Not going to happen, the C-Store is the only way Cryptic can get money out of lifetime members since we dont pay subscriptions. After a year we are a net loss for Cryptic thus the C-Store mitigates that loss for lifers that buy stuff. You think they are going to offer a discount ?

    No.

The devs have wasted enough time coding stupid bonus stuff for the lifetimers.

This. From two lifers. More content, more balanced content, more fun content. Much more QC. Not exclusive and/or half-arsed BS anymore.

    This is a bad idea.

I purchased the lifetime for this and CO, because I enjoy both games and I looked at it as a long-term savings.

I play more casually and probably cost Cryptic a lot less in bandwidth than otherwise. When you pay monthly for something,..you get this feeling of obligation to play.. kind of like being at a buffet and you feel you need to get your money's worth, lol.

But we are not entitled to anything outside the original deal. That is just greedy. I am glad to shell out money on the C-store.

In fact, I would say lifers are probably their best C-store customers, because they are not paying $15 a month.

LTS provide a nice upfront cash amount but over long term its a losing proposition for Cryptic so if everyone got LTS = 1 year later Cryptic has no subscribers to fund their game.

Of course Cryptic have done a nice tactic with the C-Store by combining the pay for stuff dynamic of Free MMOs and the subscription mechanic of regular MMOs.

The next stage is pay for expansions...

Something which Cryptic showed they arent above trying in their other MMO... before the public whiplash caused them to mark it as a mistake.

Will they do the same with STO... ?

We will see over the next seasons.

Pay for expansions are a standard practice in MMO's. Blizzard with WOW and even SOE with SWG, before the whole NGE debacle, are prime examples of this. I would not be surprised if the first expansion pack for STO was indeed something that needed to be paid for.

I always thought "sales" and "discounts" encouraged people to buy things, not the other way around...

I am not saying I am for or against this idea, just that if implemented I would be more apt to buy things from the C-store (aka I would spend more money than now)

Of course, I am one among many...

Certainly, some Lifer reward should be offered. Let's have a comparison, shall we?

If I buy a Lifer (which I have), I have spent approx. £220. And I have the game for life, whether I play it or not. Blue forum name, special in-game combadge, Aegima Nebula access. Hardly a thrill a minute.

If I just buy 3 months worth, say (ample time to become an Admiral), that's about £30. Hmm....and although I haven't got any of the lifer bonuses, I would actually be better off as I only spent around £30 and I could then return, should I want to later.

But people have cancelled after 3 months, becuase of lack of end-game content.

A better idea may be to give Subscribers and Lifers a monthly C-Store points allowance.

Something small, so they can't immediately go off and buy the juiciest items. But just enough to entice folk to either wait a few months and save up, or to buy some extra points anyway.

Nope. We got the deal we paid for. If cryptic does give us more it should be because they wanted to, not because we lowered ourselves by begging like some homeless bum on a filthy street corner

I've already bought and spent 1,00 points beyond the CO and STO freebies i had, i'm hardly rich so not having to deal with a sub each month makes it a lot easier to make those purchases. That's the bonus for me right there.

If you get right down to it, a significant reason as much stuff is going into the C-Store as it is is because of Lifetime Subscriptions. LTS is a good deal for us, so long as we hang out at least a year to year and a half. Cryptic gets a big influx all at once for our purchasing it, but once we have it we have it.

But Cryptic needs to keep paying its bills. And that means deriving revenue from its players, whether they're Lifers or not.

The C-Store is a means by which they can do that. No Lifer needs to buy Cryptic Store stuff, but if there's something in there they want, then they pay a small amount and get it. If Cryptic manages to put a steady stream of things people want in the C-Store, that becomes a revenue stream that gets more money out of the Lifetime Subscribers. That it also gets money out of monthly subscribers is (for them) a happy bonus.

I don't have to worry about paying a monthly fee. That's enough. I don't need other inducements, and I think our perks should eventually all show up in Veteran Rewards or the C-Store so other folks can get them too. And when I buy something in the C-Store, I don't worry about the fact that I'm not getting a discount.

On the other hand, if we get senior discounts at participating Denny's Restaurants, I can entirely get behind that.

At FIRST, I had the exact same reaction as many of you. I thought 'god no, this idea is ..." and a lot of bad words flashed through my brain.

Then I calmed down and found a really sneaky, subtle, creative way to justify doing this ...

BECAUSE Lifers are Lifers, they should get this. Since C-Store activity from Lifers would be one of the only ways to get them to keep spending money on the game. Get them a discount and increase their number of sales by a lot and it works out in the end.

I'd recommend it be scaled down to 5%. That way it'd be easier to achieve the sneaky goal of getting them to spend more quicker.

This does have the negative impact of my (and many of yours') gut reaction to the idea.

But if they kept adding new content to the C-Store fast enough, it might get overwhelmed by the buzz anyways, and work out great for everyone.

I'm not convinced there's enough fluff in the C-Store to give this idea a green light. But I can't dismiss it as easily as I initially thought I could.

    Hmmmmm.

The problem is that there is TOO MUCH going into the C-Store. Original ship skins? OK. I can see that. Bridge packs? Stretching it but I can live with it. Playable races? A few are fine when it's an unconventional idea (Pakleds, Klingons and Ferengi come to mind), but core races should be included free of charge (Tellarites come to mind). Emote packs? Get serious. That's a dumb idea, IMHO.

so basicly ur saying that all our perks or bonus we got for w/e package/deal we did should become avia to them? intresting considerng they weer Limited offers or came as a limited package offer.

so what was the point of the orignal offers? basicly a way to jsut get money? i think its wrong to tell all of us who bought things thru a package that wait there gonna get everything for cheaper/free and we jsut took ur money for haveing it first. dosent sound right to me. sounds like a way to scam money from people then later go here have it for free now.
