...that racial/ethnic/species origins determine political allegiances does seem to fit canon in some ways... all Trills must support the Trill Volk and the Trill Volk are allied to the Federation rather than some more abstract political view point... well at least for everyone other than that Trotskyist Internationalist collectivist wet dream the Federation of course
(Sigh)
No, what subtext that you personally read into the Federation/Star Trek is your opinion/belief. What I'm stating is that having the gameplay of a game that is a byproduct of a show actually follow the show, in design and mechanics, makes sense.
I pointed out the lack of a canon connection; I did not say that there would not have been or could not have been a Trill (or otherwise) sympathetic to the KDF (or otherwise). That still doesn't mean that it would make sense to see KDF ships piloted by Trill captains flying everywhere.
Would the Klingons (from the show) be accepting of the Trill and want them on their bridge? Would the KDF (in the show) allow Trill (or any other race) to advance their ranks enough to pilot a Bird of Prey?
From the ST content that I've seen, it's clear that the Federation is inclusive, welcoming different races to serve on it's ships and climb it's ranks. I don't seem to recall the KDF returning the favor to non-Klingons.
If the Trill (or any other race, for that matter) were as cosmically cosmopolitan in their political beliefs, alliances, etc as you suggest, one would think there would be footage, storylines, um, canon, etc, supporting this idea.
Okay, we'll set up a quota system. For every 3000 honorable KDF Klingon species captains there can be 1 traitorous dishonerable Federation faction Klingon species captain.
For every 3000 Fed Joined Trill there can be 1 KDF.
How does that sound? Cryptic can have a C-store auction for the quotas and make a killing.
Oh wait, the cat's out of the bag!.
The cat that's out of the bag is Klingons being unlockable for the Federation. At this point in the ST story, the Federation and the KDF are at war. It really doesn't make sense, but it can be reasoned from major storylines of multiple ST series rationally. There is substansial basis for us to see Klingons in a Starfleet uniform. Again, considering the whole "at war" thing, I said before I don't agree with Klingons being unlockable for the Federation at this time of war.
The logic then becomes - what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
That reasoning suggests that because Klingons are Federation-unlockable via canon storylines, that Trill (or any other race) should be unlockable for no reason at all, which is ill-logical. (pun intended)
I don't have a problem with unlocking special additional races from the C-Store, however I would rather see faction-specific C-stores with unlockable features exclusive to either the KDF or Federation.
Cryptic promised Klingons would get Joined Trill as part of the Digital Delux purchase - what don't you get about that?
I suggested later in the thread that instead of promising Joined Trill as a rubber-stamp response to the Klingons crying out for more content (and rightfully so) per the Deluxe download, why not have promised another naturally KDF-aligned race with the same Trill specs to introduce that would be exclusive to the KDF, thus adding new content to the KDF, rather than sloppy seconds?
And my new Klingon faction Sci officer is... a joined trill... ship name... IKS Nonconformist
Non-conformist?!?!
Are you kidding me?
A non-conformist would want to be different from the Federation, demanding unique KDF content. Firing up that Joined Trill makes you just like a Fed.
I'd imagine it's mostly for fairness for people who have DD version of the game, but truthfully,Trill are very diplomatic people, so it probably wouldn't be unheard of to have a Trill in the KDF.
But yeah, I'd say it definitely leans towards a business decision over canon. Which honestly, who cares? It doesn't affect anyone except the people who wanted to serve the Empire as their Joined Trill!
It doesn't matter because not everyone can play them? Umm, take a look how many Joined Trill and Liberated Borg you see on Fed side. They are far more common than other species. I barely see anything but humans, vulcans, trill and borg.
I predict PvP matches: 5 Joined Trill (Fed) vs 5 Joined Trill (KDF)
Firing up that Joined Trill makes you just like a Fed.
And that would be because joining the KDF is just like the Federation and presumably joined trills always vote their race/species rather than their opinions?

Now back to your debate...

Well, at least there is the S1.1 Update itself to look forward to. Thank you.

And I won't be anywhere near them.
Its simple, both offer regeneration and skills that enhance a starship. Then again some races on both sides have access to the same thing.
And joining the KDF is not different to being in Starfleet?
Ok....
