Jeez, trying to find info on this convoluted site is near to impossible.
Frack, even the info on buddy/referral keys is a copy-pasta from Champions.
Anyhoo, enough whining and back to my question and to the fine knowledgeable people of STO.
After downloading the "Demo", do I need to buy an actual gamebox and enter its key to activate the game?
A nice 60 days code would cost me a full 10 less than the cheapest box, which only gives me 30 free days anyway.
The FAQs I eventually found on this are too general and outdated. No mention of Gametime codes at all.
BTW, are there separate US/Euro servers? Or do codes(gametime or box) from everywhere work?
Yes you need a retail copy of the game. The order is Referral > Retail > Sub. The gamecard can count for the sub.
Also there is only one high capacity server for this game. You get to play with Star trek Fans from all over the world. Which could be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view. XD

See CRYPTIC? Why is it so hard to add this simple sentence to the FAQ?!
Thanks VERY much for this info. You might have saved me about 50!
After the "DEMO", reading through the fora and experiencing this site, I´m very wary of giving them money for such an unpolished game. Maybe in a half a year or so. If they are still around.
About the only link I didn´t click as "Subscribing" wasn´t my problem but BUYING.
The link is called Abonement in the german version, probably the reason why I had that brainfart.
