Man, my referral efforts aren't doing good. Craigslist time?

I've been hawking and dealing with WOW, Star Trek fans, and MMO lovers at my call center and have yet to entice anyone with promises of help or free loot by using my referral code for STO. What starategies do you guys have when everyone you know has already heard of or tried in some way STO in the past, and have no interest in trying the update version or helping me out? :(

What tactics did you use to positively upsell the game? Especially if you are dealing with those that already play MMOs or who are only playing casual games on Facebook or pre-loaded PC social games.

I can't even get people to accept an email referral and I don't want to waste any.

I'm offering an Energy Credit bonus, and I belong to a strong , casual, and friendly fleet to support and welcome new players. I love the game so I don't feel I have to upsell it.

Advertising, virtual door to door salesmanship and bribery is it?
And people wonder why I want to organise a boycott against anyone with a Galaxy X.

i agree "buying" referrals by offering ingame credits or items is too much,
but you shouldnt treat any with galaxy-x later as that type of players...

    some simply REALLY invited friends
and some simply like the game and want let others test it
and help them finding into the gameplay...

the main problem is: why would any gamer use my friend code if he just can load the demo instead. content is the same.

    Because of the in-game bonuses.

Still, we could use a hand from Cryptic here, if they would mention the referral bonuses to anyone downloading the demo, so they are reminded we are looking for them to sign through us.

Edit - hmm... I wonder... I have an idea.

REally now. Cryptic are expecting you to advertise and sell the game for them. Why would they handle the emotional blackmail aspect of it for you?

I bet the Galaxy X will be on the c-store before you know it , Cryptic would make a fortune overnight lol

I doubt it. They need to do a hand count here and see how many people are actually throwing a tantrum, get some perspective.

If you banned maybe 5 people here today, this issue would fall off the map in less than a week and we'd all be discussing the latest patch on tribble and what rewards we'd like to see for accolades. This place gets rather serene when you learn to use the forum ignore feature.

Heck, that plus a final word from a gold-name on the CO LTS MU unis would turn this forum about completely...

    1 purchase of a C-store Galaxy X wouldn't offset the influx of cash from recruitment. STO is going for $20 new x 5 = 100, subs by month $15 (right?) x 5 = $75, so $175 total if you recruit 5.

Only way Cryptic would put it in the C-Store anytime soon is if the referral program was a complete flop. If that is the case maybe they can do the warp to friend feature as well. And no not as a C-store power, as a regular ability like the transwarp.

I'm actually thinking they should have done Sub+2 months. $175 really isnt too much in the grand scheme of things. There may be some merit to the 1 person screaming that the only people who will have this are buying the subs themselves.

That isn't wholly accurate though some may fit that bill. I have sent out 5 invites to friends who seem now to be too apprehensive of STO to even try some free play. Will the bad publicity milling around and referrals would be either self bought, bribed, or hard earned. I guess time will tell.

You're right, it isnt accurate, and a highly subjective take... sorry, this topic gets me grumpy. I may have been trollbaiting there...

That said, I should be able to scratch that together in less than a week of moonlighting freelance work. Then again, I already do that, and every dime goes towards existing debts and car repairs so, yeah. 6 years ago, maybe.

The bad bit is of course as it's been brought up, no retro active credit. I recruited 1 whom purchased a life time sub and 3 using the buddy pass keys that came with my collector's edition box all of whom went monthly subs. By all rights I already recruited 4 players.

Yet more evidence that is a completely shameless stunt from Cryptic.

If it was just 1 - 2 referal for the item like other MMOs employ I suspect alot of people would be there. Oh no, Cryptic has to do it their way by requiring FIVE referrals that are not retro-active.

    BRILLIANT IDEA !

Its not like fans of ST will probably have been following and in CB / OB and gotten their friends in at that point. The populace left is either

    A) The ST fans that dont care
    B) The People that play OTHER MMOs and thus wont commit
    C) The People that just dont like ST / Games.

If you banned maybe 5 people here today, this issue would fall off the map in less than a week and we'd all be discussing the latest patch on tribble and what rewards we'd like to see for accolades. This place gets rather serene when you learn to use the forum ignore feature.

Cryptic ask for feedback but apparantly if you dont agree with what they do you should be banned eh ?

I'm sure THAT will create healthy environment for feedback or gameplay:

" Like it or get banned "

Oh right, it has to be CONSTRUCTIVE feedback.

Like offering them alternative ways to include the Galaxy X or augment the promotion to be rewarding to ALL. Like the C-Store which would still earn them money... oh wait no. Making more money isnt constructive for Cryptic or STO is it ?

No, its far more constructive to run with this promotion which has annoyed members of your community and ban the ones that express that annoyance.

there is a reward for one referral, the Holographic Bridge Officer...

if you reach 5 referrals you get galaxy as a further reward...

moreover you get cryptic points for ANY referrral...

    cant see your point tho...

Um, guys? It's a single ship skin. Not only is it a single ship skin, but it's just a Galaxy class with an extra nacelle. It has no super-awesome, super-cool abilities. I'm having trouble seeing what's so awful about this little bonus being kicked in for people who manage to provide Cryptic with $175. For all the work that goes into gathering these referrals, it's kind of a tame bonus.

Did you read the thread and responses before you typed that? We are saying the bonus is not really worth the work especially as none of the previous referrals are retroactive. I used all 5 of my referrals and not one have even tried the demo due to bad publicity from both reviews and the 4 friends I have already recruited prior to the referral program.

Its NOT just a ship skin but if you bothered to actually check you would know that.

It will have a cloak and custom mult-hit cannon. Additionally this new ship will be amoung the first of the new generation of ships coming out... the equivelent for the masses comes out.... sometime later.

Introducing a new generation of ship with new and custom ablities with no alternative counters ingame... Hmmm... what would that come under...
