C-Store Hirogen for Klingon Players!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
(Disclaimer: I would rather everything be available to everyone through challenging gameplay. But as it's more likely to be considered as a C-Store option, I've presented it here.)

We know that when the Romulans become a playable faction, there'll be a high chance that the Hirogen will be a playable race. In the meantime, however, why not make the Hirogen race available to Klingons?

Lore justification:
  • Hirogen are nomadic, and wouldn't stop looking for prey at the Romulan Border. It stands to reason that they would diffuse themselves through the Alpha and Beta quadrants.
  • They would not find allies in the Federation, but it has already been established that some Hirogen admire Klingon culture.
  • Therefore it would be likely that independent Hirogen, distrustful of Romulan politics, would ally themselves with the Klingon Empire.

C-Store justification:
  • Klingons need content. Most C-Store items have been biased towards the Federation, and many players have been crying out for more Klingon character options.
  • The precedent for rival faction races has already been set with Federation Klingons; so Klingon Hirogen won't be unbalancing in the grand scheme.
  • Finally, financing the development of playable Hirogen through C-Store early adoption would be work that wouldn't need doing when the Romulan faction is being developed. This in turn means more resource available for Romulan content.

I think J'mpok would say that they have no honor, just like the Romulans.
But give the Klingons their wanted item they deserve having some C-store content too.

I don't see why not. I mean, I'm sure that there's tons of Klingons in the Federation by now. Besides, Klingons need to see some C-Store love. How long would you think it would take before the Fedrats complain that they don't have Hirogen on their side as well?

I'm all in for this. The Kilngon gameplay does need a lot of love. But I thought the Hirogen were allies with the Romulans?

The NPCs look promising. I noticed they are really waaaay taller than my 1.98 m Lethean, nice uniforms, helms and masks. I still think they don't fit with the Romulans, but have a lot in common with Klingons, so that makes sense. Hirogen have no unified government, so they can still be in the Romulan faction later and it doesn't conflict. Could just be a different swarm or alpha siding with the KDF.

Hirogen uniforms are pretty cool, and just giving them the standard KDF uniforms (or Romulan when it happens) would be a disservice.

Would be nice to allow more race uniform options at the tailor regardless. Orion and Nausicaan outfits would be a good start.

There's not a great deal of honor in hiding from one's opponents like a coward (cloaking device), so I don't think the Klingons have much room to talk, regardless of their obsession with honor.

I think this is a fine idea. It would make development of the Romulans go faster since they'll only need to focus on playable Romulans and Remans and not worry about Hirogen.

Klingons have a view of honor much like the feudal Japanese. It was considered honorable to the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor in the way they did, and surprise attacks were always deemed honorable throughout their history. Different cultures breed different views and perspectives.

I'm all for Klinks getting more Stuff. I'm not sure the Hirogen would fit, though.

Hirogen are locusts. They're an example of what Q was talking about when he said that there were things in the universe that didn't care about the things the Federation stood for. They kill and murder for personal machismo, with utterly no concern except loathing for whomever they leave behind, simply because they can, simply because they have not been crushed by something bigger and badder than them.

Klingons are not focussed on killing, normally. Fighting, yes. The glory and honor of battle. But despite a few barbaric practices -- like eating the heart of a powerful enemy -- they don't engage in wanton slaughter simply because they can, like the Hirogen. If any race in the galaxy needs to be wiped out or at least humbled, it is the Hirogen.

Wow... *wipes froth from mouth* Sorry about that, didn't mean to go on a rantpage. ^_^ Guess something about them really pushes a button with me. If you like the Hirogen, please don't take this as an attack on you personally; I know that rant was just a bit too much. ^_^

Okay, in short: Maybe the Hirogen can find some common ground with the Klinks, though their alliance with the Roms would probably preclude them working with the Klinks. Chances are the Hirogen will be in the Rom faction. And while it wouldn't be horrible if they were introduced in the C-Store, I'd MUCH MUCH rather they NOT be in the C-Store. I know we're getting content in Season 2, but we really very badly need more content available to players across the board, not sold in the C-Store.

If the Hirogen are added to any group it'll be the Romulans since it's already been stated that they made a deal with Empress Sela in order to be allowed to hunt in Romulan territory. I also agree that the Klingons would probably see the Hirogen as dishonorable in the same way they see Romulans and wouldn't be willing to allow them in the KDF

    How can I put this......

    HELL NO!!!!! :p

Besides, the Hirogen are already Romulan allies, it wouldn't fit with the game's lore, sorry man.

Well, I fully agree with this for playable races. Since they actually have gameplay-affecting stats and all. *sigh*

One of my 2 internet nicknames is Alpha Hirogen and I've been playing KDF a lot the last month, for the first time since launch and loving it. Nuff said, bring it on!

(and please gives us those bigass hirogen handcannons and armor, with customizable paint indicating the number of kills:))

    how about
C-store Reman KDF playable species(male only)
    Traits -Ground- Covert +10 stealth;
    -Telepathic - +10 Perception, +1.5% Expose Chance and +1 sec Expose Duration;
    Traits-Space-Elusive +10 Defense
    +1 more Trait
    or
C-store Breen KDF playable species (male or Female)
Traits-Ground-Superior Cryonic Visor Eyebeam-(check the passives on the Breen BO for details)
Soldier - +5% all Energy Damage Bonus Strength, +10% Critical Severity
    +2 others
But whatever it is, I'm all for a wider variety of playable species, KDF-side, that's what I'd like to see.

I suggested the Hirogen as a C-store race almost a year ago. Everyone who posted said hell no. I noticed that most of the were Klingon Purists. I am glad to see that the mood has slowly been changing and practicallity is coming to the fore front. If the KDF side is to be a fully fleshed out faction, some folks will have to swallow their pride and accept that barring completely new and unique races being added, the only way the KDF will be more viable is by allowing more cannon races to be added.

UFP has exactly TWICE as many options for player species than the KDF (14 to 7) and 3 of them are shared-Klingons(UFP klings get the same traits as the KDF klingons), "Alien", & Joined Trill.

That's 4 player species Unique to the KDF, Klingons aren't even one of them, 3 of which are male-only.

A lot of work has been done to help make the KDF a viable faction choice, with the new ships (awesome designs, btw!) and the Featured Episodes and Foundry missions. But a lot of people still believe a lot more could be done to legitimize the faction, and more Races would definitely be appreciated. :)
