Given how many of us are SOL on referring 5 friends to sign up for sto the galaxy X is pretty much unachievable. (Especially for those of us that already got our friends to sign up in the months before this Offer" was available.)
Some of us already "Ref'd" friends and co-workers before this and what to we get a reward? Oh right, not even a "thank you" from Cryptic, but now they're bleeding subs worse then SWG did back int he day they decide to offer up the one incentive they know tons of people have been requesting in the hopes of garning more Subs at the expense of upsetting the rest of us.
So rather then antagonize those of us still loyal to STO, why not just give out the Galaxy X as the 100 day veteran reward and give people 1 free month of game time for every friend they refer? It's still a sweet deal for players that can recruit their pals, and the rest of us don't take the shaft.
It also gives players a good incentive to stay subbed for at least 100 days so they too can get the ship.

oh look, another unsubstantiated 'bleeding subs' post.. how new and interesting!
The Galaxy-X needs to stay a RAF reward, it's not impossible to recruit 5 people, it's a ship from a different timeline, there is no reason for it to be used by 'everyone'.
free time is useless to us lifers why is it in these mmos there are so many whiners just get out there socialize and recruit 5 people they dont have to be friends and family i ran into a guy yesterday that i gave a buddy key awhile ago at work and he let me refer him just talk to people it isnt that hard

Why is there always at least one person that thinks that because it was easy for them it will be the same for everyone else? I'm not going to speak for everyone else, only myself, but when I see suggestions like this it really feels like you're questioning the ability of people to make friends and that they must live in a cave (with electricity, internet etc) or they would be able to do this with no problem. As large as Star Trek might be in the sci-fi world it is not big outside of that.
Sure, a lot of people will know OF Star Trek, some may even have watched a film or two, perhaps even some episodes. Does that mean they want to shell out £30 / $40 (? not sure on US price) and then subscribe for at least a month? No. This also ignores the fact that a fair amount of people have already referred friends and will get no credit for that currently. If they got that sort of treatment I'd be opening myself up for more of the same later down the line.
The program's been launched. Already. It's kind of too late. There are people already getting referrals.
This ship has sailed. I really don't understand how people can think certain things can be undone after they are done.
You mean like the death pe... sorry, 'injury system' applying to Normal difficulty wasn't going to be changed? I'd say that was a bigger risk as it could've had a large proportion of players up in arms if it happened. It is no more difficult to change than the 'injury system' was at the time. If they change it what does it hurt them? Nothing. If it was a vet. reward it would be the incentive to keep subscribing for some, if it was a C-Store item it would give them income that would always be there for new players too.
I don't think it's going to be particularly overpowered with the cannon taking the place of at least one weapon so the only potential down side would be seeing a lot of them. Even with only three separate ship designs per class, per tier, I rarely see two ships that look the same in the same place. I really expected to see a lot of Sovereigns and I did for a few days but now there are a lot of small variations and some even flying the (in my opinion) ugly Imperial assault cruiser design.

Yeah, sorry, not to put you down or anything but:
NO
It's not happening, I am sure there are many others like myself who will exceed 5 upgrades this week or already have. After that, if you convinced someone to buy the game, getting them to sub for a month isn't so bad. I know I plan to make sure I have at least double the upgrades required so I don't need to help anyone pay for a 1 month after.
Even if I do, I plan to have my Galaxy-X, I worked hard for referrals (About as hard as I'd have worked at a sales job) and selling a product to someone when they could only try, arguably one of the worst parts is no easy sell.
The Galaxy X is perfect where it is, a hard to obtain reward available to everyone.

The point the op is making is for people who have already used up all their referral so now they can not refer anyone in order to get the Galaxy X
If you cant get 5 people or another 5 people to get the item then your only option is to fork out the cash for 5 games and 5,1st month subs. If you dont want to do that then tuff luck.
It has already been stated that this ship will indeed be exclusive to the referal program. For how long who noes, it may stay as the perminant referal 5 people reward item. You can get it, it is possible. So stop the ohhh sob stories on why you cant get it because you soooo want it.

^ What he said !
At first I kinda agreed and was ****ed that I had to mess around to get one, but now that I did get one id hate to see Cryptic slap me in face by adding this to the C-Store.
The Galaxy X as a ship is kinda useless, but its a symbol now, and we earned it !

For lifers $15 worth of c-store points per friend referred would work pretty effectively I'd imagine

That never made it live.
