good folks here will be adverse to anything with the word "exclusives." What OP is suggesting is just another suggestion for Cryptic that would be helpful in the future. Once again, the promotions with a promise of an "exclusive item" wouldn't be much of a success if we all know that they will be available at C-Store for the fraction of the effort or the cost of acquiring em through the original means.

It has proven futile as far as i can see cryptic are no better than the dodgy car sales man that sells you a nice deal only for it to fall apart ten miles down the road. MMO market is now nothing more than scammer paradise and as i have a lifetime membership with this MMO i believe thoroughly that i will never again purchase from this company as are all my friends who bought the product same time as me and as there was 10 of us we should get the galaxy X we all got the DDE copy and lifetime membership. But clearly cryptic attitude is this once we have your money your not our concern

You feel this game fell apart 10 miles down the road? Is this because of the gameplay? Or because of uniforms on the C-Store?
MMO market is now nothing more than scammer paradise a

I hate to break this to you but ... gold farming and third party selling has made the MMO market a scammer's paradise for over a decade. This is nothing new. People spending real life money for in-game items has been around quite some time. And has been affecting gameplay for ages.

What's the first rule of acqusition?

To your first part i say its a mix of the gameplay and the sheer lack of in game monitoring that cryptic has i have never played a mmo that has such mythical moderators like i say you got more chance of beaming to earth and finding nessy lol, and the game is very repetitive in the extreme only change in most mission is the map itself always the same basic plot go in kill space ships land kill ground troops end mission or more space combat, must take much coding to re-use the same mission plots all that copy and pasting lol

to your second comment i reinforce the point made earlier about the lack of oversite from cryptic there are these things going on in game and all they do is let you silence them where are the moderators you see taking action in other mmo's.

to the third comment i mean no disrespect by this, but this is the real world no sci-fi world of star trek and the customer service of this mmo is beyond a joke. you report a issue no thank you just a snide autobot that says we are aware of the situation. instead of giving rewards to people that bring you money through one maybe two subs give it to them that help you refine and maintain the game.
Not only that the word exclusive is defined in the dictionary as a item related to a set agreement/event, and in britain at least i should imagine the practice of taking money for a item that is meant to be a collectors peace as many items were advertised as is wrong and is bordline causing them a head ache.

i am not however a anti cryptic person from prejudgemental reasoning but from experience of this company that is run like a telesales company that is in business to take money for something they have no intentions of following through on
