C-Store gifting

I think it might boost sales for the C-Store if it were possible to buy items to send to other players as gifts. Many games that offer micro-transactions have implemented this, and I think it would do well in his game. Thoughts? Opinions? /Votes?

That would be a great idea.

I was thinking about running a monthly tournaments. Having c-store items as the top reward to "gift" to the winner would be great (or even just gifting c-store points).

I like that. I like it a lot, it might perk my fleet members up a little.

I was going to have a Bat'leth tournament at Deep Space 9 yesterday but thought energy credits as a reward would be kind of weaksauce.

This is a great idea. More C-Store points get sold, so Cryptic wins. Players can use the gifts as they want, so players win.

How exactly were you going to handle that? As far as I know, there is no duel command.

This is a great idea! I know someone to whom I'd love to send a doughnut.

You get 9 people into a private Ground Map. You then organize in 1 v. 1 matches across the map. There's only enough kill count to do best of 1 (and then match winners). You should safely be under the kill count until the winner is declared - everyone else must observe.

I'm going to look into this myself, great info. Have you considered posting a request for a tournament system? I think that has great possibilities.

Well, there was actually a recent interview set-up where Zinc answered that question:
My next question: is there are talk about putting in a PvP Tournament System or 1 vs. 1 system?

1 vs. 1 is something pretty straight forward that could be added in quite readily but what we find internally is that team is much more fun. You end up having a lot more "tipping point and all-of-a-sudden you lose" in 1 on 1. As the balance of the game changes, that may change as well.

As far as tournaments go (and this will not make it into Season Two), is to get Leaderboards up. To get your daily, weekly, and monthly PvP Leaderboards up there: the number of kills, the number of matches won versus the number of matches competed in, and just a number of things. I think it's not exactly a tournament but it ends up having kind of the same mechanics. Definitely get PvP Leaderboards in the game initially and then expanding that further.

PvE content as well, you know? How many episodes did you do, how fast did you do them, how fast did you get through the tutorial: I think there's a lot of replayability and a lot of cool stuff we can do with Leaderboards, in general.

So look for those kinds of additions shortly after Season 2.

I definitely missed that one. Good stuff. I really hope we can set up these leaderboards as internal records for our fleets as well.

No worries. I transcribed the entire Subspace Radio interview with Zinc from Friday (?).

    You can read it here:

There's also a section on Ship Interiors and UGC PvP Maps.

That was very informative. I like the concept of 'faction agnostic' missions becoming the norm.

It should speed up adding factions - reducing the entry-level number of missions. I'd say 15 or so plus full exploration, diplomacy, stf, shared sectorblocks, etc. should fit the bill nicely in a year or so.

On the one hand I love this idea, on the other hand I'm also worried about security. What if your password gets keylogged? Now they can also buy unlimited cryptic points with your CC and then send those points over to the hackers account.

I wasn't speaking about gifting points specifically. I think it would be better to gift items rather than points, personally. I'm pretty sure Cryptic can track the recipient, and if you don't have one, please do get a card that offers fraud protection.

Well points or items, both are a risk if you can give them away from your account. If you put them in a trade window I'm not sure if it's possible for Cryptic to track it. Mail is probably easier but what you're really looking for is to apply that kinda stuff to an account rather then a character.

Like I said, I like the idea, but I"m also worried about security and theft. When something can be bought and given away on an account this becomes a serious issue. No matter how much fraud protection you have, once the damage is done you have to go through a lot of trouble usually to get it undone again and that's something I'm simply not interested in. :p

I'd like to address that point. I don't think it should be handled in the normal way you would give an item to another player. In cases of this nature it might be preferable to have a 'gift' button next to the purchase button in the c-store. Traditionally this is the way it would be handled, on an account level and not on a character level. I was taken aback at first that it might be interpreted that I meant this to be on a character level. That wouldn't make any sense since many(all?) C-Store items affect the entire account, not just 1 character.
